  1. I concur with Trish, Redrunner, look what you have achieved so far - one minute counts as a success ... you ran 20 minutes - in spite of the pain, sweat, cold, difficulty in breathing, distance and speed! Your energy exerted will continue to expand your lungs and strengthen your body in the broadest of senses (I hope your hip especially). Good on you! Focus on the 'great feelings' you have afterwards! Let those feelings carry you on! If I may encourage you - celebrate each and every minute you continue to achieve - inside or outside, walking or running with absolute passion. No one is telling you that you have to run a 5k in 8weeks - not even the C25K app does that - it is a tool only; a guideline. USE IT! "Progress not perfection". Each time you experience a discouraged state of mind, do your best to practice having the exact opposite thought (less self-judgment, more self-discernment). And by all means, please jump in here and let us know. I for one look forward to hearing how everything you have invested ends up transforming your body, heart, mind and spirit - in spite of and because of a debilitating accident. Redrunner, this may or may not be helpful, it is the same kind of encouragement I give to myself, hope it helps! With you from afar, yet near in heart! You can do this! One step; one breath at a time.
  2. You're welcome Shaa! And to be clear, that was shared experience only. It'd be mighty cool to confidently offer more knowledgeable advice! Hey, have any of you ever run so hard that you ended up non-stop coughing for minutes afterwards ... coughs that would slowly wane 1-2 hours later?
  3. Gnik, congratulations on completing day3!!! You know your body best, so keep listening! In spite of and because of being horribly out of breath, I am happy to hear that you are staying with this! Right on! Overtime, your body will adjust to these workouts, (C25K was created specifically to ease us into a running program). One day, one step adds up quickly ... hang in there! I'm in week 2 and noticed that w2d1 was easier than w1d1! I am cheering you on from Washington State, and there are MANY MANY cheering you on here within these forums. I look forward to hearing how you progress! Cheers! ps. I'm 51 too!
  4. Yep! I have a tendency to push myself TOO hard, a.k.a not listening to my body properly. Nausea turns to gagging or dry-heaving. Non stop dry-heaving = stopping. I don't want to stop, so instead I simply slow down. I used to work out at 4:30 am six days a week, (alternate HIIT and weights) - I received quite a bit of ribbing, along with tips from the morning crew - it was humorous and embarrassing. It took a bit of time, yet I finally learned when to back off, vs. over exert, AND when to eek out that last minute of running or weight rep vs. stopping or slowing down too soon. Yesterday, I too experienced nausea. I knew how much I could take so I pressed through on the second to last run. On the last run I knew I had to slow down, and I did.
  5. How exciting Kellsmac!!!! <3 Congrats on completing week 1!
  6. I absolutely agree! Focus instead on what you will feel upon completion and then by all means share your energy here - after your fingers warm up of course! Can't wait to hear about your run!
  7. And THIS is what happens when two or more of like mind gather together, uplift AND take full responsibility for their personal fitness goals... it's so empowering and absolutely contagious! Thank you Jo! <3 I'm feelin' your energy! Responded earlier and had to quote the below ...
  8. Hey HukMup, you are welcome! This is fun! Added another update (W2D1-success) in main post up above. Currently listening too: We Are The Champions ... it feels apropos!
  9. "It is a personal choice, so only if you choose. I don't and do not miss it at all." I wanted to clarify. I was never into counting calories, I tried it, yet when I started Body for Life (2003) ... I stopped and have never counted a calorie since - I notice calories, yet I do not count them. I loved and still love BFL's approach - palm and fist portions/5-6 light meals a day. Easy peasy, along with being FUN! As a side note, I dropped from 26.6% body fat down to 13.3% body fat at the end of 12 weeks. Today, I have yet to set nutrition and water goals, yet I will definitely return to the above approach as it worked so well for me.
  10. Hi Diane! It is a personal choice, so only if you choose. I don't and do not miss it all. Speaking of auto pilot ... it's great gettin' back into the drivers seat again isn't it!! Taking control in life-affirming ways!
  11. Right on Anthony!! Imagine a great big HIGH FIVE from Tri Cities WA! I am looking forward to getting to know you AND hearing how you progress!! Cheers!
  12. Hey Jessie!! I am so thrilled to hear you remained committed to working out today - in spite of and because of the fact that your friend was not able to go. WAY TO GO!!! I bet you felt great! On that note ... hope your friend feels better very very soon AND I cannot wait to hear about your next run - either alone or together!! Cheers!!!
  13. Yep! What Trish shared!! Welcome Tanzenite! And good job! I can't wait to run 3 miles! Looking forward to learning more about you and hearing about your progress! Cheers!

  16. I can't wait to hear about the changes I know you (and your friend) will feel and experience! Welcome to the ZenLabs forums Jessie! Early congrats on starting on Monday!!! CHEERS!
  17. LOL I literally put two Kleenex in my pockets before running out the door.
  18. Hahaha Azatol ... made me laugh!!! Yay!!
  19. Hi Applerose! Welcome welcome!!! Congrats on your first run!
  20. Tee, nothing sad about your run/walk today. You got out there! Right on!!! That is success and cause to celebrate! My first day I was not able to run all parts. No biggy, I walked them instead. It's different for each of us - adjust as needed and be patient with your progress - be it slow or fast. Love your "I will do it!" attitude!! Cheers!
  21. I cannot seem to find the myfitnesspal app. I see counters, yet I'm not interested in counting calories. Was it a different app that others were talking about in regards to connecting with other C25K participants?
