  1. After years of neglecting my body, I finished the c25k program today. Reading the tips and stories from the members of this forum really helped me. So I would like to thank all of you. Will start 10kPro next week.

    Week 4 day 1

My first 5 minute segment finished and surprised me! However I struggled with the second 5 min segment and the last minute of that my jogging was as slow as walking I think! I'm sure as someone said, a lot of barriers to starting running are in my brain ...... Looking forward to wk 4 day 2 in a couple days though

  4. It's not petty. It's something you were looking forward to. If it'll make you feel any better, one of the primary reasons I'm running is for the medals. I'm not looking to be competitive - I just want something to hang on my wall. I wish I had a picture of my mother and I in the doctor's office back in 1968 when she was told (after my surgery) that I'd never walk again. If I could, I'd take that picture and hang any participation medals I could ever get on that picture. If all goes well, I'll get my first ones in early January (had to restart the program due to a muscle injury that was directly related to the birth defect that had me getting that surgery when I was 6). We each have our own personal reasons for doing this. Those reasons aren't silly or petty - they're the motivation that's getting us to a better life and lifestyle.

  5. How about using the treadmill or a heart rate monitor that comes with a watch? Either way you are spending money. Which is cheaper depends on other things you want for your workout.

  6. I've completed day 1 of week 1 despite my SUPER weak ankles. Literally as soon as I Starr running, my ankles start screaming, especially the left one. I'm hoping that this really is just a strength issue. My exercise regimen has been nonexistent for more than a year now, aside from a brief attempt at doing a 30 days of yoga challenge in January. So because of my week ankles, I never did a full 60 second run during any of the 8 rounds. I ran as much as I could (34 seconds or less when I looked at my phone once) and walked until it told me to run again. But I completed the 8 rounds! That's a LOT better than my first attempt about 2 months ago when I had to quit after 3 rounds because I pushed my ankles too far instead of giving them a break when they asked for it.
