Unfortuanly, it's a falacy that you can target body fat in specific areas. Body fat goes on and comes off in a specific way based on your genetics. You can lose body fat and it will come off from wherever it does but it's not targetable even though infomercials selling programs would like you to think you can. The best thing you can do is eat a good diet, do some sort of strengh training and achieve your gosals. The bodyfat will come off in the reverse order it went on and you'll be a happy runner. It's a total win! Welcome to you journey! Note: The last spots body fat comes off of are hips and butt on women and belly on men.

Great job. Congrats!!!! The first race is just an amzing feeling, isn't it?

Well if you do decide to try a sock, consider Feetures Elite Ultra Light. They are so thin you can see through them in spots. Keep your feet dry and blister free. Best of luck and I didn't expect you to want Vibrams. Totally different kind of running. Got em. Rarely wear em. Can't run but a mile in them.
-
I missed that too. Big congrats!!
-
I mean 5k. A 9 miler is far from a test run. That is most definately my long run day
-
Hvae you tried a proper pair of running socks? What's the problem you have with them? Unless you run in Vibrm Five Fingers minimalist/barefoot shoes(EXTREMELY hard to learn and painful), if you don't wear socks, you are most likjely fdestined for foot blisters.

Hiya, You want to run 3 days a week and it's best to have a rest day after each. I did Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Good luck. It's quite rewardning.
-
Had some improvement today. Knee is barely hurting. Did 30 minutes on the stationary bike. Still doing full physical therapy exercises every day and planning to try a test run on Friday.

This is just fine. You may have to rethink it later if you start running marathons or Triathlons but that's just fine

I eat 2500+ calories a day. The other upside of strength training is muscles eat 35 calories per hour. That's an extra 420 calories per day just for being strong!! Add running/lifting/cycling/walking and you burn a ton fo calories. If you eat good food (I eat 70% vegetables), you can eat TONS. I stuff my face all the time and lose weight LOL

Don't ever expose bare skin running in the winter. Other than that you're fine to take layers off. Never take and leave your gloves off. Your hands get hot and you will want to not wear them but you can feel warm and get frostbite still. The only rule is keep the skin covered. As for eating before a run, don't buy into all that garbage. Extra fueling before a very hard run (A race or a marathon), sure. Before doing W6D2 it wont make the slightest difference(Other than make you intake more calories and negate the caloric burn of your run, if you're in weight loss mode). Your legs store 90 minutes worth of glycogen in them. Unless you are running in excess of that, fuel wont benefit you. Additionally, we use carbs only when running fast and hard. In a normal easy paced run we actually burn fat, If you do decide you want to eat before a run stick to stuff like granola and fruit. No whole wheat and not much fat. Those are things that cause gastrointestinal issues while you run. Your digestive system doesn't operate as normal while you run. It essentially shuts mostly down to use the energy elsewhere. Your belly becomes very sensitive. You don't want to get the trots.

HAHA you'll see. It's an addiction. Oh I gotta try those on. Hmmm, these feel great. CHA-CHING

Love the attitude!!! Running in the winter is rough but running in 90 degrees is worse. You can eventually warm up. You never cool down.

I don't have a problem with shoes (I keep telling myself that)
-
You were a winner the day you stepped out that door to start!

Completed the 5k program last week - the story continues

They are expensive (70 USD) but Sport Hill Voyage pants are so full of win!! Windproof and toasty warm. -
2 stretches to try Although I do one leg at a time. Also this is done straight legged but then unlock your knee and do it again. That's called a soleus stretch. See if that helps. 30 seconds each stretch as many times as you can find the time in a day to do them.

You wont. Most people are all confused on the subject anyway. There is nothing wrong with running on no or low calorie intake. I ran 9 miles on Saturday with just a small paleo granola bar and my morning coffee in me. No harm done. Additionally, the whole fueling with carbs thing isn't entirely accurate. Your body actually burns fat stores when you do an easy run. It uses carbs/glycogen when you run fast and hard (race). Worry about eating a healthy diet but don't worry about eating to run at the moment. It's not all that relevant until you're racing or running very long(90 minutes +).

True story Most running stores will take shoes back and it wont even cost them anything. They just send it back to the manufacturer for a replacement pair to sell.

Any running store will watch you walk and analyze your pronation. I myself like Fleet Feet if you have one locally.

Some good thick running socks (and comfy) are Swiftwick Pursuit and Balega No Blister. Running socks makes a huge different. Your feet will be happier instantly. Any brand of quality running sock is just fine. The two I just mentioned I know to be rather thick and cushiony. I use the pursuits for my long runs but I'm stocking up to use them all winter because they are part Merino Wool = warm! Also if you find problems with consistent tied shoes check out Nathan Lock Laces. They are elastic and keep a constant consistent steady tension. The problem is you may regret them later (only 7 bucks a pair). I used to like my shoes crazy tight and now I prefer them rather loose. Can't lengthen laces you cut to size LOL

Family and friends are all 600+ miles away in New York. My original plan was to spend the holiday running and strength training LOL. Now I'll be catching upon TV
-
Elliptical actualy caused knee discomfort as did just treadmill walking (after 20 minutes). Spoke to my physical therapist and he told me the recumbant stationary biek then. Will try that tomorrow. Feels good to have a rest(Althought I'm already missing running LOL)

This is fairly accurate. Another possibility of sore calves is when the drop of your new shoe is considerably lower than the drop of your old shoe. Uses the calves differently.
