  1. Triometrics is a P90X3 workout I also LOVE T25 and the Combat stuff! My husband can totally relate to you re yoga and Pilates. My favorite workout is actually Yoga X but it's a grueling 90 minutes. I hated it in the beginning. Some yoga is good to do; I remember Karim Abdul-Jabar once attributed his NBA success to yoga and that has really stuck with me. As a matter of fact, you just reminded me that we're doing some yoga tonight lol I think tomorrow is our run day I'm looking forward to using the 10K app starting later this month to get ready for our 10K in January.
  2. I agree it's probably your shoes, and I strongly recommend you go to your doctor if you're experiencing recurring pain. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself so much that you can't run for months or need surgery. The next thing I recommend is looking into replacing your shoes with good running shoes, and going to a store that specializes in running is a great place to start. Preferably if they have equipment that can test your stride, how you walk, where you put most of your weight when you stand, etc and recommend the right kind of shoe for you. We have a place called Roadrunner Sports in my city. Look them up online and see if you can find a similar place in your area. Running shoe stores sometimes have an overstock or "second-hand" area so you can get good running shoes on a budget, so check that out also. My favorite running shoes right now are the Asics GEL-Kayanos, and you can usually find a pair on Amazon for under $100 if you time it just right. Don't worry about the numbers (ie GEL-Kayano 19 or 20) - those are just the model year code. 19 is last year and 20 is this year I believe. Good luck and hope you get it all sorted out soon so you can enjoy running pain free!
  3. Welcome farmgirl! And major kudos to you for starting! Like Kelly said above, simply starting and wanting change can be the hardest part. And congrats on your success so far! Keep it up and track your progress. If you ever lose any motivation, you can look back at how far you've come. This may sound strange but I'd like to challenge you to take a "before" picture of yourself and hold onto it! (Lock it up somewhere safe if it makes you a little more comfortable). THEN take another in a couple of months and compare the two...you will be AMAZED...then keep doing it as you progress. I was given this challenge at one point and as much as I hated taking that pic, I couldn't believe the transformation when I put the two side by side after 90 and 180 days. Keep up the great work! Baby steps is a very good thing - you'll know when it's time to possibly start to make nutritional changes
  4. Good for you Kelly! My husband and I did a hardcore cardio workout this morning ("Triometrics"). I think I would have preferred a slow jog around the neighborhood lol
  5. Welcome to the community Candace! I have a friend who just completed the 3 day walk in Santa Barbara Best of luck to you as you train, and CONGRATS on losing 55 lbs so far in your fitness journey! That's awesome!
  6. Congrats on your goal! You can do anything you put your mind to, just take it one step at a time and keep moving forward Try taking a break in the middle of your run to do some calf stretches. Also, make sure you're giving your calves some extra love when you stretch after each run.
  7. I agree it kinda depends on your goals, and I would definitely recommend adding some weight training during the week. All cardio all the time can lead to muscle atrophy (I've seen it happen and it ain't pretty), and weight training can actually help a lot with weight loss, IF that's your goal (it can even burn more fat than cardio). Since you're doing Kenpo X, I'm guessing you have the full P90X program, so consider doing a couple of the resistance workouts during the week. Staggered is best, so if you're doing C25K workouts M/W/F, do weight training T/Th and possibly Sat. Mix in upper body, lower body and core (just make sure you aren't doing back-to-back weight days - your body needs time to recover, especially if you're doing P90X workouts). Increasing strength is equally as important as increasing stamina, and it's good for you, even if you aren't looking to bulk up. My husband and I have just started training for a 10K in January. We're doing P90X3, and we either go for a run instead of doing the scheduled cardio workouts or both (depending on the day or our mood lol). Integrating a hybrid of P90X and C25K might be a good way to go for you as well. If, on the other hand, you don't have weights (or access to them), there are plenty of resistance moves you can do using your own body weight. I hope this helps a little!
  8. Hello! I'm new to running...I've actually hated it all my life, until I discovered my favorite place in So Cal hosts races. Recently, I completed my first 5K (through Disneyland!), and now I'm kinda hooked (I was warned this might happen). I've been pretty active most of my life, but getting me to run would always result in dragging, kicking and screaming. I always said I'd rather swim a mile than run it. Until I was introduced to Disney runs. Now my husband and I are signed up for the Star Wars 10K in January with plans to run a Half later next year for our anniversary. Husband still wants to know what happened to his wife lol Got any advice for a newbie like me? What are your favorite foam rolling exercises? I have very tight hamstrings, hip flexors and my IT band has been complaining since the 5K.
  9. I'm a big fan of Asics as well. Just started running with Gel Kayanos and I'm in love! I use court shoes for cross training, and my current faves are women's volleyball shoes. They ain't pretty looking but they feel great!
