  6. Hi there, Go to MyFitnessPal, Go to Apps and Devices, You can then see the apps you can sync with. It syncs with the cs5k app, not the 10k one yet. Hope this helps.
  7. LOL, yes Farmgirl, PAY not Play, I thought when i downloaded it asked me about $9.99 a month, I will check again. I did install the app Pandora and gosh that was so nice yesterday listening to music, makes for a better workout. My 10k app does prompt over the music which I love. I love the Map My RUn app as well, so I can see how far I go. I like it that they can run in the background now.

    Stretching

Hi there, Congrats on pushing through. Never ever stretch when your muscles are cold. You definitely need to warm up properly before stretching. A popped muscle is 6 weeks of layups, uuggh, I have been there, done that. You need to Focus on stretching the major muscle groups used in running -- the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteals and hip flexors -- and incorporate movements that also warm up the abdominal, back and calf muscles. Most experts agree that dynamic stretches (stretches that incorporate movement and take your joints through their full range of motion) are better for pre-run warm-ups than static still stretches that you hold for extended periods of time. Static still stretching is best when you are warmed up. I like the movement in Dynamic Stretching better. I have taught fitness classes for years and the old way was warm-up, stretch, work out, it changed over the years, to where now, we warmup, workout and then stretch. If you can run comfortably without injury then you do not need to stretch before. Now, If I feel something tightening while I am working out , then I do stop and stretch that area. Hope this helps.
  9. Hi AJ, Thanks for serving our country. We appreciate it! The apps are awesome, which one are you starting with? I am on Week 2, Day 3. Love it. What other fitness do you do?

  11. Hey, How is everyone doing? With you there Empress, I am doing it too, So motivated here. I am on Week 2, Day 2 of the 10k app. I am loving it, where are you on it? Let's Do It!!
  12. Hey Farmgirl, So, do you have to play for Google Play? I thought we did.
  13. Hi, Great advice everyone. Taken off of Harvard.edu website: "Shallow breathing hobbles the diaphragm’s range of motion. The lowest portion of the lungs — which is where many small blood vessels instrumental in carrying oxygen to cells reside — never gets a full share of oxygenated air. That can make you feel short of breath and anxious. Deep abdominal breathing encourages full oxygen exchange — that is, the beneficial trade of incoming oxygen for outgoing carbon dioxide. Not surprisingly, this type of breathing slows the heartbeat and can lower or stabilize blood pressure." Most of us do not breathe deep enough at all. I like to breathe deep through my diaphragm, hold, release, many times during the day, you can feel the oxygen in your blood. I set a reminder during the day to do this. Oxygenated Blood=Weightloss!!!!
  14. Hi There Samisosa, You can do it. Start slow, if you cannot run when it tells you too, then don't. You know your body, if you walk, you walk, no big deal, if you want to repeat days, then do. You are taking the first step, one in front of the other. Do not be nervous, Just do it! We are all here cheering you on! Keep us posted.
  15. Hi Angie, Lyn and Sarah, way to go , you are all doing amazing. We can do this, it does become addicting. Feeling great!

    Weight loss

I hate weighing myself on the scales. I will weigh when my pants fall off. LOL, i rarely weight myself. Before and after pics are the way to go. Muscle weighs more, so any weight gain is surely muscle. I go by how my clothes feel. Awesome for you RMama.

Welcome Lyn, And Congrats on your new journey. Very happy for you, It sure is a motivator for me too.. Keep it up and ask questions!
  18. Hi Eva, Yes start off slow with this app and please check with your Dr first.
  19. Hi There, Most people start with the 5k app first, but if you can already run a 9 minute mile, you might want to start with the 10k app, it is what I am doing. You seem like your are a little more advanced. It is totally up to you as where to begin? There is also a 13.6 app you can start with too, but I would begin with the 10k and graduate from there. The C25k app is for total beginners! I am so in love with these apps, I worked out to there AB workout one too this am. Good Luck
  20. Hey Sure Michele, My Cavegirlcancook.com has some recipes on it. I am lucky now that it is just my hubby and i have to cook for and he will eat anything. But I totally understand you when it ocmes to cooking for your family. Picky eaters I never had to deal with, noone cooking, i so have had to deal with that, lol. Especially when you have to work, then come home and cook, grrrrrr.. lol. I am hypoglycemic, so I have to eat or I will get really ill. I am not a sugar fan at all, also makes me ill. I am a protein girl all the way, so the Paleo is a breeze for me. Why I can tolerate alcohol is beyond me. WHICH, btw, is a no no now as I am on a huge exercise kick. SOOOO, ( I am not a DR.), but do you take insulin or no? Is yours mostly controlled by what you eat? I do check my insulin levels myself here and there, so do you? Give me an idea so I know. Now, I love grilling some meats, throwing on veggies. Now for the family, I added rice or potatoes. I am not a fan, so that was easy for me. BBQ meats is the best or smoking. We have a Traeger smoker/ grill that I love.... Crockpots are awesome, so many recipes out there. I do a roast (i think its on my site), that is beef , soy sauce, water, beef stock that is to die for, I make tacos out of it, you name it. So you mention picky eaters???, like, you make something and they turn their noses up at it?? Uh, whatever is on the table in my house, is what they get, they don't like it, too bad. Sorry, that is how I felt. Then they cook for themselves. Of course, I always wanted to make my family happy so i cooked a lot of what they wanted, but there were times I did not like what I cooked either, like , I am not a fan of stir frys back then, now I LOVE them, but I would just separate my food and I was fine. I know, I am weird. Our favorite lunch now is I take chicken thighs, fry them up on the griddle, throw on veggies and teriyaki sauce or soy sauce and lunch, yum. Low sugar/Low sodium kind. I love meat rollups, ham, turkey, cheese, delish. String cheese, low sugar jerky, Natural Peanut butter on celery, boiled eggs, bacon, yes bacon, turkey breast I like cold rather than chicken. Does this help? throw anything my way. HUgs Kelly
  21. Hey Samantha, Love love your determination. Good for you. Don't let anyone get in your way. Ever. Keep pushing on. Vary your workouts and def run outside, don't let anyone make fun of you when you workout. Just smile and wave. Once you wrok out and you see the results, that is the biggest motivator. Good luck.
  22. Hi there, Up to you where to begin. If you can already run one mile without stopping, you might want to start with the 10k app. But you can graduate quickly from the 5 k app and then move on. The 5 k app syncs after your run. Keep me posted where you begin. Good luck.

    Weight loss

I think you have to make a playlist in your main music like iTunes or Google. I just moved to the Galaxy s5, so I have no music yet. I carried an iPod, my phone and my gear live watch. Not easy, ended up leaving the iPod and running with no music. Uh, no fun. But Im hoping so,wine can help us there. I need it too. Btw, you are doing great , I'm with you in the weightloss too. I want to lose some too and get in shape. We can do it.
