January 5th, - T25 Cardio and Weight Training January 6th - Week 6 Day 1 of 10k app. Ok, I am going to start my journal on here too, I need it myself. Ok, A little bit about your Moderator, One, I love being a Moderator on here. When ZenLabs asked me to be one I Jumped for Joy! It is my dream helping people and watching the Forums. I love all of you! I started in the fitness field in my early 30's after my youngest was born in Louisiana. I started walking with him as he cried a lot and walking would keep him quiet, Go Me! LOL. My Husband was in the Air Force there. When he retired Air Force we moved to Colorado where he found a computer job. That job took us overseas to Amsterdam Holland for the next almost 5 years. Oh my gosh, did we love it there and we so embraced the culture as did our boys who were 5 and 1 back then. Looking around I was the 'fat' American lady, haha. Ok a size 10, but on me that is fat as I am only 5'2" and every pound shows on me.. So I met this English Lady who asked me to to the Gym with her, ok, I was bored so I went. WOW OH WOW, what a journey that was. I got in the best shape of my life, ever. But I was way too skinny, but Europeans loved that, seriously, hardly see a chubby Dutch person. We rode our bikes everywhere and walked. At the time I did not have a car. I ended up running every weekend in 5k's, 10k's, half marathons. It was a blast. I could drink a bottle of wine a day and not gain at all. I got into teaching and went to the States to get certified. I am AFAA, ISSA, NESTA, NAFC Certified in Fitness, Nutrition and Coaching. I worked out so hard. I loved teaching in Europe about 10x a week. Man, I had energy. HENCE, the name above, EnergyXtra. When I got a car in Holland, i had no idea at the time, but a guy from class noticed it, my license plate said nrgxtr, He is like, hey Kelly, that is so you, Energy Extra. SO it stuck. I have a personal FB page that I help my friends achieve their goals by that name too. Thats me, too much energy, I am pretty active. I run circles around some 20 year olds, lol.. I was a size 12 little girl, sheesh, which nowadays is that a size 0000??? Only problem with that was I still myself to that standard and I am back at a size 10 now. Is that because this is where my body wants me to be? I wish I never was that skinny, but I am looking ahead. Ok, flash forward to now. We lived in Utah, which I hated with my life, so I went to Beauty School. Exercising in Europe is a huge social scene, in Utah, women had so many kids that they left as soon as class was over so I got lonely and went to school instead. I loved Beauty School. Then we moved to Nevada, where we live now and hubby worked in California. my boys loved our country life. Small town, 200 kids in the whole school, raised farm animals. I did teach a class at the school for a few years and I now go to a class and I do not teach anymore, only sub. SO of course, after all those years of teaching, i just quit. I still walked, but now I am, JUST LIKE YOU, I am human. I am as determined as you all are to lose those 20lbs., i really need to lose........so when they asked me to Moderate, I was like, heck yeah, that will help me too.... My husband of 30 years and I eat really healthy, we just love our cocktails on the weekend way tooo much.. So we are now stopping that and eating way way better. I am already down a few pounds and I am sooooo excited for the New Year. Lets Do this everyone, I am as real of a person as you are, and I love that everyone helps each other on here too.. Cheering each other on. As I get older, I now want to be in the best shape I can be in and feel great... Now you know who I am .......2 points -

sdbeachgirl and one other reacted to Timb113 for a topic
Missy, you can do this. Don't beat yourself up if you didn't have the ideal day. You were out there, and your were cognizant of what you want to do and where you want to go. Be patient and trust yourself! Great job!2 points -
Hang in there Missy, It doesn't actually matter if you do 60 seconds of jogging. All that matters is you jogged a second or two more than last time. If not, it was a bad day. We all have them but withoiut the bad day to set a baseline you wouldn't know how to feel so awesome on a good day. It's just about doing a tiny bit better than yesterday. You can do W1 D2 as many times as you need until you nail it and again, each time you repeat it, just increases the joy you will feel when you nail it. You CAN do this if you want it bad enough. I think you've got fight in ya!2 points

You're doing great! We all have days that disappoint us; how we deal with it can determine how successful we are. Don't let it get to you - one day at a time, one step at a time I hope you didn't beat yourself up too badly about the pizza either...it happens. The important thing is you are making an effort and are recognizing what's healthy for you...and the rest of the day you did great with your food! That cottage pie sounds yummy!2 points -
Thank you all! I believe in being honest and putting it out there. I wanted to post my stats so that I will be honest with myself. I am great at motivating myself at the beginning of a challenge but it does start to wane and I do not have the support around me to push me on - Not my Husbands fault as we are both busy people. I think I have found that support network here though Timb113 - I really hope that will be the case! Bad Backs suck huh Azatol - Thank you, you are too kind! I have accepted myself for who I am and I am OK with that, But these change I make I want to make, for me, Kellyann - Thank you for the words of encouragement Shannon - You are a star. I love your enthusiasm. I used to cope with life stresses via the gym when I was an Office Manager - The best way to work through problems! I certainly need that back in my life now. Thank you all for your kind words Hope your days have been good! Today Well today was supposed to be a rest day, but knowing myself I know I have to do something to keep my motivation. So I took myself off to the gym and had some gentle exercise on the Arc trainer - 5 minutes x2. and 3 mins on the hand bike. Today was also my second day of the 30 day plank challenge - 20 seconds does not seem like much but I could not do it.....scary to think I used to do 60 seconds no prob. Also did 40 stomach crunches while I was down on the floor! I should have mentioned in my first post I joined slimming world before Christmas - So I am following that on the diet side. Lunch was chicken breast with mixed veg Dinner - Omelette - Onion, mushroom, peppers, chicken with harrisa spices 2litres of water2 points

(I hope) Who else is on week 7? I know azatol is. I'd love to hear everyone's stories!! A cold front has moved in this week, but I am determined to finish this outside. I have never run inside yet. -6 tomorrow and -11 on Thurs. I may experience those frozen eyelashes yet!1 point -
Catch me if you can: my journey
sdbeachgirl reacted to CrashLN for a topic
I really like the idea of keeping a personal record of my journey...a way to keep track of little milestones other than the runs on the app. I'm a 38yo mom of 2. I completed a 10k years before I had kids, and I'd love to be able to complete that goal again. I am currently only running on a treadmill because a) I can do it while my young kids watch a show I hate running in cold weather and c) I get terrible shin splints when I run too much outside I do like being able to keep track of my speed on the treadmill and pushing for a faster pace I just completed Wk3 day1 this morning. I walk at speed 4 and run at speed 6.2 (hoping to increase that next time). I hated walking for 3 min once I found my rhythm, so I broke those intervals up into walk a min, run a min, walk a min. Much better!1 point -
Day 1 of week 1 completed
sdbeachgirl reacted to debwal124 for a topic
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and new to running. At the age of 46, I have always found an excuse not to exercise on a regular basis. I have always secretly admired those people who run. So when I was asked at work to take part in a 10K at the end of April, I initially said no and that I would never be able to run that far in a million years. I work in a fantastic team, with everyone being very encouraging and telling me that if I download a couch to 10K app, it really is achievable...........even for a middle aged woman like myself. So I set my alarm for 5.30 this morning..............unfortunately it did go off and whilst I contemplated hitting that snooze button, I knew that if I did not get up this morning and start the running programme then I never would. So pleased I got up and got on with it, even at such an early hour. I managed to complete day 1 and felt a huge sense of achievement. I know its very early days but I am determined to be able to run the 10K. For those of you thinking "is she mad" getting up so early????? For me running first thing in the morning is going to be the best time, as once I am home from work I tend to just want to chill and don't think I would be disciplined enough to go out for a run. Will keep you posted on my progress and look forward to being part of the forum and getting to know beginners like myself. Deb1 point -
Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. I am feeling more positive today but have decided to have a total rest day. Got weighed today and I surprised myself! Only put on half a pound over Christmas! Even with the pizza!1 point

sdbeachgirl reacted to TheRoseWithin~Shannon for a topic
Hi Sinx! I do not have Asthma, yet I did find this informative, perhaps helpful for you: Asthma-Run With It! She, (the author) mentions some helpful tips in regards to cold weather. Also, check this out for inspiration: Paula Radcliffe has run in the Olympics for Great Britain four times in spite of suffering from Asthma. There are many other articles in regards to what she uses and when. I googled: Asthma and running and had fun perusing different blogs. You can do it ... even if it means starting slowly. I'm looking forward to hearing what you choose to do! CHEERS!1 point -
I've been a runner off and on for years, and started using this app in Sept as a way to ease in without overdoing it and getting shin splints. I lost interest during week 3 then...determined to see this through this time, and hoping joining the forum will keep me motivated! Up to wk3day1 as of today. Already increasing my pace!1 point

Well, another day of dog walking (1.35 miles) and a gentle bike ride (4 miles) to keep the knee feeling good. I'm fighting the urge to run since the knee is feeling better, but I'm trying to work on strengthening the IT Band and stretching before I go for a run. I'm trying to hold off until Sunday before I run a mile. I'm hoping I can to it, because I want to be healthy. I'm falling in love with running and this injury if pretty frustrating.1 point

Great job to get yourself out the door. Sometimes once you make that first "I'll do it later" it becomes late that night and you're kicking yourself for never doing it. Great job of motivation and hitting the streets! I always loved the feeling of finishing a week and the anticipation of how my body would hold up running that extra time during the next week.1 point

OneFit, In spite of and because of all that you have been through, I am excited for you. I see a woman willing to take one tiny step forward and then another and another. I also notice your life-affirming humor! It is a must to laugh at ourselves at times, right! I am inspired; I am moved and I am also reminded to enjoy my small steps because they sure do add up! Thank you. You are a perfect example: · (paraphrasing what you wrote) Week one I started one block walking. Week 2, I was one block jogging, and then one week later I ran the Golden Gate Bridge! I was so exhilarated! I kept at this for 4 months and overtime I lost 45lbs! · “Taking my life back one mile at a time…” · “Right now I finished w1d2 and I can hardly breathe. It feels amazing ….” First of all … CONGRATS on w1d2!! You’ve already proven you can push past areas you strongly believed you disliked (running) AND you have certainly overcome the disturbing and shocking loss of a friend. I have no doubt in my mind you can overcome Fargo North Dakota’s bitter cold, your withdrawals and depression. Why? Cuz … you’ve already taken the first two steps. J I’m wearing big girl panties too! Mind you, it’s not as cold, yet my eyelashes froze on the first day, I sounded funny when talking; I was fearful I wouldn’t feel a snot-sicle forming , and I just finished W1D3! Can’t wait to hear what steps you take next! <3 CHEERS!1 point -

Suhn26, I did the same thing during the warmup and cooldown, just a brisk walk. Then after you have completed a day, you should stretch. Not a problem taking a break, if needed. You are listening to your body and that's key. I would suggest that you keep moving during that time, even if it's a slow walk, but definitely listen to what your body is telling you. Great job so far, keep it up!1 point -

Amanda, you gave me goosebumbs!!! You are an exemplar of pressing on - in spite of and because of!! Honestly, I had to giggle while reading as I could so relate to what you were feeling - been there done that, and still do that on occasion. LOL In the past especially, I would fret and worry about step 10 long before accomplishing step 1 OR I'd worry about how I would feel AFTER, before even beginning or completing. LOL So silly of me. In your case, you were worried about how you would feel (dissapointment) before you had even begun or finished. Nevertheless, you persevered - in spite of and because of your fear of what you 'might' experience - and achieved success! I sure feel good about what YOU achieved and have continued to achieve! Definitely! Thank you Amanda! WayHAY to go siSTAR! Congrats to everyone else too! Energized after reading these posts! CHEERS!1 point -

Starting today hoping to turn diabetes
Seans-momo reacted to Azatol for a topic
Folks, I can tell you with some certainty that it can be done. As of Halloween my doctor declared me no longer diabetic. I was on 1000 milligrams of metformin this summer. Nothing right now and my blood sugar rarely tops 100. My A1C was 4.9 last momth. The recipe? 1) PALEO DIET!!!! Eat like our ancesters 2) Exercise. I started lifting weights now I run and lift. I was 315 last year. Walked off a lot of it. 268 when I went Paleo and started working out in August( was walking and eating low carb diet before that but weight loss stopped even with 10k steps a day ). Now I'm diabetes free, off blood pressure meds and 226 pounds. Down 2-3 shirt sizes and 3 pant sizes There is another piece of the puzzle. STRENGTH TRAINING ( which running is a form of ). FACT: Muscle burns calories faster. FACT: your metabolism is elevated for up to 48 hours after you work out. The most important part and the hardest one we have to come to terms with is diet is 80% of the game. Running and strength training alone will get you down a little but diet is where it's at. When you combine the two, bye bye pounds. hello better feeling me. <hops off soap box>1 point -
