blayneFor myself I come to conclusion that I need to loose more pounds before I can do longer distance runs. Otherwise it is too much load on my joints. I will do 5ks + walk +gym + bicycle to burn calories, and get healthier. When I loose 15-20 more pounds I will try 10K again.1 point

Hi Blayne I started Week 9 this week myself and was looking forward to the 1 minute breaks through the routine but having done the 1st session last night I actually thought the breaks took me out of my stride! Think I might run better just keeping going through the session. Just wondering if you use another app alongside the c10k? I use runkeeper to keep me at a specific pace through the run otherwise I'd be goosed after about 15 minutes. Perhaps you're going off too quick? I found that my splits over the 4 miles I was getting slightly quicker as I run and that's mostly through pacing myself right. If you're not tracking your pace I'd strongly advise it. Hopefully you'll start to love running, I used to hate it but the last few months I've grown to love it! Good luck!1 point

Nice Kellyh1970! I just did my week 1/Day 2 workout this evening. Lets keep going!1 point -
Week 3, Day 1 (Speedy version) Took 10 min warm um and 10 min cool down before workout: All walks are 3.8 mph, 4% incline. 5min walk 2 x ( 1.5min run - 1.5min walk; 3min run - 3min walk) Runs were 6.5 mph with 3% incline. Extra 2min 7mph run with 1% incline 5min walk Last 3min run interval was very difficult, but I manage to push through and after 3 min walk I was ready for the extra. Total time (with my prolonged warm-up and cool-down) 48 min, 3.5 miles... UPDATE - Apr 06, 2016 (instead of creating new post) Week 3, Day 2 (Speedy version) I did 1 mile walk before and after workout (3.5mph, incline 3%) Workout itself : All walks are 3.8 mph, 4% incline. 5min walk 2 x ( 1.5min run - 1.5min walk; 3min run - 3min walk) Runs were 6.5 mph with 3% incline. Extra 2min 7mph run with 1% incline 5min walk This time last 3min interval was bearable, I did not have any doubts about going for the extra running interval. Total time is 1h5min, distance is 4.35 miles1 point

I want to quit.

Hi Blayne, it's ok to repeat. Doesn't do any harm to our bodies and if it means we are better prepared for the next day/week then it's all good1 point -
I only have one more run until I graduate from C25K. Gonna start the 10k app next week and I'm very apprehensive. I have to say, however, that coming across this thread is helping me a lot. Sometimes I feel like quitting as well but having had the experience of having to do that and then starting over is enough to make me push through. Look at all the progresses you've made. You don't want to start over and face week 1 all over again. The only possible way is forward. I think you're doing awesome! Thank you so much for sharing how you're doing and for making me see the 10k app is not impossible to run even though it looks like a massive jump.1 point

On W3D1 but after being down a week with a migraine and making a mistake yesterday in the program(somehow was on W5D1 yikes), I am going to try to do W3D1 today which is what I should have done yesterday. LOL I am having a little self doubt that I will be ready for the 5k on May 1st but I assume that is normal. Little hard on myself but migraine meds pretty much knock me out and I cannot risk doing anything on those days.1 point

Congrats to you! This is a big achievement for guys like us. What is your next goal, increase speed or 10k?1 point

I've had one of my best runs in the rain. Also, view your time off as a chosen rest period. Mentally and physically, it helps to ramp down the distance a bit every 4 to 8 weeks, for one week. I came back from a 8 km stronger and a lot faster.1 point

is it possible to take it inside on these days? We are sweltering hot here, so I am indoors with fans on me. much easier. and can listen to music up high and not have to worry about traffic1 point

Don't give up. The spring is near! (Here it is crazy raining today too, but weekend looks promising)1 point

I graduated the c25k last year - never a runner in my life! I hadn't done a good run for 6 weeks, eaten a lot, drank a whole lot of red wine. This morning I set my 5.30am alarm ...... Knew it was going to be a struggle re-starting ...... But boy I feel great now. I'm determined to get fit again and run 2-3x per week. I need to stay motivated! (And lose weight ..... Again ......)1 point

I had 'quitting thoughts' from time to time as well. What worked for me is thinking about having thrown away everything I've done since last year, culminating in my meeting goals that would have been unthinkable last January. The idea of going back to that person was definitely a disincentive. So I put some more POSITIVE incentives out there. I'm kinda into the bling, to be honest. So I signed up for a challenge on the MakeYesHappen website. When I run 31 miles in training (linked to and tracked by Runkeeper), I'll get this cool-looking New Year's medal. They have other challenges ranging from 26 miles to over 90 miles (if memory serves) and the cost isn't that much. I signed up for the remaining "Freeze Your Buns 5K" series that the Gate City Striders put on in Nashua NH. I'm also scouring the web looking for half marathons to run. I set a goal in Runkeeper of doing 13.1 miles in one session by the July 4th weekend.1 point

How funny, I like eating myself, that's why I run in the morning and on an empty stomach, that way I don't feel cramp about eating a super duper and calorific breakfast, try it! Don't give up, after the long 20 minute run its starts to feel awesome and you see your self improving in every possible way and feel like you are the best! Try listening to music, Spotify offers a premium 7 day trial so you can listen to whatever you want! Try getting your friends family to run with you, time goes flying then and you don't find yourself thinking of stoping to walk, or giving up half way, cos you're busy talking.. I run on my own this whole time but because I'm always talking about it I found my self two awesome running bodies and it makes such a difference to have people doing it with you, we did our first ever 10k and so far that has been my most pleasant run! Don't give up! C'mon be a man about it!1 point

Getting started is tough, for sure. For me seeing weight come off and now my 5K times by nearly minute every time I perform a max effort run, it keeps motivated. Early on my motivation was my health - I want to be an active dad for my kids and be healthy to get the most out of life. I am at a point where I enjoy running and it's become a habit. I've started breaking up my routine to keep it interesting. You can do this if you think of yourself as a runner. http://www.active.com/running/articles/9-ways-to-get-motivated-to-run1 point
