  2. Glad to find this place. Today was my first day I completed the jog/walk on a treadmill. I walked at three and jog at 3.5. That speed seemed tolerable for now I am a female age 54 and have a bout 50 pounds to lose is there a set rate we should be running out on a treadmill? thank you so much everyone sorry if my question seems ignorant I have some health issues and need to get this right.

  3. That's right. 2015 is not the year for IFs. It's not IF you will change your diet, it's WHEN It's not IF yoiu will run a 5k, it's WHEN It's not IF you will feel better about yourself it's WHEN IF you have the mental fortitude to forge ahead with this change, you will know it was the right decision WHEN you see the results <G>

    New year, new me!

I just downloaded this app and my fitness pal. It's all a but overwhelming as I have never really been able to stick with a workout longer then a week. I'm ready for a life change that I will be able to keep. I never exercise and eat what I want. I joined a gym and have been getting healthy meal ideas. I am overweight and just ready to be healthy and have some energy, I have two girl, a 10 year old and a 7 month old so finding time for myself isn't easy. I've decided this is something I'm gonna do for myself and my "me" time will be focusing on working out. I have a very supportive husband as well. Wish me luck on this new journey!

  5. I just downloaded this app. It seems great for having others to chat with about your process! Tonight once I get time to myself I will be starting week 1 day 1. I have a 10 year old and a 7 month old so I'm gonna have to start making time for myself to get healthy. I turn 30 on Thursday and want to start my 30s out right!

  8. Keep at it regardless of what you think others may think about you. I finished week 6 day 3 last night. Ponder this, people looking at you from inside their homes are doing just that. Looking, not doing. Stay the course, don't think about what others think - think about how much you are doing for yourself.

    just finished my first run

Hi! I'm a 32 year old working woman who's never run before. I'm out of shape & not very fit. I just finished my first run today and hope to continue with all the stamina of the first day. A couple of questions, though. 1. What exactly should one do during the cooldown? I just kept walkin for the cooldown. Is that correct? 2. I was very tired midway through the workout, so I took a 2 minute break to relax. I just sat quietly for 2 minutes and then resumed the workout. Is that permissible?

  13. Replying to my own post to say, the setting I needed to change is the iOS setting for Twitter, not for the app. This is where the app gets the account from. Remove/add accounts there to determine what the app will use. I didn't think there were iOS settings for Twitter unless you had the Twitter app! The more you know.

  15. Speaking of frozen ... I said to my 15 year old son on Monday, "Hey honey, my nose is numb. If you happen see a frozen icicle hangin' from the inside of me nose ... feel free to take a whack at it! I won't mind at all!" He rolled his eyes. *snickers* Frozen eyelashes feel so funny! So excited to run tomorrow ... it snowed last night!

  16. Wow Missy, I'm impressed with you. Being able to post your bodily measurements, in a coed forum shows bravery and dedication. You may not realize it but your a woman who's (at least partly)comfortable in her own skin. I do the same on my fitness forums but it's a men only forum. I'm no longer self conscious about it though. Add in that your a mom, wife and pushing for an education. You're a woman chock full of dedication. I'm confident that we will watch those numbers shrink. The only numbers I expect to increase are the size of your smile, your endurance and your confidence. You have a recipe for success. I'll be watching this one!

  17. Hi everyone! Feel free to start your own individual posts inside the Accountability topic! It is very helpful to post and describe your progress and feelings, very much like a diary or journal. You can then look back and see just how far you have come! This particular post can be used to find fellow friends to help keep you on track. Special shoutout to our fabulous moderator KellyAnn for keeping the forums a friendly and safe place!

  18. Once I decided I love running, i invested a few bucks in some quality gear. Also did it during pre and post xmas sales so many things were half off. I wear russel athletic wicking baselayer from Walmart with a long sleeve running shirt and a Brooks LSD wind shell that's ridiculously thin. On the bottom I just have a pair of loose fit running pants. Synthetic running gloves and a beanie and I'm good to go down into the lower 30's . Coler than that I'll add in a baselayer bottom and some merino wool glove liners and should be good down into the 20s. Below that, I'll most likely wimp out and pay for a month membership at the YMCA with an indoor track, LOL

  20. Amy, right on!!! So excited for you! Love your crazy dream!! LOVE IT! Can't wait to see how you progress! <3 In regards to "any helpful thoughts" ... Not sure this will help, yet I can share from personal past and present experience: 1) When my life-numbing voice spoke up: "don't feel like it today" "turn around... return" "I can't ..." "this is too hard, too early, too late, too tired, too busy" [etc...] "your not as young as you used to be Shannon" [eye-roll] "I'll start Monday <insert whatever day it is for you here>" [my popular go too] EDIT during my W1D2 run today: "I don't have the right running outfits/gear! I look ridiculous." [am I running naked? No! Are you warm? Yes! Well then. hush, and carry on!]. ... made myself laugh at me today! LOL Push past. It is as simple as that. Once I pushed back once, the second time became easier and that adds up. Also committing to the same time each day supported me in staying on track. When I experienced a setback and could not follow through, I'd simply run later that day, or skipped and picked up the next day. "Progress not perfection". 2) I learned that there is a world of support present everywhere, outside home, and it's up to me to simply reach out - either at a gym, or online, (no matter where we struggle there are groups out there to support - online and offline). I have only to open myself up and jump in. The really cool thing? When I jumped in ... people jumped in to support me AND eventually, so too did my family. As far as running at night ... what works best for you? When is it most convenient? When do you feel the most inspired? I prefer early morning - I love being a part of nature waking up, and seeing folks heading into work. I also enjoy how it defines my morning and sets the tone for the rest of the day for me. I've noticed just as many who love; who are invigorated by an afternoon or late evening run! ps. I'm getting back in the saddle again too. I am returning to what worked in the past for me, AND also adding in the new. Mainly, I am determined to re-connect and stay connected. Can't wait to see what I learn this go-round!

  21. New to running again after 20 years (just turned 40), life, kids, major knee injuries, etc. Going to take it slow and try to listen to my body, but it's hard when your body says "go back!! Go back!" How do you get past that and a unhelpful bipolar hubbie? I want to di this! I have this crazy dream if running a Disney half marathon someday. I would love to run with my 6 1/2 yr old boy who has done and liked the kiddos "final mile" & really liked running. He's ADHD and activity it's wonderful for him. Anyone got any helpful thoughts for all or some of this.

  24. Luckily I'm controlled by diet and Metformin. (I'm what used to be considered a "borderline" diabetic, good sugars but a mildly elevated A1C.) As for picky eaters - I have a 3 year old who prefers as many carbs as possible, and a husband who feels the same way. Neither cares for veggies or fruit. Thank god my 19-month-old is a walking trash compactor and eats everything. Never seen a kid eat meatloaf as fast as my son does! I love stir-fry, crock pots, even my old George Foreman grill. Meat roll-ups, romaine leaves instead of taco shells, I've even found a super low-carb tortilla for fajitas and quesadillas. Beef, black bean soup, chili, pulled pork or chicken all make it on my favorites list. I'm rapidly approaching the "two choices" method for dinner - take it or leave it, I'm tired of making everyone a separate dinner because they don't want what I cooked. I never think of hard-cooked eggs, thanks for the reminder! I used to make chicken salad, egg salad, and tuna salad in 50-pound batches for work, that should all be OK on top of mixed greens or as vegetable dips, right? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it Kelly!
