Jorge Gonzales
Great information.. Your running technique is totally dependent on your posture and good mental focus. The efficiency of your running technique is directly proportional to the quality of your posture. Good posture involves having a reasonably straight spine with not too much straightness and not too much bend. The more you slump, the more your body's muscles need to work to hold you upright. Poor posture not only restricts the circulation of blood to your muscles and organs but also inhibits the oxygen supply to your brain. Riverotter
"you want to make sure your legs are in such a position that your foot lands directly over your toes." What the heck does that mean? granolagirl23, Tammy Rivera, Smitty.Nik and 2 others 4
Alyse
These are awesome tips! I have noticed when I am slouched over more the harder it is so now I try to take a minute before to take some deep breaths and get my posture right! Tammy Rivera
I know, right! "you want to make sure your legs are in such a position that your foot lands directly over your toes." What the heck does that mean?
Crabapple
I agree. I don't think it's good to land on your toes, if that's what they mean. I've read that it's good to land lightly on the ball of your foot, that heel strikes are not good and can lead to injury. Also, that a person should take shorter strides, in essence, falling forward with your body over the foot as it hits the pavement or ground. Crabapple
Of course, you are not really falling. You are running.
CoachRPhD
Yeah, I think perhaps it meant to land on the ball of the foot. As a coach, I've seen some of my runners land more on their toes. Sometimes, because they've been running or walking like this since they've were young children, it's not something that's fixed, nor does it really need to be fixed since their entire body has adjusted to this style of walking/running. More importantly is that the foot is somewhat aligned to your hips and body when it strikes the ground. Crabapple

Twosofas
A gait analysis thru my local runner’s store and another at a Physical Therapist’s office was extremely helpful and showed me exactly what I needed to correct. I didn’t know what I was doing incorrectly until I saw it in slow motion from a video recorded while running. Crabapple
