2014 was supposed to be my year....
TheRoseWithin~Shannon reacted to jess40 for a topic
I turned 40 last year and made a vow to myself it would be my year....I would get in shape send my baby off to college in 2015 lookin and feelin hot! Fast forward to Jan 2015, gained 40 pounds since my birthday last April... Yesterday, I read numerous inspiring articles on fitness, healthy lifestyle changes, and realized....I can do it. I don't need a broken vow to keep me down any longer. The time could still be mine. Right now.. And..so..here I go!1 point -
Started week 4 today, slowed my pace a bit for the 5 min run, but felt like I could've kept going. My treadmill thinks it's fun to randomly speed up without warning, so that's a fun little surprise. :/ probably time for a tuneup. 2.65 miles done today.1 point

general question
KellyAnn reacted to TheRoseWithin~Shannon for a topic
LOL Azatol! I'm just the opposite! I love steam frying my eggs in a wee bit of coconut oil. Also, in the past, I purchased my virgin coconut oil from Tropical Traditions - love this site to no end! However, it's pretty spendy, (50% off as I type). Recently I discovered a brand from Amazon that sells a gallon for only 25ish - it makes fab popcorn btw!! Same exact ingredients as Tropical Traditions. Excellent amazon reviews!!1 point -
Brrr it's cold outside!! Are you looking for that silver lining?

'Like This' quota
KellyAnn reacted to TheRoseWithin~Shannon for a topic
Ok! Will do, and thanks! LOL This evening I reached my quota again! I don't like everything, yet many leave such beautiful encouragement and nothing more need be said other than, "Yeah, I like this a lot!!" <Click!> or <BAM!> as Emeril Lagasse would say.1 point -
Newb trying to run again.
TheRoseWithin~Shannon reacted to Dmosby for a topic
Hi All, My name is Daryle I am 42 and I am new to the forum but I am in Week 5 day 2 of C25K. I was 375 lbs when I started and I am down to 364. I am a former athlete....College Lacrosse and football. I am a dad of a wonderful 6 year old daughter husband to an amazing wife. I Hope to use this program to get back into serious running and lose weight. I ran the Disney 2004 Marathon so i am no stranger to running. Hopefully i can give some advice to others as well as utilizing other to help me reach my goals. Currently I am just running on a treadmill as is is easier on the joint and back until i can get my weight down to a manageable number. My daughter loves running in the yard and I really want to be able to chase and play with her. Also I want to be around for a long time and lets face it.....you don't see to many 300+ lbs 70 year olds walking around the mall. So good luck to everyone!1 point -
Settled in on a jawbone up24. Satisfied so far. It's comfortable and doesn't get in the way and seems to just work. I've played around with the IFTTT app and have a few custom reminders and actions paired up. Pretty interesting stuff.1 point

Week 1/Day 3
TheRoseWithin~Shannon reacted to Azatol for a topic
Nope nope nope. If you read the original Couch to 5K Plan ( Which predates this app ), you will note they tell you to run as slow as you possibly can. This is not about speed. it's about endurance. Once you can run 30 minutes the speed will come on its own from practice. The ONLY way you could have cheated is if you skipped today and cheated yourself out of a workout. Way to push through!! It was 30 degrees out and I had to talk msyelf into it today as well but I did<G>1 point -

Oh the pain!!! Not so much froim the run but the workout after, /Cry HAHAHAHA Week 7 Day 2 in the books. it was a fight as always but I won! This was a roulette challenge. 5 exercises plus a sixth "Burn a card". You start the stopwatch and roll a 6 sided die. It tells you which exercise you must do. Draw a card off the deck and that's the number of reps. When you roll a 6 you get to burn the top card and draw another. Below is the total reps of each of the items I did. My time was 14m 26s. I would not reccomend this workout, HAHA 1: Planks: :52 2: Kettlebell Swing: 41 3: Squats: 67 4: Jumping Jacks: 84 5: Assisted Split Squat: 102 (cry)1 point -
2014 was supposed to be my year....
TheRoseWithin~Shannon reacted to Azatol for a topic
Forget about making last year your year. Try making tomorrow your day. Just 1 day. Then we can go from there. Mini goals are the way to win. Stack the deck in your favor. I'll be cheering for ya!!1 point -

Azatol, that 'snap' I can relate to so well, (with BFL). I changed my diet and exercise on day 1 and with the exception of getting sick for a week, (mid way through) ... I stuck with it for 84 days - did not waver. It was a life-affirming/life-changing journey for me. It feels that way now. So silly, even as I wrote that last thought, I paused and a silly niggling voice popped in and said, "Don't jinx yourself!" Oh brother! Ignoring that one LOL1 point -
running with water bottle
KellyAnn reacted to Nephthys76 for a topic
Those belts with the little water bottles on them are usually called fuel belts, though that is actually the brand name of the first company to make such belts... Many companies make something similar now. I have been using my fuel belt for 10 years, I love it. It does not bounce, though it can sometimes chafe if your aren't careful. I have a friend who used to carry a hand held water bottle. She was unable to get beyond 6 miles without major back pain. One day she ditched the bottle and had no pain whatsoever, even when running a half. The bottle doesn't weigh much and seems innocuous... But it will still change your posture and natural arm swing and might cause you issues.1 point -
Good info. I still have some research to do but will reply back here with my final choice.1 point

How chunky and unfit is too CHUNKY AND UNFIT?
TheRoseWithin~Shannon reacted to Timb113 for a topic
Blackcat, there is no too unfit to do the program. The beauty of this program is that you can take your time working through it. If you run into a spot that your physically unable to complete just repeat until you are ready to move on. If you have not done much exercise leading up to starting the program, I would recommend taking at least a week or two of just brisk walking for 20-30 minutes before you try to run in the program, but you can do it. We all started some where, and these forums will be a great place to see how others who are starting at the same time are doing. Keep us updated, you can do it!1 point -

added w1d3 at the top of my original post in order to keep it all in one spot. I'll change the subject title each run. I look forward to reading my progress, as well as keeping ALL thoughts shared - in one thread - for inspiration and tips now and later! "Stay the course, don't think about what others think - think about how much you are doing for yourself." Thank you Soculese!!1 point
