Hi everyone. I'm so new both in running or sharing :-) so here I am with first week first day. Kept telling myself that I'll start jogging for the last 2 years and here came the big day..yey me!!! Did it and wasn't as hard expected and it does feel a millions times better. Not only because I ran but ceva use I took the first step out of the comfort zone. At this point my biggest fear is not to get to the 5k as I don't feel confident about me running but hoping writing helps I'll keep on writing here :-) see you all on Thursday then.

I just started today. My sons challenged me to a mini triathlon in April, 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike ride, and 2 mile run. They are 14 year old twins who play freshman football, I'm a 40 year old over weight former athlete back in the day but 300+ lbs today. I made it through day 1, but it took everything I had. Those last 10 seconds of the jog are the longest 10 seconds of my life it seems.

Post,

thats a great goal! A triathlon is no joke especially with two 14 year old athletes who Im sure have endless energy. Dont worry I know youll get there! Congrats on starting this journey and doing that first day. thats the most important step.  Just keep at it, as a former athlete you know all it takes to be fit so keep at it! Keep us posted on your progress!

Hi Kristen,

If you are using the C25k app, at the end of oyur workout hit save and it should save it to MFP.  I also use the MapMyFitness app running in the background so I can see how far I have gone.  Especially when some days I feel like running further to get to a certain mileage. Some days I am just full of energy, lol..

Started yesterday at the gym. Not a born runner for sure! Walking pace 6.1 - jogging pace 7.5. Mistakenly did day 2 today instead of resting or doing something else. Oh well. Enjoying it on the inside! Sweating hard out on the outside - least I know I'm working hard, and everyone else at the gym can see it too. Hardest part for me is breathing properly. Being a smoker, my lungs are full with other grouse stuff. My fault. No one forced me to take up smoking years ago. Hope to kick that bad habit sooner before it kills me.

Good for you auntyp! Running and quitting smoking are two huge changes for the better in your life. I had to quit myself about five years ago, cold turkey, i know it aint easy. there are times today when i think to myself, a cigarette would be great right now. Luckily i have a great husband and son who both would absolutely hate it if I actually followed through on that thought.

I hope you can kick the habit as well. It makes a huge difference.

Welcome by the way and know we are all here for help and encouragement if you need it!

I started today, but didn't even get halfway done before I was so breathless that I had to walk the rest. My thought was to repeat the first workout until I can complete it, otherwise, I will fail harder. I never post on boards. Well, I never worked out regularly either until a couple weeks ago. I NEED to lose 100 lbs, and I want to get to the point where I can run 5Ks as part of my program. I'm hoping that I will improve my chances of success by participating in forums.

I started today, and I got almost halfway done before I was so breathless that I had to walk the rest. YAY me! I'm off to a great start.

I fixed that quote for you Cherise.  The first training you need doesn't start with your legs. It starts upstairs in your squash. If you win the mental game, your body will cooperate. Start thinking like a fit person and you're body will start acting like one. Start thinking like a runner and you will be a runner. I don't care if you only ran for 30 seconds today. Run 32 on Sunday. Your brain doesn't want to run. It wants to watch TV and eat Pringles but the good news is you're in charge, not your brain(See the quote in my sig). Keep that up and you'll get a surprise <G>

Welcome to the forums

Remember: This is Couch to 5k. If you got off the couch today and tried, you succeeded!!

Hey Post!

Congrats!!!  I love that you accepted a challenge from your boys! One day/step at a time, trust your instinct in regards to training. I cannot wait to hear how you progress, and I bet it does bring back your inner athlete along with adding strength - in the broadest of senses - mentally, physically and emotionally! Cheers!!!   Please keep us posted!  I was curious what app you began with?

Hi Auntyp,

Right on!  HUGE Congrats on beginning and quitting!!!

Warmest of welcomes Cherise! WayHAY to go siSTAR! You began! I noticed you shared that you do not post on boards.  I too am not a forum gal and was a bit hesitant to begin - this is my only forum. I barely keep my FB updated! LOL That said, I hope you return and share your progress.  Even if you never post, I find reading is highly motivational. I have found others who are experiencing the same situation, have overcome and pressed on which encourage me to do the same.  If you do post, you'll be encouraged and supported.  I have a tendency to go it alone, these forums, in part, have been instrumental in my success thus far.  Hope you find the same here as well!  Cheers!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Cherise,

I was so inspired by your post that I WILL begin today.

I had pneumonia about 4 years ago and was hospitalized for 8 days. I was taking in so little oxygen by the end that just getting out of bed required stopping and focusing on my breathing.

Long story short, I was a brown belt in Kenpo Karate before my illness and after my recovery I was a couch potato.

Last Saturday I challenged myself to run "all out" as far as I could and I made it 3 driveways down from mine, then it took 8 minutes to get my breathing back to normal.

We have a long road to travel, but what else is life but a long road to travel?

I'll post again when I've done what I am able to do today and I hope you read it, even if you don't want to post.

We CAN make it through the first day, even if it takes us weeks!
