If you lend any credability to me, you're gambling. <G> I found at the start that I was struggling. I'd look at my fitbit ( its a watch too ) and check the time constantly. OMG OMG OMG just 2 more minutes and I can walk again. My body knew it was about to get a rest and it fought me hard to convince me it was out of gas. It's not!! Your body will sabotage you every single time it can. You're brain is lazy. You must fool it!!! Stop looking at the time. Run until you're told to walk. Your body doesn't know when it's going to rest and can't poop you out in advance. Just a nice comfortable pace and get lost in the music. It really really works for me. I've also found that varying my route so that my mind doesn't know how much farther i have to go to hit the next mile marker is good as well. Healthylife4me Posted January 6, 2015 Report Share Posted January 6, 2015 I also agree. Put it away and forget it. Think about other things. Like the outdoors around you. Gardens, lights, anything. I like to make my mental notes of things I need to pick up at the grocery store, chores or think of a movie or book I may have just watched/ read. So music is my main source to aimlessly start thinking about everything other than running... I find if I throw my towel over the treadmill display, the run goes by a lot quicker! I run with music and I also time my gym visits with a TV show that I enjoy watching. The gym I go to has individual TV's at each treadmill, so I can watch whatever. Lucyf415 Posted August 4, 2015 Report Share Posted August 4, 2015 I use spotlify when I am running and they have this really cool thing where you can choose a genre of music & they pick music for you depending on your pace of running! It's brilliant for running because the beat matches your pace and you never know what song is coming next makes running much more fun & enjoyable and you don't have to be constantly changing tracks to get one for your pace. Running is very much a mind over matter, the more obstacles you put in your way, the harder it will be. I would add that instead of wondering about the time, replace those thoughts with positive mantras...."you're doing it!" "You got this!" " I will not give up!" I am numbers person, on the treadmill I am very busy with questions: how many steps I am doing per minute; how much time I took to get 0.5 mile; what part of mile I can finish with 1000 steps; etc... But you are right, the time is running much slower when you watching it, PS. Just finish week 6 of the C25K with ease, but my pace is slow for now. I want to be sure that I can finish the course. djplong Posted January 30, 2016 Report Share Posted January 30, 2016 I found myself constantly checking my phone - certainly more than I would like. I was especially guilty when I was upping the amount of running time. What worked for me might seem counter-intuitive. I bought an Apple Watch last November. I wanted to be able to start and stop sessions more easily, especially since I was going to be in races starting in January. Well, now that I've run the long runs, I find myself checking the watch less. Of course, I have Runkeeper (and, before that I had MapMyRun+) giving me updates in my ear every half-mile. Those updates seem to satisfy most of my "need to know" when I've been doing my 4/1 intervals these past couple of weeks (4:00 jogging, 1:00 walking). When I was on the longer sessions or in a race, I didn't much care about checking the watch at all because of the half-mile updates. But I *will* say that, if it wasn't for the music, I don't know that I could do this. Even now, when a song comes on, I might mentally think (if it's a long one) "Ok, this one is long enough that I'll get the break AND the whole next jog interval in it" or something like that.
