  1. I don't know the answer to either question but wanted to say HI!!
  2. While I've yet to run a race I used to say. me run? 6 months ago the only thing that could make me run was a skippy ice cream truck! Welcome!!
  3. It's kind of funny Trish. One day I just went SNAP and changed. I was talking to a friend at work telling him I've reached a plateau in weight loss from walking. He told me strength training is where it's at. So I went home and started googling and I found this article(which I consider a life changing blog post).... http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ By the time I got to the end and read all the tabs I opened from links within, I was on a mission. I dove in head first on Paleo and Strength training and I've had wind filling my sails ever since. Discovered running and once again, GERONIMO!
  4. Awesome work but save your strength and enjoy the walk phases. You'll be tapping into those stores later on <G> Seriously though, the walking portions are for a reason. There is scientific and medical theory behind this program. Trust it and you'll have the success you seek.
  5. Tim you're doing the right thing. My injuries always last way longer than they should because i get impatient and don't let them heal then rehurt myself. It sucks but it's worth the wait!!
  6. Great start. It gets more addictive which = fun!!
  7. Gumby legs for the win!! If you don't already know the secret, it's time to google "Foam Rolling"
  8. I went from 268 to 230 in about 4 months. I'm a broken record but I gotta say it again. Paleo is where its at!!! Good luck with the journey.
  9. I usually say "Only if you walk less steps than I do" but we went ahead and took a chance on ya
  10. You aren't even close too too old because I'm 47 years and I'm way to immature to call old and you got but 2 years on me. I'm on week 7 so I'm positive you can do it too!! Welcome to the party, Mike
  11. Welcome Val, Sounds like you're coming out fo the chuite good and strong. Have fun with the journey!!
  12. WOWSER. You rule! I'm only good for 25 minutes at this point <Ducks> Welcome folks!!
  13. Kind of? I have gone from "I'm going to run today" to "I can't wait to run today" but the dedication, perseverence and confidence were there before I started them. Beasting my medical problems and losing well over 80 pounds already had my mental game right where I needed it.
  14. A treadmill right in the home removfes all obstacles!! Way to go!
  15. Todays word of the day is... Week 7 day 1 done deal! It was tough. Very tough. 18 degrees out and breezy on the river(as always). I had breathing issues. The wind was too cold on my face for the first 10 minutes and everytime I pulled my balaclava up over my nose and mouth I felt like I was fighting for air. Had to put it up, down, up, down until i warmed up and took it off. Body stayed fine with 3 layers plus a UA Hoodie and 2 layers on the bottom. On the last 5 minutes I was really fighting. Huffin and puffin and fighting but I WON! Today marks my breaking through the 2 mile barrier ( for the running portion )! Still had fun. Bench Press: Per the doctor, no benching over 100 until my shoulder heals. 95 pounds hurt bad. Did 45 pounds(bar weight) for 5 sets of 10 to keep my musles loose and range of motion Barbell Squats: 3x5 @155lbs Push Ups:: could only do 7 before the pain set in. Need more shoulder rest I guess. Planks: 3x:30
  16. Sorry for your mishap Missy. A little advice on missing workouts. 1) Forgive your self! Life happens, shrug it off and get rocking on your next one ( Or make it up if you want to ) 2) Never miss 2 in a row unless it's a real emergency type thing. Missing 2 begins a habbit and not one we want. Hope you're feeling better soon!!
  17. That's awesome that you were immediately hooked. Sounds like a winner in the making!
  18. Way to go Gnik. Welcome to your new hobby. I'd like to sya it get's easier but it doesn't.it sure as heck get's more fun though!!!! <grin>
  19. NY represent. From Rochester but living in Kentucky Welcome to the fun
  20. Well I can't compete with -14 but I'll be running in 14 tomorrow which is 20 degres colder than I've ever run. I gotta do 25 minutes and I'm extremely cold sensitive. Good luck to us both!!
  21. Hi RunFromClowns, I also love the name. I'd just like to comment on one section of what you said and that's dropping some pounds. Folks have probably heard Kelly and I repeat this like a broken record but Paleo is where it's at! If you learn to eat Paleo and keep running, you wont have to worry about pounds or calorie counting. They'll just fall off of you, along with your clothes so make sure you have some money stashed for more. LOL Diet is 80% of weight loss! BTW 40 pounds since August doing exactly what I told you. Paleo + exercise.
