Well here we goi! This will be my accountability log. I figured I'd start it out with a bit of a bio and where I'm at.  I'll add my first run today...

The name is actually Mike. My parents weren't cruel enough to name me Azatol. I drive a desk for a living. I test computer software used in the financial industry. It's a very "sit on your butt" type job. I'm a 47(Ok next week I will be) year old bachelor who spent 46 years being lazy. In 2014 I started my transformation and have lost 88 pounds. I eat Paleo, lift weights, walk 10 thousand + steps a day and now I run too. I feel better about myself and finally feel comfortable in my own skin.

I've completed up to Week 6 Day 1. Today will be W6D2 marking the last time I get a walking break. I'm actually excited about this. I've been walking for years and consider my training with that to be pretty much done <G>

So my biig why for running: it's not to lose weight. I've achevied all that before running. It's not to save money on gas. This one is easy. Tried a 30 second sprint on a treadmill and gained instant joy from it. I've been running ever since. In the 2 months I've been running I've yet to say "Ugh, I gotta go run". It's always more like "Just one more hour and I get to run!!" So when you ask me how hard of a battle it has been and I tell you it's been fairly easy, understand it's actually been quite a challenge but it's a labor of love and something you enjoy is always easier to do :)

So without further delays, and in the all mighty words of my ancestoirs....

GRONK RUN!!

It was chilly, windy, dark, gloomy, damp, and I enjoyed every minute of it!! Week 6 Day 2 is in the books. No more walking breaks.

I actually had a rather difficult time today. My calves were really upset and the last leg of my run was directly into a headwind. We made it. I'm ready to advance to the next level. Gonna run a few errands ( gotta meet my free range egg supplier ) and then it's off to the gym. Squat day!!

FIGHT!!

Azatol, I love the attitude of looking forward to every run. I can't say that I've always felt that way, but I have certainly developed that love in the past few months. Keep up the good work, and keep us updated.

I wish my attitude were actually that great but it's not. I don't need to run. I gain all I need from diet and lifting. Running is pure entertainment for me. It's like looking forward to going bowling or playing volyball or Forza 4 on Xbox 360. I'm just excited for my entertainment <G>

How did I miss this? Nevermind I found you lol

Awesome outlook. Can't wait till I start to look forward to a run. I know it will come because I have had it before.

Congratulations on completing Week 6 Day 2! You must be a born runner, much better than being a gamer (xbox/ps4 etc) lolI really must find out more about Paleo, it has cropped up a lot just lately!

Squat day......you are going to feel draggy tomorrow lol

Some days you're the windshield and some days you're the bug. Unfortunately, I was the bug today.

Shoulder has been botherring me for weeks. It's getting worse. Doctor said I injured something up around my traps. Most upper body stuff is now a now a no for possibly up to a month. Also on prescription NSAIDS. This throws a serious monkey wrench in my learning to perform the clean and jerk :(

I'm down but I'm not out. I can still run, squat, push ups, planks, lunges and possibly deadlift. FIGHT!!

That you are focused on what you can do totally keeps me motivated -pressing on in spite of and because of!!!  WayHAY to go Azatol!   Yep, I wanna be like you when I grow up! teehee   Keep at it!  I hope to hear what you can continue to work on even if it is not running :)   On the bright side, *Cheshire cat grin*  ... it gives us newbies a chance to catch up to you! LOL

Week 6 is done!

22 minutes was not so bad but it was a rough day. Low 30s. Windchill galore. Second half was running into a brisk headwind rolling off the Ohio. UGH. But we did it because i FIGHT!!

12 minute pace but we will shore up the numbers after I finish the program

Very easy lifting day.

3 sets of 5 @135lb Deadlifts

3 sets of reverse crunches x10

Week 7 day 1 done deal!

It was tough. Very tough. 18 degrees out and breezy on the river(as always). I had breathing issues. The wind was too cold on my face for the first 10 minutes and everytime I pulled my balaclava up over my nose and mouth I felt like I was fighting for air. Had to put it up, down, up, down until i warmed up and took it off. Body stayed fine with 3 layers plus a UA Hoodie and 2 layers on the bottom. On the last 5 minutes I was really fighting. Huffin and puffin and fighting but I WON! Today marks my breaking through the 2 mile barrier ( for the running portion )! Still had fun.

Bench Press: Per the doctor, no benching over 100 until my shoulder heals. 95 pounds hurt bad. Did 45 pounds(bar weight) for 5 sets of 10 to keep my musles loose and range of motion

Barbell Squats: 3x5 @155lbs

Push Ups:: could only do 7 before the pain set in. Need more shoulder rest I guess.

Planks: 3x:30

Awesome Azatol!  From 1 minute runs/2 minute walks in W1D1, to running 2 miles in W7D1 ... I'd say that's a hella good FIGHT!  Right on!  I'm curious if you have noticed any difference in mindset in regards to where you were when you began W1D1 and where you are today having achieved W7D1?

Kind of? I have gone from "I'm going to run today" to "I can't wait to run today" but the dedication, perseverence and confidence were there before I started them. Beasting my medical problems and losing well over 80 pounds already had my mental game right where I needed it.

Guest TrishE

I cannot stress how important the mental aspect of getting healthy is. Oddly enough to me thats a lot harder than any of the working out and the dieting. There were so many days...still are...where my crazy comes out and gets the better of me. yesterday was one of those days. Sometimes its good because it can motivate you to push yourself harder in your workouts but sometimes its so hard to climb over that "THIS IS POINTLESS!"  hill. Luckily reading through these forums can help with that :)

It's kind of funny Trish. One day I just went SNAP and changed. I was talking to a friend at work telling him I've reached a plateau in weight loss from walking. He told me strength training is where it's at. So I went home and started googling and I found this article(which I consider a life changing blog post)....

http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/

By the time I got to the end and read all the tabs I opened from links within, I was on a mission. I dove in head first on Paleo and Strength training and I've had wind filling my sails ever since. Discovered running and once again, GERONIMO!

Azatol, that 'snap' I can relate to so well, (with BFL).  I changed my diet and exercise on day 1 and with the exception of getting sick for a week, (mid way through) ... I stuck with it for 84 days - did not waver.  It was a life-affirming/life-changing journey for me.  It feels that way now.

So silly, even as I wrote that last thought, I paused and a silly niggling voice popped in and said, "Don't jinx yourself!"   Oh brother! Ignoring that one LOL

Don't know that I can help much, as I'm the complete opposite; aches and pains running on concrete, but fine on tm.. One thing I do know is that my ankles, knees, hips, etc. all feel really stiff and achy on the tm if I don't stretch well beforehand. Two schools of thought on stretching before a workout, not sure which you subscribe to, but it definitely makes a huge difference for me. Hope you find a solution!

I'm in the "it's bad" school but  do warm up before I run. 10 body weight squats, 10 fence steppers (each leg), 10 forward leg swings (each leg), 10 Sideways leg swings (each leg), 10 lunges (each leg).

Oh the pain!!! Not so much froim the run but the workout after, /Cry HAHAHAHA

Week 7 Day 2 in the books. it was a fight as always but I won!

This was a roulette challenge. 5 exercises plus a sixth "Burn a card". You start the stopwatch and roll a 6 sided die. It tells you which exercise you must do. Draw a card off the deck and that's the number of reps. When you roll a 6 you get to burn the top card and draw another. Below is the total reps of each of the items I did. My time was 14m 26s. I would not reccomend this workout, HAHA

1: Planks: :52

2: Kettlebell Swing: 41

3: Squats: 67

4: Jumping Jacks: 84

5: Assisted Split Squat: 102 (cry)
