I don't understand w5d3...

It seems like the 20 minute run is kinda out of nowhere? Then it goes back down to running 5 and 8 minutes. How does this make any sense? It seems like W6D1 and W6D2 should be before w5d3.

It's all part of the science of building endurance. If you look at marathon training programs, every 4th week your long run gets shorter for that one week. All part of helping you body adapt and absorb the changes. The program is scientifically sound. You just nee fatih :)

Atamell. I did my run this morning. After the w5d2 run I was nervous. Going from 8 to 20 minutes I thought there was no way. But I completed it. In the accountability section I have been writing in there. It's titled w2d1. I do believe it really was a test of your mentality. Now that I know I can do the 20 minutes I feel anything is possible

I think the logic behind it is to prove that after all the previous trainings your body is more than ready for this, the following days are easier, I did it this morning, to be honest I didn't quite complete the challenge as apparently it's required to run 2 miles in those 20 minutes, but I kept it slow to avoid failure as I wasent sure my body could do it, after all I'm a first time ever runner, but in my defence it was in the mountains so there was hills and many rocks to step on.. Besides, as this app doesn't keep track on the distance I wasent sure what was expected, I used a separate app to track it, so now I know, I'll repeat w5d3 the day after tomorrow, my breathing seemed easy at the end but I did feel my legs very heavy, I don't know that I'll ever be able to run x4 that distance in one go

So I didn't run for 20 minutes.... I ran for 25!!! I felt so so good so I kept going. 25 minutes of running and 10 mins walking I was at 3.1 miles. So proud of myself! Now that I know I can do this I might not use the app anymore and just start building off the 25 minutes. So excited and proud! :D

I did the same thing but you should finish the program. Not because you need it but because completion will provide you an added sense of accomplishment. Running is 90% mental so personal accomplishments are wins!!

Don't be discouraged. Are you running out of breath? Are you legs cramping? How long are you running? I am currently on week seven, and I find that even if I finish the runs pooped, a half a minute of walking is all I need to regain my composure. If you can't get through the whole run, walk for 10 seconds or twenty and then carry on. 20 minutes is a long run and it's not easy after 5 and 8 minute runs. It's doable but not necessarily easy. You can also go back one day and see how easily you get through that day, after trying the twenty a few times. That will definitely propel you forward. Remember - it's very much a mind game...
