  1. AWhite, congrats on your first workout!! Hope you keep us posted on your progress. And I agree with Trish .... the Diva Dash sounds dang fun!! You ARE on your way to a fitter and healthier you! Me too! I'm 51 and in the same boat Zenlabs is an awesome community! So happy you joined in Cheers!
  2. Bettin' for you Az! WayHAY to go!! CHEERS! And I'm happy you'll stick around
  3. This morning I was an eager beaver and off I went to read member's profiles. It is NOT required to create a profile of course - it is only there for fun. That said, being the hermit I am, I highly value my privacy. Filling out my profile was a huge win for me because of the fact I had distanced myself from many over the last few years. Old news! 'I'm breaking out' is new news! Anyhooty, upon my discovery of how empty profiles were, (with the exception of one: KellyAnn...way-to-go Kelly LOL) I giggled and I was embarrassed because I went to town on my profile and then some! LOL. And then Sergeant Schultz came to mind, (yes, I am dating myself). I could not help but share this video in regards to our empty profiles: I See Nothing! I see nothink! I hear nothink! I was not here! I did not even get up this morning!" LOL Yes, I'm making fun of myself mainly, and also playfully inviting YOU to share more if you feel comfortable doing so. Lastly, profiles are not necessary. Each post I read keeps me coming back for more. Thank you!
  4. Put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walkin' across the floor. Put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walkin' out the door! ~Young Kris Kringle

  5. "You never will get where you're going if you never get up on your feet. A fast walkin' man is hard to beat!" ~Young Kris Kringle ;)

  6. LOL I betcha ... they will want to join in when they see how much fun you two are having.
  7. Thank you so much! Suffice to say for now, increasing leg strength makes complete sense to me ... I bet that's it. My legs are definitely out of shape (I have mistreated my poor knees!), and yes it felt more like my bone was affected vs. actual joint. I am still not sure though. What I did find odd was that the inside of my knee is painful to touch. I have more questions to ask and will respond in more depth later today. I'll also watch the video before responding as well.
  8. WayHAY to press on - in spite of and because of aches and pains! CHEERS!
  9. Alicen! Congrats! How exciting to stretch beyond something you disliked intensely, too preparing for your first 20 minutes! Your choice to test personal boundaries and then move beyond is exciting! Wow! Talk about self-accountability! Your energy shared in regards to your accomplishment is palpable, and as Azatol shared, it IS epic! Thank you so much for sharing here. I also enjoy how you gently and firmly made a decision to wait until it was clear to run your first 20 minutes vs. vacillating or feeling guilt about not running 'that' day. Thank you. It inspires me to continue practicing self-compassion and to be self-discerning vs. judgmental. That said, I don't have the right gear to wear when it is pouring rain either! LOL Yesterday morning it was beautiful ... right after I finished ... downpour! I was thankful to have finished my run (outside) before the rain. When I do purchase some decent all weather workout gear ... I'll be dancing in that rain - during workouts! Cheers! ps. Can't wait to hear more from you!
  10. Healthy! How exciting! Please share with him that I so admire his courage in getting out there (running and skiing) in spite of and because of his nervousness What a blessing for both of you - connection, family, health - life-affirming values come to mind. Smiling!
  11. Hey Lauren, if you are seeking an accountability partner ... check out Accountability 2015! Many of us are posting our progress, (diary style). It is a great way to give and to receive encouragement and support. These boards are the icing on my cake and/or they support me in remaining self-accountable. Congrats on completing week 1 and beginning week 2! Right on!!!
  12. Val, your gym commitment of three weeks is awesome! Congrats! I am also have my sights fixed on a 5K March run, so I will be cheering you on from afar, yet very near in heart! Definitely peruse the forums AND post any questions you may have about your knees. There is much to be found - tons of support, encouragement and inspiration to receive from others growing, (running/walking) through the same thing ... including knee issues! I've been visited by the knee demon ... he's making me pay attention to other body parts I may need to (must) strengthen and care for. Warmest of welcomes to the boards!! Cheers! ps. Love that your two daugthers inspired you! What a fun and colorful month to run a first 5K! Lynn, right on! Grats on Day 1!! Celebrate with gusto!! As you shared above, one foot in front of the other! Those days, minutes and miles will add up and each success is worthy of celebration! I have to giggle ... every time, and I mean every time I see the phrase, 'one foot in front of the other' I start humming or singing this... classic tune. Powerful transformation comes to mind!! I'm melting away! (in a good way)! LOL
  13. Applicable to C25K app: "A watched pot never boils!" Please step away from your app while running! LOL

  14. It is an excellent theory Az! A watched kettle never boils, or a watched pot never boils! (ascribed to Poor Richard and/or Benjamin Franklin) I wonder if Ben ran? teehee
  15. I just found this: Running Will Not Ruin Your Healthy Knees:There's a strong myth that running can ruin your knees, says Reynolds, but that's not actually true if your knees start out injury-free. "The science actually shows that if you have a healthy knee to start with, running tends to increase the amount of cartilage that you produce," she says. "Running prompts the cartilage cells, which are the shock absorbers in your knees, to divide and produce more cartilage. So in theory, running is actually healthy for your knees." Yes, I'm using Google for information. No it is NOT my doctor. No I do not blindly believe everything I read. I do find it helpful and I enjoy the food for thought it provides. That said ... I didn't realize that running builds cartilage. Which means that walking will be very good for me on my off days. For those who have been at this longer ... am I understanding the above quote correctly? I do not think my knees are unhealthy, they are just out of shape, so perhaps that is why I am experiencing pain.
  16. Right on Hermia! 5lbs is noticeable for me as well! Congrats! Updated my workout via original post: W3D2 Success. My knees are not happy ... doing some research.
  17. WayHAY to go Maggie! Success! I like this ^^^^ (yes I already reached my 'like this' quota today, so I can't click on 'like' ... (hey! I was gone for two days LOL)
  18. YAY! Looking forward to hearing more Lynn! Congrats on past achieves and early congrats on today's start! Cheers!
  19. Nice Az! I'm actually looking forward to WEARING shorts again, or at least feel comfortable wearing them around again =P
  20. Right on Maggie! I like that you are thinking about walking on your off days. I may try that as well. Cheers!!
  21. Excellent progress! Again, Crash, I love how you are trusting your instinct in regards to what you can and cannot do and adjusting as is needed!! CHEERS!
