I would suggest to everyone for to get fitted for their first pair of shoes. I did and it was totally worth it. Tried on different pairs and settles on Sauconys. I don't remember which ones, but they feel like heaven on my feet!

Georgia, good for you getting started!! That's usually the hardest part. Was for me anyway. That's the best thing about this app, it constantly challenges and pushes you, and there are a million people cheering you on! I usually run religiously every other day M-F and sometimes Sunday's, so I'll check in on you often :-) You got this!

I did w8d3 last night, so have finished!! I'm going to keep working on my 5k times until I get them where I want them. Endurance first, speed later. Well, speed is now for me. Great job everyone!!

Good for both of you for taking the hardest step, which is the first one!!! Be proud of yourselves! I've just begun week eight of the program, and one of the biggest things I've learned, is if you're out running, the people that aren't are jealous of you. Wishing they could do it. And if others are running around you, they are paying attention to themselves. Before I began running myself, I would see others doing it and think that's so awesome they have that kind of drive. I was so jealous!! So, just remember if anyone notices you running, it's because they are wishing they could do it too. Stay with this program, it works!! And everyone here is cheering you on!

    I dislike running.

But I dislike being a couch potato more.

Running is a means to an end, for me.  I've cut back my diet, stuck to the C25K program (now into C10K) and my goals are in sight.

What are those goals?  Well, I've dropped a little more than 20 of the 47 pounds I wanted to lose.  I'm on track to run in a pair of races in Florida next month - and the finisher medals for those races have extra meaning to me as I was told, as a child, I'd never walk again.

Something I never expected - my wife commenting on the definition of my legs when running.  Before a couple of weeks ago, NOBODY had EVER used the word "definition" when referring to a part of my body...

There are things I want in life.  Running is a means to those ends.

I have always hated running. Even in high school and college. Basketball conditioning was torture for me, and if even fake injuries to get out of running. Decided I wanted to try it, thanks to my kid who joined cross country in school. I'm SO GLAD I DID!! I never ever thought I'd succeed at this, but I love it so much I crave running. Stick with the program. Do it every other day. And don't give up. You CAN do this! If I can anyone can, believe me.

Best time or not, you DID it! At the end of the day, that's all that matters. I'm doing w7d3 this afternoon. Just hate that it's on a treadmill, but better than not at all.

Congrats! I just finished week 6, and the advice I can give you is two things. 1) Pace is everything. Slow is better. And 2) Later in the program, SO much is mental. You CAN do this!!! Believe in yourself, and trust the program, because it really works.

Guess what! I managed The infamous w5d3 yesterday! It really wasn't as hard as I had initially thought a couple of weeks ago, Azatol, you were right, it's all in the mind! I had some extra energy and continue for a couple more minutes beyond the 20 minute mark.

I did it against what I think was my better judgement, with my sore back because I didn't want to have to repeat days or go backwards. It didn't seem to aggravate it, which was great, but it hasn't improved much yet. A thread about back pain mentioned that it's due to the fact that our bodies are just getting used to exercise and the cure for it is exercise, any thoughts? http://forums.zenlabsfitness.com/topic/2206-back-pain/#entry11313

W6d1 was just one of those "off" runs. Bad planning, couple days of bad eating, and the treadmill kicked off on me AGAIN. Ran out the door and down the street for the last 15 minutes or so. Way colder out than I thought, and about froze my fingers off lol. I'll be re-doing this one tomorrow.

Shooting out off the starting line from adrenaline is always a mistake. You chose wisely! Most folks shoot out like a bullet and run their fastest mile, then they have a difficult second mile and do the "dying man's shuffle" in the final mile. BAD.

Smart racers negative split races. That means you start out at an easy comfortable pace and each mile you pick up your pace. On the final mile, you are warmed up, in your groove and running your fastest mile. You pass all the people doing the dying mans shuffle and it boosts your spirit and energy even more. This is the best way to use your energy for racing and maximises performance. It also feels awesome. I try and negative split every run other than my really long ones. On those I'm just trying to maintian my pace and finish the distance. Once I lock that distance in I can focus on speeding up.

Thats how my dad did his 2 halfs and one full he was never in it for the time just to prove he could do them and that was back way before the first car phones or beepers you read books and magazines to learn what to do and how to train no apps

It was incredible! It was also reeeeally hard not to take off like a shot and blow my pace out of the water. I found a guy about 1/2 mile in who ran at my pace and kind of just stuck to him. Until I had to walk anyway lol.
