Tips for getting up early and running?

I am also not a morning person but it really is the best time for me due to work on-call etc - try as I might night running doesn't happen. I force myself - clothes out night before, get my half banana ready, phone and music charged up, alarm set. When it goes I force myself up right away and no snooze. Once I get out running I think, this is great, so peaceful, quiet. I wouldn't say I love my training sessions yet, but after I feel great. Good luck

Ask my wife. I am not a morning person at all. The fact my daughter wakes up at 7am even on weekends makes me an unhappy camper. BUT. Since I started C25K I have been running in the morning. Early. 5am to be exact. For me it was the only time that made sense where I thought I could run. With having a kid and job and house duties I couldn't figure out another time I thought I would actually run knowing me. So I set my alarm and get up. It helps that most days my wife is still sleeping so I can't hit snooze or anything. I have to literally hop out of bed and stop my alarm to not wake her and to make sure I get up. It's a struggle every day but I know I'm doing it for good reasons. My whole mentality over the last few weeks is JUST GET UP AND GO! Even today as it was pouring down rating I just got up and went. It sucked but it's another run closer to running a 5k. Hope any of that helps.

My biggest motivator was to sign up for an actual 5k, and post it on fb so my friends could ask me how it's coming along. And then I put a 6am prompt on my phone that said, "You signed up for a 5k! Get off your butt and run!" :-D It still took a few weeks to really get into a rhythm of running before work in the mornings, what things not to do on run mornings to leave time for it, etc.

But now I'm starting week 6 and for the past week I have to say I'm motivated by the fact that I actually feel best when I'm consistently running every other day! It's harder to get motivated again if I slack off for a few days so now I just don't. So many physical benefits: more energy, less stiffness and soreness, firming of muscles, cardio endurance, better lung capacity, reduced endometriosis symptoms (that one surprised me), desire to stay hydrated, and I'm sure more that I can't see or feel.

I also have trouble with this, and part of it is feeling hungry in the morning or feeling like I need to eat something and hydrate for fuel before running which means waking up even earlier to digest and pee before going. What do people suggest to help this? What do you usually eat/drink, if anything, before a morning run and how long do you wait between eating and running?
