Just finished c25k
Michholl4 reacted to Friend2most for a topic
I just finished the eight week program. I am going to restart it again and this time incorporate hills. This is an awesome program! I was not able to get to a 10 minute mile but I believe that is ok. I finished a 5k in 44:44. Which is awesome for me! I have also lost 30ld in these last two months.1 point -

Using the app - how frequently should you run?
Bstern reacted to hoping_to_run for a topic
Hi, I downloaded the app, and today was Week 1 Day 3. I've been running every day for the last 3 days. Question is, I notice on the app, the next option is W2D1: so I wonder how many days a week we are supposed to run per the app? Should I just continue doing the same thing for the rest of the week, giving a day of rest? Or, am I supposed to run every other day and then a day of rest? Appreciate feedback from people who've been on this longer than I have :-) Thanks!1 point -

flat footed/plantar facilities

Hi John thank you for your reply, I too had bought everything I'm told its supposed to help with this including special shoes but nothing worked as expected. I will have to find me a podiatrist. Thanks gain ;-)1 point -
hi! Maizie.. Upper body strength training won't make you big, it will give you lean muscles. there are plenty of exercises available online on upper body with or without weights, you can use stretchable bands, kettle bell or just dumbbells, of course you have to watch what you eat! there isn't anything like spot reduction.1 point

Hey Linda, I have flat feet and had the same pain as you. The only thing that worked for me was seeing a podiatrist and getting orthotics. The Dr Schols stuff did nothing for me. Depending on your insurance, they might cover them 100%1 point

I too just downloaded this app and am not a runner yet. I want to run a 5k by my 55th birthday in March. It's on my bucket list and I need motivation and a kick in the pants. I can walk the 5k but I want to run it. Maybe moving to 10k by 57. Thank you. Looking forward to my feet running soon.1 point -

Hi , I have just downloaded the c25k app and am now terrified I have made this step. I am 54, obese and an avid couch hugger but have decided my life is passing me by and I am so unfit I don't know how to recover myself. I overheard someone talking about the app and a wee lightbulb came on in my head and I decided to give it a go......I think I have gone mad !! Not sure where to start....should I buy running shoes straight away , do I need Lycra ( omg I don't think the world is ready for a shock like that ) do I actually have to run on day one ...I don't usually walk never mind run. What do I need with me ..water, face wipes, sweat band , emergency whistle , flares ??? Oh lord , what have I let myself in for !!!1 point -

Hi, Use the app as a guide and personalize to your own schedule and health. My work schedule dictates a bit along with travel, etc..... I do not run more than every other day and due to my schedule skip on Fridays to run on Saturdays. As you mention.....the longer runs in there become a 'time' issue for me. My week consistently is: M, Wed, Sat - Run with the app. T, Thur, Fri, = cross train....a walk, yoga, weight training, swimming, etc... and then one full day of rest...usually Sunday, but, I do some yoga that day as well. Personalize the app to your schedule, but, you can't go wrong with recovery days. On a day where a long run was dictated....I couldn't finish and had a "do-over" ....so many elements go into a good run and a bad run, LOL.....I've been doing this for awhile now and I'm finding food, hydration, etc... are all become significant to the process. Good luck and know it's your timetable and schedule!1 point

I have been wondering the same thing! I've been running every other day, without taking the extra day off. That has me at the middle of "week 8", but in reality I've only been running for just over 6 weeks. It's worked out fine for me, but I might consider taking that extra day off (skip a day between runs, skip an extra day between "weeks") as the runs are getting longer.... The best advice I've gotten is the "listen to your body" advice!1 point

does anyone run with a water bottle? Or have some sort of contraption that straps one to you? Do people just run while holding it? There is a water fountain on the running path by my house, but it stopped working... Trying to figure out the logistics of staying hydrated on my runs!1 point
-
I actually just discovered a running belt that has 2 holders for water bottles, and a pocket for keys, phone, etc, but it's super light weight. I've used it 3 times so far, and it's pretty good! I wish the water bottles were bigger, but I'll work on that later.1 point

I run with a slim fanny pack (to hold my phone and keys) and tuck the water bottle in the back using the belt to hold it. And before I had the Fannypack I just used to put the bottle in my back using my pants to hold it.1 point

Running with water?
Bstern reacted to Jorge Gonzales for a topic
I carry my water along, whether I am running on the treadmill or down the lane in my town. Its important to carry the water along while running. you can run while holding it. Its comfortable to run like that.1 point -
I always have my water with me, but ... I do this on the treadmill1 point

Running with water?
Bstern reacted to Run4FunRun4Life for a topic
I occasionally do. But I run with it in my hands so it's actually not very efficient...other times I have water waiting for me when I go a lap. That's easier for me. However I run in my neighborhood so it's not necessarily practical unless you do as well. If you run on trails and things of that sort, then it might would be best to carry one or possible carry it in a backpack. The extra weight would make it harder to run, however it would help you in the long run. (Pun not intended)1 point -
