Primal transportation for the desk jockey
TheRoseWithin~Shannon replied to Azatol's topic in Accountability Check-in
Awesome Azatol! From 1 minute runs/2 minute walks in W1D1, to running 2 miles in W7D1 ... I'd say that's a hella good FIGHT! Right on! I'm curious if you have noticed any difference in mindset in regards to where you were when you began W1D1 and where you are today having achieved W7D1? -
Ditto! Welcome and I also look forward to hearing your continued progress!
-
"The question isn't can you? It's will you?" I can't find who originally said this. Does anyone know?

Progress interrupted
TheRoseWithin~Shannon replied to Redrunner's topic in Progress & Success Stories
I concur with Trish, Redrunner, look what you have achieved so far - one minute counts as a success ... you ran 20 minutes - in spite of the pain, sweat, cold, difficulty in breathing, distance and speed! Your energy exerted will continue to expand your lungs and strengthen your body in the broadest of senses (I hope your hip especially). Good on you! Focus on the 'great feelings' you have afterwards! Let those feelings carry you on! If I may encourage you - celebrate each and every minute you continue to achieve - inside or outside, walking or running with absolute passion. No one is telling you that you have to run a 5k in 8weeks - not even the C25K app does that - it is a tool only; a guideline. USE IT! "Progress not perfection". Each time you experience a discouraged state of mind, do your best to practice having the exact opposite thought (less self-judgment, more self-discernment). And by all means, please jump in here and let us know. I for one look forward to hearing how everything you have invested ends up transforming your body, heart, mind and spirit - in spite of and because of a debilitating accident. Redrunner, this may or may not be helpful, it is the same kind of encouragement I give to myself, hope it helps! With you from afar, yet near in heart! You can do this! One step; one breath at a time. -
You're welcome Shaa! And to be clear, that was shared experience only. It'd be mighty cool to confidently offer more knowledgeable advice! Hey, have any of you ever run so hard that you ended up non-stop coughing for minutes afterwards ... coughs that would slowly wane 1-2 hours later?

That's a great point Trish, the care of our bodies before, during and after - super important no matter what season. I'm all for running in comfort and I enjoy hearing what others use or do not use. I agree in regards to advertising any kind of business here -- that turns me off. I am so glad Zenlabs frowns upon that. I could see how an individual would be tempted to use just such a forum for personal gain. Speaking of coconut oil - I have used no other moisturizer other than virgin coconut oil for the last three years. I use it for everything, skin, hair, cooking and oil pulling. Awe-mazing!

Gnik, congratulations on completing day3!!! You know your body best, so keep listening! In spite of and because of being horribly out of breath, I am happy to hear that you are staying with this! Right on! Overtime, your body will adjust to these workouts, (C25K was created specifically to ease us into a running program). One day, one step adds up quickly ... hang in there! I'm in week 2 and noticed that w2d1 was easier than w1d1! I am cheering you on from Washington State, and there are MANY MANY cheering you on here within these forums. I look forward to hearing how you progress! Cheers! ps. I'm 51 too!

Yep! I have a tendency to push myself TOO hard, a.k.a not listening to my body properly. Nausea turns to gagging or dry-heaving. Non stop dry-heaving = stopping. I don't want to stop, so instead I simply slow down. I used to work out at 4:30 am six days a week, (alternate HIIT and weights) - I received quite a bit of ribbing, along with tips from the morning crew - it was humorous and embarrassing. It took a bit of time, yet I finally learned when to back off, vs. over exert, AND when to eek out that last minute of running or weight rep vs. stopping or slowing down too soon. Yesterday, I too experienced nausea. I knew how much I could take so I pressed through on the second to last run. On the last run I knew I had to slow down, and I did.

Accountability Buddies!!
TheRoseWithin~Shannon replied to TheRoseWithin~Shannon's topic in Accountability Check-in
"It is a personal choice, so only if you choose. I don't and do not miss it at all." I wanted to clarify. I was never into counting calories, I tried it, yet when I started Body for Life (2003) ... I stopped and have never counted a calorie since - I notice calories, yet I do not count them. I loved and still love BFL's approach - palm and fist portions/5-6 light meals a day. Easy peasy, along with being FUN! As a side note, I dropped from 26.6% body fat down to 13.3% body fat at the end of 12 weeks. Today, I have yet to set nutrition and water goals, yet I will definitely return to the above approach as it worked so well for me. -

Hi Diane! It is a personal choice, so only if you choose. I don't and do not miss it all. Speaking of auto pilot ... it's great gettin' back into the drivers seat again isn't it!! Taking control in life-affirming ways! -
Right on Anthony!! Imagine a great big HIGH FIVE from Tri Cities WA! I am looking forward to getting to know you AND hearing how you progress!! Cheers!

Hey Jessie!! I am so thrilled to hear you remained committed to working out today - in spite of and because of the fact that your friend was not able to go. WAY TO GO!!! I bet you felt great! Middle age and out of shape
TheRoseWithin~Shannon replied to Tanzenite's topic in Introduce Yourself
Yep! What Trish shared!! Welcome Tanzenite! And good job! I can't wait to run 3 miles! Looking forward to learning more about you and hearing about your progress! Cheers! -
Emmalee: I concur! It is a GREAT feeling to begin! And no matter how slow or fast, if I am out there, that is a success! You will do better each day ... congrats on your first day!!! Kwilcox: Right on!!! Congrats on your first day! Great tip! I enjoy listening to music or audio too - it passes the time. I have Pandora, and only discovered iHeartRadio yesterday. Handy, handy! Cheers! Lea: Many thoughts and prayers of healing I will send your way. I cannot begin to imagine what it would feel like to receive a diagnosis of cancer. I am wishing many more continued days of what feels normal for you - continued healing, uplifting thougts and feelings that motivate and inspire you, music, books and movies that titillate your senses, friends and family that make you giggle and belly laugh, and of course many more entertaining walks with your dog!! I look forward to hearing how your walk/runs go and I hope to hear how cancer becomes a memory of triumph. With you heart and soul! Please keep us posted, (try Accountability 2015 forums for phenomanal support, inspiration, tips etc!!!! A great way to track your progress from week to week). And HAPPY NEW YEAR siSTAR! Cheerfully, ~Shannon ps. My grandmother and mother are both cancer survivors. <3 Naeemah: Whoohoooo!!! Right on! CHEERS! So cool! So many active peeps! Welcome to Zenlabs/C25k Naeemah! Looking forward to hearing about your second run!! Tigga: Right on, and GREAT ATTITUDE! You were out there! That is a success regardless of how slow or fast AND regardless of completing 30 minutes! It adds up! Tina: How to get marathon ready? I would respond very simply by sharing one of my personal self-reminders: One step at a time, one walk at a time, one run at a time. Days add up, minutes and pace too ... eventually a 5k, 10k, half and full marathons become attainable. As a side note, some of us are super fit before we begin and others are not so fit, (I hibernated for nearly 10 years and only recently began exercising again). Regardless of how thin or thick we are; how fit or unfit we are .... each step brings us closer to our goals of health and vitality as we stay the course. I hope to hear how you continue to do! Cheers!! Cassiecat: *hugs*... not to be redundant, yet wishing the same for you (see message to Lea) ... you are in my thoughts and prayers! Cheering with you from afar, yet near in heart! Congrats on Week 2!!!! Sharon, Brenda, Regina, Caprice, MillerH, Dareburton, Amyschintler: WayHAY to go!! Beginning is so dang fun (and interesting ) - even if a bit painful the next day. LOL CHEERS! Keep at it!! Hi Hermia! Thank you so much for the encouragement/luck and congrats on beginning!! Can't wait to hear more!! Hope you keep us posted!!
