  1. Dang! Congratulations HLRme! I'm curious, by the end or middle of the run do you start to notice a difference in how the cold is affecting you? I ask because I have never run outside during the winter - only inside. I stepped outside my comfort zone, yesterday, in below 35 and didn't think I'd want to do it again, yet I warmed up towards the end and felt great! What are you noticing for you, and what are you saying to yourself, in those first minutes of bitter cold, to press on?

  3. Hey Ashley, pleased to meet you! You've already taken the first step - you are starting. Hang in there, press on in spite of and because of and you will accomplish any goal you set for yourself. I concur with KellyAnn ... posting here = instant motivation! I would love to hear how you are doing - up days, down days, missed days and of course successful days! Cheers! Even as I write these words, they are also self-encouragement.

  4. Shannon, I think you'll find a lot of great motivation on these forums. I started the C25K program (for the third time) this summer and completed it for the first time, running my first two 5Ks in August. I moved on to the 10K program, and though I did not complete it, I used some of the principles to build my own training program for my first 10K, which I completed yesterday! I like to come on here to see the success stories, and see where people are struggling, because we all did (in the C25K program and in life). I'm quite an introvert, but I feel like I have a different voice here, and I hope you find yours and all else that you're looking for. Best of luck!

  5. Noah, like Azatol said, you'll be surprise by what your body can do if you put your mind to it. If you've made it through the program to this point, your body is ready to run 20 minutes in one stretch, you just need to get your mind on board. Will you be tired? Sure. Will you want to walk at some point? Sure (and if you do, that's fine), but you CAN DO IT! We have faith in you. Let us know how it goes.

    Take 2

Heather, good luck. Try to make a schedule to keep yourself on track. I work at a university and started the program during the summer, when things were much lighter. Once school was in session again, it made it much harder to keep on pace. If you can set exactly which days you are going to run/lift/cross train/etc., and work it into your schedule, that will help, I think.

  8. Thanks. I actually did suck it up and go out. I ran through some subdivisions so the wind wasn't so bad. I did it!! W6d3!! Whoo hoo! On to week 7! Feeling a bit intimidated, but I know I can do it. Slow and steady. I'm the only one in the race, so I always win.

  10. Hi Kelly! Thank you for the warmest of welcomes and encouragement! In regards to repeating myself...do you mean the accidental double posts, encouraging multiple members or something else? I've read the 'Start Here' forums, (and others) and have been wonderfully inspired. For clarification, please let me know. I do not wish to do anything silly or annoying!

Hey Azatol, Welcome back. There were some posts from your name that were total spam, but then we saw your posts that were great too. I emailed Zen and asked them to look into it as it was hard to tell which was spam and which was not. Glad to see you back and kicking some butt. Love you on here. I really like your posts. You too Shannon. These forums rock. Happy running everyone.

  15. You can do this. It's important to set your mind to be healthy not skinny.

  16. Time is relative to the individual. Work on beating your best. Don't just focus on the 5k. Running a 10k will also help with your 5k time. Alternate your distances in your workouts. Remember your biggest obstacle is your mind. Your body can do more than your mind thinks it can.
