Popular Post Azatol
Ok this is my own running tip from my own personal limited experience and novice physical fitness knowledge. If you lend any credability to me, you're gambling. <G> I found at the start that I was struggling. I'd look at my fitbit ( its a watch too ) and check the time constantly. OMG OMG OMG just 2 more minutes and I can walk again. My body knew it was about to get a rest and it fought me hard to convince me it was out of gas. It's not!! Your body will sabotage you every single time it can. You're brain is lazy. You must fool it!!! Stop looking at the time. Run until you're told to walk. Your body doesn't know when it's going to rest and can't poop you out in advance. Just a nice comfortable pace and get lost in the music. It really really works for me. I think you should try it and tell me your fidnings. Keep your body guessing. ath3na, Foxyroadie, Ruth and 7 others

Timb113
Azatol, I agree 100 percent! I've also found that varying my route so that my mind doesn't know how much farther i have to go to hit the next mile marker is good as well. I just run until my phone tells me I've finished that section. TheRoseWithin~Shannon and Azatol
Healthylife4me
I also agree. Put it away and forget it. Think about other things. Like the outdoors around you. Gardens, lights, anything. I like to make my mental notes of things I need to pick up at the grocery store, chores or think of a movie or book I may have just watched/ read. Lol, anything to get my mind off of how much time is left!! TheRoseWithin~Shannon and KellyAnn
kittycat423
Completely agree! I'm on a treadmill bc my lungs can't take running in the cold... So music is my main source to aimlessly start thinking about everything other than running... I find if I throw my towel over the treadmill display, the run goes by a lot quicker! Just started couch to 5k after a long break after having my daughter! Jo4applerose, Azatol and Lilvick83
cendorly
I was doing this today, checking my phone ever few seconds seeing how long I had left until I walked. I'll have to try leaving my phone in my pocket next time. Healthylife4me, Timb113 and TheRoseWithin~Shannon
Augy
Sounds like a Great Tip. I'm doing my Week-1/Day-1 routine tomorrow. I think I'll give this a try! Excited to get started! qbu427
Definitely a good tip! I have definitely realized that the body achieves what the mind believes. Azatol
KyCon98
I always catch myself doing this too. I'll have to try the towel over the treadmill idea... that may help me out a lot! KellyAnn
Dognurse32
TOTALLY Agree! Coverup the treadmill display. I run with music and I also time my gym visits with a TV show that I enjoy watching. The gym I go to has individual TV's at each treadmill, so I can watch whatever. I turn on the closed caption and time goes by faster when I have music and the show distracting me KellyAnn
KellyAnn
It drives me nuts to keep looking. LOL. I will do T25 workouts some days and i hate watching the timer they put up on there. I might stick a piece of masking tape on that section. HA HA!!! Georgia M and Anne Lang
Sugabear
You are correct! On the treadmill I have to turn it over so I can't see how much longer. Watch the TV iPad or even my feet and get through it...
Clairey-Lou39
I turned my phone over in its case today so I couldn't see the screen- so much easier as I wasn't constantly clock watching! Wendell
Lucyf415
I use spotlify when I am running and they have this really cool thing where you can choose a genre of music & they pick music for you depending on your pace of running! It's brilliant for running because the beat matches your pace and you never know what song is coming next makes running much more fun & enjoyable and you don't have to be constantly changing tracks to get one for your pace. Jensmile99
This is a great tip. I'm so guilty of looking at the I have left which does cause me lose focus on the rhythm of my running. Jensmile99
Mlm1526
I am in complete agreement with this and would advise anyone to follow this advice! Running is very much a mind over matter, the more obstacles you put in your way, the harder it will be. I would add that instead of wondering about the time, replace those thoughts with positive mantras...."you're doing it!" "You got this!" " I will not give up!" saejosh
Exercise like most things that cause a little pain or difficulty are mental. It's a mind game. We can achieve so much more than our minds allow.

torus_ot
I guess I am odd one here... I am numbers person, on the treadmill I am very busy with questions: how many steps I am doing per minute; how much time I took to get 0.5 mile; what part of mile I can finish with 1000 steps; etc... But you are right, the time is running much slower when you watching it, PS. Just finish week 6 of the C25K with ease, but my pace is slow for now. I want to be sure that I can finish the course. After that I will work on the speed for a month or two.
djplong
I found myself constantly checking my phone - certainly more than I would like. I was especially guilty when I was upping the amount of running time. What worked for me might seem counter-intuitive. I bought an Apple Watch last November. I wanted to be able to start and stop sessions more easily, especially since I was going to be in races starting in January. Well, now that I've run the long runs, I find myself checking the watch less. Of course, I have Runkeeper (and, before that I had MapMyRun+) giving me updates in my ear every half-mile. Those updates seem to satisfy most of my "need to know" when I've been doing my 4/1 intervals these past couple of weeks (4:00 jogging, 1:00 walking). When I was on the longer sessions or in a race, I didn't much care about checking the watch at all because of the half-mile updates. But I *will* say that, if it wasn't for the music, I don't know that I could do this. Even now, when a song comes on, I might mentally think (if it's a long one) "Ok, this one is long enough that I'll get the break AND the whole next jog interval in it" or something like that. Just the way my brain works, I guess. dhagen02
dhagen02
I wear a fitbit but I do not check it for time, I only check for heartrate. I get too into my music to worry about time so the app or timer does not bother me luckily.
