Got weighed today and I surprised myself! Only put on half a pound over Christmas! Even with the pizza!

Missy, you can do this. Don't beat yourself up if you didn't have the ideal day. You were out there, and your were cognizant of what you want to do and where you want to go. Be patient and trust yourself! Great job!

Missy, you got out there! THAT is a SUCCESS!  And those successes (walking or jogging) will add up little by little. <3  Right on pampering yourself with a yummy sweet potato and hot bath!

You're doing great! We all have days that disappoint us; how we deal with it can determine how successful we are. Don't let it get to you - one day at a time, one step at a time  I hope you didn't beat yourself up too badly about the pizza either...it happens. The important thing is you are making an effort and are recognizing what's healthy for you...and the rest of the day you did great with your food! That cottage pie sounds yummy!

    Wow Missy,
I'm impressed with you. Being able to post your bodily measurements, in a coed forum shows bravery and dedication. You may not realize it but your a woman who's (at least partly)comfortable in her own skin. I do the same on my fitness forums but it's a men only forum. I'm no longer self conscious about it though.

Add in that your a mom, wife and pushing for an education. You're a woman chock full of dedication. I'm confident that we will watch those numbers shrink. The only numbers I expect to increase are the size of your smile, your endurance and your confidence.

You have a recipe for success. I'll be watching this one!

That speed seemed tolerable for now I am a female age 54 and have a bout 50 pounds to lose is there a set rate we should be running out on a treadmill? thank you so much everyone sorry if my question seems ignorant I have some health issues and need to get this right.

That's right. 2015 is not the year for IFs.

It's not IF you will change your diet, it's WHEN
It's not IF yoiu will run a 5k, it's WHEN
It's not IF you will feel better about yourself it's WHEN

IF you have the mental fortitude to forge ahead with this change, you will know it was the right decision WHEN you see the results <G>

I just downloaded this app and my fitness pal. It's all a but overwhelming as I have never really been able to stick with a workout longer then a week. I'm ready for a life change that I will be able to keep. I never exercise and eat what I want. I joined a gym and have been getting healthy meal ideas. I am overweight and just ready to be healthy and have some energy, I have two girl, a 10 year old and a 7 month old so finding time for myself isn't easy. I've decided this is something I'm gonna do for myself and my "me" time will be focusing on working out. I have a very supportive husband as well. Wish me luck on this new journey!

I just downloaded this app. It seems great for having others to chat with about your process! Tonight once I get time to myself I will be starting week 1 day 1. I have a 10 year old and a 7 month old so I'm gonna have to start making time for myself to get healthy. I turn 30 on Thursday and want to start my 30s out right!

In regards to "any helpful thoughts" ...
Not sure this will help, yet I can share from personal past and present experience:
    1) When my life-numbing voice spoke up:
    "don't feel like it today"
    "turn around... return"
    "I can't ..."
"this is too hard, too early, too late, too tired, too busy"  [etc...]
"your not as young as you used to be Shannon"  [eye-roll]
"I'll start Monday <insert whatever day it is for you here>"  [my popular go too]
EDIT during my W1D2 run today: "I don't have the right running outfits/gear! I look ridiculous."  [am I running naked? No! Are you warm?  Yes! Well then. hush, and carry on!].  ... made myself laugh at me today! LOL
Push past.   It is as simple as that.  Once I pushed back once, the second time became easier and that adds up. Also committing to the same time each day supported me in staying on track. When I experienced a setback and could not follow through, I'd simply run later that day, or skipped and picked up the next day. "Progress not perfection".

    2) I learned that there is a world of support present everywhere, outside home, and it's up to me to simply reach out - either at a gym, or online, (no matter where we struggle there are groups out there to support - online and offline). I have only to open myself up and jump in.  The really cool thing?  When I jumped in ... people jumped in to support me AND eventually, so too did my family.

As far as running at night ... what works best for you? When is it most convenient? When do you feel the most inspired?   I prefer early morning - I love being a part of nature waking up, and seeing folks heading into work. I also enjoy how it defines my morning and sets the tone for the rest of the day for me.  I've noticed just as many who love; who are invigorated by an afternoon or late evening run!

ps.  I'm getting back in the saddle again too.  I am returning to what worked in the past for me, AND also adding in the new. Mainly, I am determined to re-connect and stay connected.  Can't wait to see what I learn this go-round!

New to running again after 20 years (just turned 40), life, kids, major knee injuries, etc. Going to take it slow and try to listen to my body, but it's hard when your body says "go back!! Go back!" How do you get past that and a unhelpful bipolar hubbie? I want to di this! I have this crazy dream if running a Disney half marathon someday. I would love to run with my 6 1/2 yr old boy who has done and liked the kiddos "final mile" & really liked running. He's ADHD and activity it's wonderful for him. Anyone got any helpful thoughts for all or some of this.

Oh no! I hope you recover quickly, but take your time getting back. The last thing you want to do is try to get back to quick, compensate for a sore ankle and injure something else. I just tweaked my knee this morning on my final training run before my first 10K on Thursday. I'm hoping I just need a day and a half of rest of be good to go!

w5d3 has been staring me down for a while looking like a 20 foot tall frightening beast. I repeated w5d1 and d2 twice to build endurance. Tonight I went for it. I decided that the best way to slay the beast was to establish a conservative pace that maybe didn't get me two miles in distance but got me thru twenty minutes in time. End result, I did 1.8 miles in 20 minutes and slated Goliath on the clock. Didn't stop once in the 20 minutes and according to my meter kept a pretty consistent pace. My legs aren't shot. I feel pretty good physically tonight, mentally I feel very good about myself. I'm quickly going from a "never ran" to an "I can do this".

I'm staring week six in the eyes and for the first time since starting I don't feel intimidated.

Jay, it happens quite a bit. Getting started can be the hardest part, but it's like any exercise, your body needs to adjust and grow stronger. Keep doing day one until you can complete it, then move on to day two. This might happen during a number of the weeks throughout the program, but there is nothing wrong with that. Just keep working at it! Good luck.

It's okay - we all get frustrated with ourselves every now and then. Forgive yourself for quitting and tell your thoughts "never again." Have you tried listening to your favorite music while running? My brain HATES to run, and I always have to trick myself into continuing and not giving up on myself. I've found distraction with my favorite songs or a good audio book usually help. Or even find a running buddy you can trust to push you just enough to keep you going.

Could be something going on with your circulation. Since you've already tried getting better shoes, I suggest 1) try a workout on the treadmill and see if the same thing happens, and 2) go back to the shoe store where you got fitted to see what they might suggest. If neither of those work, go visit your doc to rule out anything serious. I had this happen to me before while doing some at-home workouts and it was my shoes :\ Hope you get it figured out soon! Keep us posted.
