Karlaeliz
I am certainly not a runner but getting off the couch was really needed. I am trying to be motivated. Day 1 was not easy. I mean it was hard for sure. I need to feel satisfaction and accomplishment. I need it in my life so so bad. I also know the excess weight I have makes it even harder. I want to do this. I felt this forum would help me try. Azatol

Natcatvet
Hi. You WILL do this. I say this as I am 47, overweight and never run before this app. I'm on week 7. Yes my weight means I'm slow ..... But I'm building my endurance and fitness first - speed later. My tips: rejoice in each session. Repeat a session if you need. DONT watch the timer. Put on good motivating heart pumping music. And come here often, these guys keep me motivated !!! Good luck
Karlaeliz
Nat---thank you so much. I am turning 50 in December and need this so bad. I need to do something for ME. I want to feel proud instead of hiding. Feeling like this is lonely and uninspiring. I need to lose weight and get healthy. Seeing your message gave me courage and hope. You are awesome!!! I'm in awe -- 7 weeks. You go!!! How is it for you?
Ruthie
KarlaelizI am 48 and have just completed week 4. I identify with your unhappiness, since before i lost weight i was very unhappy with myself and uncomfortable in my body. I have never run before and somehow i manage to get through the sessions as they are served 2 me. Whoever designed this program knew their stuff... just trust in that and u will be fine... Natcatvet
Karlaeliz: I had to start repeating sessions about week 3-4 from memory. I'm pretty sure I'll be repeating week 7 although I'm getting thru it I'm very very slow. Where are you located? Finding a place and time you are comfortable to run (shuffle) helped me also, not worrying about bumping into anyone or worrying about what I looked like - I live in a country town so I choose to run 5.30-6am which is a KILLER because I am NOT a morning person - but I lay out my clothes and snack the night before (half a banana and water and coconut water) then I set my alarm. In the morning I just don't fart around - leap out of bed then drive to the outskirts of town to a very flat long road. Hardly any cars at that time of morning and I blare up my headphones with Meatloaf, Cher, Crowded house and other daggy 80s music and start. I just keep shuffling! But it's an awesome feeling to finish each session, small victories matter a lot. And it's great to hear the "1 minute left" announcement too! I'm happy to be your update support so keep me posted on your progress. You CAN do this! We WILL do this. You will start to get looser clothes but importantly you will feel much better and healthier even if you are slow like me. Endurance first. Speed later. Tell me how you next session went Karlaeliz

Natcatvet
Kellyann I've done week 7 day 2 . Just noticing it seems from now it is just building up from 25 to 28 to 30 mins. I feel my endurance is going ok like I can finish each session but oh my god I'm so slow !!!!! I really want to aim to do a 5km fun run next year but if I am for this I don't want to take 50 mins to finish it!!! Do you think March is a good aim to register for my first 5km? And do you think the 10km app would help me achieve my goal? Rob129
Killian94
I just finished day 2 week one also! I'm with you!
Jeshi
Welcome, Karlaeliz. How is your progress? @Natcatvet, wait until you finish the 5K app, then do speed intervals. Choose your interval time and run faster or sprint on the quick interval and slow and easy run on the slow interval. An example would be going back to Week 1 Day 1 and sprinting during the 60 second runs and running during the 90 second walks. Please wait until you finish the app first. Get your endurance up to at least 30 minutes before you work on speed. Of course, if the above technique is too challenging, you can try sprinting for 15 seconds, and run for 5 minutes or whichever pattern works best for you! Natcatvet
Yes I think I will be slow to finish anyway the 5k app and I'll just work on interval spurts after that
Kenneth
I just finished week 1 day 2. My son (10) is my motivation. I used to be athletic, now my nickname is BBFD, big bad fat dad. Never really bothered me, but as my kids get bigger unfortunately so am I. He said he would do this with me, but dang it boy, can't you tell I can't breath, much less talk! I need to complete this. I owe my kids that much, to remain a SUPER HERO! Wendell
Anne Lang
You can do this each day gets easier. Put a rest day inbetween each run day repeat days if you need to untill you feel like you nailed that work out. Google some strength training excersizes that you can do at home on the off running days. There are lots of tips on breathing and form on these forums and on the web. I cant wait to start reading about your progress. It is good to have a runnning budy glad your boy will do this with you
Wendell
Kenneth, honestly, that's why I'm doing it, too. I'm 44 myself, and my son discovered he loved running cross country this fall. Made varsity as a freshman. So I decided I'm going to run and help him train. He's on crutches for a couple more weeks, so between his setback, and my running through the winter, I'm hoping to be able to stick with him in the spring
Photoyogi24
Excellent, keep at it! The hardest part is starting! If you ever feel de-motivated, just remember that it does get easier. I find that starting new workouts takes me about 2 weeks to really get in to, and then if I skip days I feel awful (physically and guilty). It is so rewarding though! Wendell
I'm gonna try! He runs a 5k in around 19:00 though, but I'm sure he'll back it down for the old man lol

Tyler
You can do it! We're doing it together! I just did day 1 today. Day 2 is tomorrow. I'm training for a half marathon that's mid-March. Day 1 was tough, but if we stick to it we'll be ready. Good luck! Anne Lang
