Need to get in shape
Crabapple and one other reacted to Runner in training for a topic
I am trying to get into running because I do many other sports and need to get in shape for them. I play lax and soccer both which require a lot of running. I also do wrestling - even though I am a girl - and that requires a lot of endurance I'm hoping to get better at running.2 points -
Silver Pie That's what I'm hoping too. She actually took me off of the diuretic because I was so dizzy I had to leave work one day. I am down about 10 lbs already (helped by drastic water loss but I'll still take it) and I can feel improvements in my flexibility and my stamina. I will argue my case for getting off the pills again at the 25lbs lost mark.2 points

My goals for 2019 1). To continue my weight loss journey with the goal of losing 10lbs per month or 100lbs total for the year 2). Continue to develop and grow the love that I have for myself 3). To complete at least thee 5k walks or runs for charities I support 4). To meditate and pray daily, along with becoming more involved in my church and scripture readings 5). To just be happy and to live my life to the fullest.2 points

Dear MellowYellow,, Welcome! I also joined up to drop some weight. I was doing great 6 years ago and had completed 2 5ks but life stuff happened and I ended up gaining all my former weight back. I think also that it was a bit of "resting on my laurels" because I had accomplished my goal of a 5k race. So now I am back with a bigger goal, a 10k. And again life is interfering a bit with back and medication issues, but I really think the key is to dust yourself off and keep going toward your goals. You can do it!!! and when you do, immediately start thinking about your next goal so your focus is on the journey forward always heading for that next bigger goal.2 points

I read the last part and just started cracking up! I can just see me stripping off layers as I near the finish LOL I decided on a thin base layer, long sleeve t shirt and my north face. Bottoms are my leggings. And kilt of course lol2 points

Good Luck! You can do this. I really like the idea of a back back for layers. Or, my cousin the marathon runner says, "wear old clothes as outer layers and don't worry about getting them back."2 points
-
Definitely layers. Maybe a backpack to carry any layers you take off?2 points

On some thread that I can't find now, I posted that coffee leaches calcium from one's bones. Turns out that the amount is negligible. (Sorry for the large font below. It's a copy and paste from an email I sent this morning.) If 1-2 tablespoons of milk offsets the negative effects of caffeine/coffee, then it really is nothing to worry about, so I'm back with drinking coffee on my run days. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/12204390/2 points

This weekend I’m participating in a 5K/Guinness World Record Kilt Run. I’m excited and nervous too! I need some good vibes my way! My goal is to finish ahead of my 5K I was in this past Thanksgiving. I won’t “run” the whole thing but I sure hope to finish with some good stretches of running. Please! Send those positive vibes my way1 point

Thank you but I dont see myself as better than anyone. My competition is me.1 point

The big show for me I am hoping is the Turkey Trot this year on Thanksgiving. Last year it was my first ever 5K and even though I walked it, that race was what put me on this path. I did run the last 50 yards. My cousin’s son was waiting for me after he had finished. He ran up next to me and said “come in finish big” and he ran with me across the line. It was awesome!1 point

Weightloss and Park runs.
GinaH reacted to Mellow yellow for a topic
I've joined up to lose some weight, I've put on around 40lbs since my wedding in 2017 and need to sort myself out to get in better shape, I've done casual runni g before but never kept it up, hopefully c25k can keep me on track. I'm sound 207lbs now and looking to get down to 160ish and get some regular park runs in over summer. I'm a bit of a yoyoer so really going to give this my best shot.1 point -
Well when I completed the 5k courses It was still at least 1/3 walking. but I came in the second time 5 minutes faster than my first so I am very proud of that. I did 2 11 minute miles then I got tired and finished with a 16 minute mile and a sprint at the end for the camera lol! I found that a cheering crowd and a big timer staring at me motivates me to dig for that last bit of energy at the end. The tee shirt is also a bit of proof you can wear afterward to show the world what you've accomplished. I highly recommend signing up for at least one official road race as you finish your training program. It's like the show to all of your rehearsals.1 point

Week 1 day 2 Yesterday I did day 2 of week 1 on my elliptical. First I didn't want to do it because I'm not a very sportive person but I am glad that I did it. I want to finish this program on my elliptical. Maybe when I lose some weight and my body is in better shape I will going to like sport but for now it's still difficult. I feel like I have no energy. But I will finish it. And I'm trying to eat as healthy as possible. Well tomorrow I will do day 3. Kamille.1 point

Kamille, Good for you! I did 5 mins on the elliptical stair stepper this week and I thought I was going to die!! I don't know why but the elliptical machines feel so much harder to me than walking, so you have my respect doing it that way. Keep it up. We can do this!!1 point

I’ve read in more than one place that a cup of coffee in the morning before a workout/run is a lot of people’s “go to”. I don’t think an 8 ounce cup of coffee is a problem. It’s a problem if it’s more like pots of coffee or massive sized cups with tons of sugary additives. I vote to stick with the morning jo1 point

lol yes! I really did. Got them at Marshalls so you know they were a bargain1 point

Thanks for posting that. That's very encouraging to all of us who struggle to keep the pace that the c25k wants us to keep.1 point

Good vibes coming your way. I hope it warms up a little there. For us, today makes two days in a row that we had sun. That hasn't happened for maybe a month or more.1 point

With the weather coming in looking more like a polar bear run!1 point

I think they recommend that you can start about that week since you've already run a lot. If you do that week and it's too easy, then just skip forward again. If it's a little bit hard then you could just go back a week.1 point

Today begins week 6 for real. I tried week 4 day 1, but running 3 minutes, then 5 minutes was too much. I stopped the run, reset it, then finished it doing day 1 week 1. The upside is that that day was a lot easier this time around. When I began the first time, I couldn't run for a whole minute more than once iirc. Today's run (after I reset the app) was almost easy. I think part of why it's taking me so long is that I'm running up hills during the first half of the run. Not super steep, and not tall at all, but enough so I have to work harder. I could start in the direction that is downhill, but then I'd be running uphill when I'm tired. I can do this. WE can do this!1 point

Training for 10K

Just completed Week 10 day 1. I move fairly slowly but am amazed that combining the Running with the walking and warm-ups, I did 5 miles. Whoever thought that I could do 5 miles.1 point -

I've never been a runner, but recently it occurred to me that if I can walk three or four miles I could probably learn to run it. So I decided to shoot for a 5K run that is in my local area near the end of April. I may become a runner yet.1 point
-
I’m so excited for you! I remember the first time (5 years ago) I learned that I could run. It was amazing to me! Congratulations on giving it a try! I am also planning to run in a 5k at the end of April. This will be my 5th time doing this race but I wouldn’t really consider myself a runner. I use the race as motivation to get back outside and do some walk/jog laps. So, here I am again trying to jumpstart myself to get back out there. This is my first time using the c25k program. I just started this week so I’m ready today for w1d2. It’s a cold 23 outside right now. Time to layer up!1 point

I forgot to mention that the c25k app I'm using is a godsend. It is really helping me do what I wasn't sure I could do.1 point
