Brunikabubu
Hello everyone! I'm new on this forum but decided to write to get some help and motivation from you. Today I made through week 5 day 2, I thought I couldn't run 8 min, but I did! Yay... But next time is 20 min. How could you do it? I had never run before in my life and I'm overweight... 20 min seem veeeeeery long! Anyone had the same issue? Did you make it? How? I really want to make it, so any advice is welcome! Azatol
A couple things... First off know that this program is based on science. Your body IS ready to run 20 minutes. Youd mind is messing with you because it's lazy and doesn't want to. Trust me, You ARE ready. Take a look at this tip. It worked for me and many others. W5D3 is scary as all get out but everyone who finishes it says it was no big deal. You will say the same. PROMISE!! http://forums.zenlabsfitness.com/topic/1446-get-your-hands-off-that-phone/
Wendell
Azatol is absolutely right! Pace is key, but if you did 8, you can do 20. Don't focus on the time, and just go til she says stop, and don't quit!!

Don't focus on the time, and just go til she says stop, and don't quit!! Actually you didn't do 8. You did 21. It's been scientifically proven that run/walking has the exact same endurance training benefit as pure running. If you ran/walked 21, you can run 21!! That's why we train that way!! You already have the needed skills starsfellonal
Brunikabubu
Hi guys! Thank you all for your support, it really cheered me up! Thanks for sharing your tips with me. Unfortunately, I didn't make it I tried twice, but I just needed to stop and catch my breath after about 8 min. I walked for 1 min then started again, but had to stop again for another 2 min, both times. I tried to focus on the music, on nature, think that it was my mind trying to trick me, but just had to stop. Maybe it's because it is cold right now (I felt like I could run a little more at the end of the workout because my lungs were "warm" finally) or maybe just because I'm out of shape. What do you suggest that I do now? Should I keep trying with this day or can I go on with week 6 day 1? How do you usually get ready for the workout by the way? Once again, thanks for your support and tips! :*
Roman Soldier
I took 3 attempts but then finally got there just ran 3 minutes followed by 3 minutes etc, mentally it worked and I got there, slow and steady wins the race

Raingirl
Help! I'm stuck on this day. I can get through the 8s barely but I cannot physically finish the 20. I have a knee injury and after 10-12 minutes my knee says I'm done. Should I just keep doing the 8s or should I keep trying to do the 20? I've done it about six times and I'm getting very discouraged.
Rob129
Raingirl, can your physical therapist or Doctor help you? Running injured is tough and can be mitigated. I went to a sports medicine clinic where they analyzed by running gait, body geometry, core strength and flexibility. I've incorporated core strengthen into my weekly routine and it has made a difference with recovery a better running form. Also repeating and run/walking aren't bad!! Getting injured by pushing to fast or to hard is bad. Rob
Raingirl
My doctor has recommended strengthening my knee and I have exercises for it. I will just keep going with he 20 I guess and maybe soon I'll be able to finish it. I just shouldn't count or that will get me down! torus_ot

sarahtriesagain
I had this same problem (just posted about it elsewhere)! I just couldn't handle the 20 minutes straight. I suffered my way through 10, took a 2 minute break, and then did the last 10 minutes in two sets of 5. It was really brutal by the end and I felt like it was partially muscle fatigue, but also partially that I couldn't breathe fully. I think my body was in shock My question is how do I move forward from here? Do I keep attempting to do the 20 minute run until I actually finish it? Do i start week 5 again? Do i just move on to week 6 and hope the 22 minute one works out for me?
torus_ot
Sarah W5D3 is mostly mental problem. So, you have to trick yourself... I did it by running more then required in the previous days of the week 5. Distraction (music, TV, etc) could be helpful too. It is your choice... katdoc
I'm STUCK! I've tried this 20 min run day and then went backward. I really struggle with the 8 min and it says that my 8 min run should be 0.75 miles. I can't run the full 8 min and when I finish, my distance has only been 0.63 - 0.7 miles. I've attempted Wk 5 day 2 four times now and don't seem to be getting anywhere. I figure I shouldn't even try the 20 min run again if I can't do 8 min at a time and I am worried about not getting far enough. Just for background info: I'm 46 and have struggled with exercise through the later part of my life. Any additional advice?

Diane1965
I was very discouraged when I failed at the 20 min run so I took a few days off. Went back to gym and ran the week 5day2 again and it wasn't a problem. I have got to get over this bump...I registered for a 5k next month! I think I'll run day 2 again tomorrow then in Mon try day 3 again
