GO GO GO W5D3 is a blast. The feeling of completion is EPIC. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
-
Makie it easy on yourself. Run as slow as you possibly can. This is a game of endurance. Don't worry about speed yet though. You'll know when you need to slow it down to go to distance. For now, do what's comfortable.

They make water bottles made for gripping with a strap. Also have waist packs with little drink bottles on them.

C25K: W3D3 - Three Weeks Already! It Goes So Fast!
Azatol replied to TheRoseWithin~Shannon's topic in Accountability Check-in
Great update Shannon. Your mental game is really in good shape. As for your knee pain i think we can help it but it's going to be tough. This is based on pure strength training knowledge and I'd love to hear what our trained fitness folks here think on this but here goes.... When I started lifting my knees hurt. It felt like the bones were the pain not the muscles. What I learned was I have no developed leg muscles so the knee joint itself is taking all of the stress. When you have muscles they stay partially tensioned and act as shock absorbers for the knee. Add leg strengh and decrease knee stress(This is all assuming you don't have a legitimate knee issue. I'm not a licensed medical professional). I beleive this is your path to less pain but it's going to be tricky.... Step one. If you have pain and are taking meds, stop running and let it heal. it will not ever heal if you keep running before it's healed. It sucks, but you'll feel better in the end. Next, I think you should drop back to 2 runs per week and on the third workout day, do strength training instead (Unless of course you already strength train). The top exercise for your legs in my opinion is negative split squats. They will burn your hamstrings but you can support yourself as much as needed on the chair so you won't have any knee pain. These will really help your leg strength. I'd also reccomend you do some bodyweight squats, push ups, and definitely planks(A strong core is good for running). Below is a link to a post I made for someone else on Negative Split Squats. Make sure and read what I wrote after the video. After you get some practice and used to the exercises and get some more leg strrength, you'll be able to run and then workout on the same days and be back to 3x/week. I wont be the slightest bit offended if you completely ignore these suggestions but I guarantee you life will get easier because of them. EVERYTHING is easier when you're stronger. Lengthening your completion time on C25K sucks but I think it will go better for you if you do it. Protecting your knees is win! http://forums.zenlabsfitness.com/topic/1449-never-been-able-to-run-always-wanted-to/?p=5522 -
As for the 3 minute jog, I'd like to ask you to read this. It's theory i have and it's quickly gaining support of others who have tried itl. http://forums.zenlabsfitness.com/topic/1446-get-your-hands-off-that-phone/

Maggie, If you want to repeat days you are more than welcome but my gut tells me you may lack the confidence moreso than the ability to move forward. Have you given it a try? This program is pretty scientific. In 9 out of 10 people (And that is a metric completely fabricated by me 20 seconds ago), your body is ready to move on. The mind has to ready to move on. I am in no way saying you should not redo days. I'm just making sure you are thinking about this and not sure you aren't holding yourself back because of the mental game. Thos are not the words of someone not ready to move on. Those are words of a fighter. Maybe think about it? What have you to lose? The quote in my sig is from a movie but to me it perfectly sums up the mental game.

Week 8 Day 2: Done deal. It was tough today. Over a mile of it was into 13mph headwind with higher gusts. On a positive note I was in a fighting mood. My last run was 2.42 miles at an 11:35 pace in 28 minutes. I was dead set on besting it today. 2.57miles at a 10:54 Pace!! I broke both my 2.5mi goal plus under the 11m/m all while fighting the wind!! Am I nervous aboutr W8D3 on Monday? Not even in the slightest! I'm gonna dust it. Body Weight 1 A workout. Each of the below exercises done as a circuit in order without stopping. Rest 60 seconds and repeat 2 more times. Push Ups 10 (Elbows tight close to your sides, not out wide at shoulder level. ) Bodyweight Squats 15 Planks :15 seconds Jumping Jacks 30 seconds Best part of today: 52 degrees. Shorts, running shirt and a beanie in January. Sun was shining, people playing soccer, kids on the playground, dogs everywhere. An amazing zenlike people watching experience, in the middle of winter. OK, have I left any important positive vibes out of anything today? I think I'm covered. Today's word of the day is:(Psst. Same word every day) -
I fixed that quote for you Cherise. The first training you need doesn't start with your legs. It starts upstairs in your squash. If you win the mental game, your body will cooperate. Start thinking like a fit person and you're body will start acting like one. Start thinking like a runner and you will be a runner. I don't care if you only ran for 30 seconds today. Run 32 on Sunday. Your brain doesn't want to run. It wants to watch TV and eat Pringles but the good news is you're in charge, not your brain(See the quote in my sig). Keep that up and you'll get a surprise <G> Welcome to the forums Remember: This is Couch to 5k. If you got off the couch today and tried, you succeeded!!

46 Degrees out already. Gonna go for W8D2 soon. I'm excited because this will be the first time I can wear just a running shirt and shorts since I did W1D1. Oooo yeah!!! Let those legs get some air.

Welcome and good luck!

Way to power through. Careful running outside. It's VERY addictive. All of a sudden you'll find yourself trying to figure out how to run in ridiculous temps because you hate the treadmill <G>
