  1. Day one done. Both harder and easier than I thought it would be. Easier because any time I was ready to quit during the faster pace I could see it was almost over. Harder because I now know just how out of shape I am.

  2. Well the title is self explanatory I hope, I am female and decided to try the couch to 5k as a way of losing a bit of weight and toning up. I do a deep aqua swimming class once a week (think high impact aerobics in a diving pool with a float belt on) which lasts 45 minutes but have noticed that I put weight on far too easily these days! I found the first week relatively ok, today (day 3) was a bit tougher but I did it all the same. I am always surprised how the 8 run/walk cycles seem to go quicker than you realise. Here is to a weekend off, and start week 2 on Monday

    Yet another newbie ...

I started on Wednesday but couldn't finish so re-started Thursday, then did Day #2 today (Friday). I just noticed there are only 3 days in the training week. Am I supposed to run every day or alternate days? If it is alternate days? Do I rest 2 days between weeks or just continue with every other day?

  5. Beautiful encouragement Trish. Truths I am also able to apply and practice. I loved, "...a healthy lifestyle is a marathon not a sprint." <3 Hang in there Nadara! Keep us posted please, and congrats on completing day 1! You got out there .... that is a success! If I might offer a couple more thoughts (quotes of others) that have supported me: "Progress not perfection." "It is what we do most the time that counts, not some of the time."

  10. Azatol, thanks, and yes agreed. If I wasn't just following the app to ease back in to running to avoid shin splints, I would totally be relying on those walk rests. As it is, I'm probably about week 5 in ability, but am still taking it easy for my shins. Will definitely be using those full walks next week, though!

  19. Last (hopefully) rehab walk this morning. took the dog for two miles, with windchills in he upper teens. Certainly not as cold as some parts of the country, but pretty chilly. Good equipment helps, just having a skin-tight layer of UA or Nike under really helps to keep things warm. Taking tomorrow off (maybe a short walk or bike ride), a little stretching, then going to try to run a slow mile on Sunday. Fingers crossed the knee does not flare up, or it'll probably be a trip to the doc.

  20. Pics, great job getting started. And I really like your plan of walking the program once before getting into jogging it. Great idea!

  21. Just finished the last run for week 3 of 10K. WooHoo! Increased my pace, threw in extra runs during the longer walking portions, and tacked on 2 min to make it a 30 min workout. 2.5 miles each day. Feeling awesome and looking forward to attacking week 4!!

  25. I had always hated running. I've often told people if they words you ever see me running that they too should follow in suit & it could only mean one thing; Zombie Apocalypse. I also made mention that if my body were to ever be discovered on the jogging trail, one could be confident knowing that my body was drug to the location because I personally would not be there for leisure. Fast forward to 2013, a murdered friend, one nervouse breakdown, & one good look at a family photo & realized I looked like I had eaten a small child and was still in the process of digesting it. Had an epiphany while walking the Golden Gate Bridge with a friend & the next day started one block walking, one block jogging for the next week. One week later I returned to the Golden gate Bridge and Ran it the following week. It was the most excillerating experience I had ever had. 4 months & many miles later I lost 45lbs & was in the best shape of my life. Fast forward two years; I move to Fargo North Dakota from California. With a windchill my first Winter was -20 to -50. No sun, no socialization other than the drinking that takes place at small street fairs, SAD kicked in & I gained 35lbs over 7 months from inactivity. I just found this app two days ago which is perfect timing since I JUST quit smoking. Seems like the only thing that is helping me get through the anxiety and nervousness of the withdrawals is running.... And I hate running. I just hate the withdrawals & the feeling of not having any control while I am going through hell even more. Taking my life back one mile at a time, and who knows, maybe I'll like running, someday. Right now I finished w1d2 & can hardly breathe and it feels quite amazing actually. I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow. So those of you hard cores out there.... Any advice would be great for once I ready to brave the Fargo temps of -9 to -20 once I get my big girl panties on and step off the treadmill into the real world
