  1. You're welcome! That's what we're here for
  2. Yup! Be patient with your breathing since you're an ex-smoker. Your lung capacity will definitely increase as you go! Good for you on the squat challenge! Those and the plank challenges are my least favorites lol Running should be good to help you loosen up your "squat" muscles as you increase your squats throughout the month
  3. Welcome NickiT and congratulations on your decision for a healthier lifestyle! You should be fine having only one rest day a week, depending on your fitness level and the intensity of your workouts. For example, P90X is one of the most intense at-home exercise programs you can do, and there is only one rest day per week on the schedule. Just be sure to listen to your body and pay attention if it's telling you it needs an extra rest day here and there. You wouldn't want to risk injuring yourself, right?
  4. Welcome BreannaRowe! You've come to the right place for sure! I can recommend a couple of places for you to start. My Fitness Pal is a great app to help you track what you eat (calories and everything), AND they even have a newsletter they send out occasionally about healthy eating tips. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ Lots of us are users on this app, so look for the My Fitness Pal post in these forums and feel free to add any/all of us as buddies. Another great resource I've found is the Beachbody Blog. You don't have to be a Beachbody customer to follow it, and they've always got great tips on eating healthy, including yummy recipes http://www.beachbody.com/beachbodyblog/ (Disclaimer: I happen to be a Beachbody coach but this link in NO WAY links to me at all. This is their generic website.) You can search for all kinds of cool stuff in here. Good luck to you and please keep us posted and feel free to ask any questions you have as you go. Lastly, start out slow, and don't beat yourself up if that mini Snickers won't stop calling your name and you give in every now and then. I think it's awesome that you are committed to starting a healthier lifestyle, and you will definitely succeed if you remember WHY you're doing it. Also, remember it's for the long term and little mistakes or bad decisions along the way are completely normal! We are human after all OH! And reward yourself for each "win" - whether it's a lower number on the scale, looser clothes, finishing Day 1, or just saying no to that cookie in the lunch room.
  5. Woohoo!! Congratulations!!!
  6. You'll love it Breanna! Like Kelly said, it's very motivating Take your time, and try not to get discouraged if you find it challenging. We're here to support you, so let us know how you're doing and/or if you have any questions that may come up along the way. Good luck on Sunday! Can't wait to hear how Day 1 goes for you!
  7. Foam rolling is...in a word...torture LOL But it's good torture. You use a cylindrical piece of foam and roll on it on various parts of your body, like along your IT band (side of your leg), quads, etc. I say it's torture because I have very tight areas that NEED the foam rolling, and I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to the actual rolling. Amazon has them and so do most sporting goods stores. Here's an example.
  8. All Disney race events sell out in hours. The trick is knowing when registration opens and being ready for it (I speak from personal experience lol)
  9. Hello Runner Moms/Moms-to-be! I'm currently almost 17 weeks pregnant and will be running a 10K when I'm at about 24 weeks. I'm very active, but this will be my first time "running" in an event while pregnant. I'd love to know what is your best/favorite supportive belly gear for running? I saw a "belly sports bra" on Pinterest recently but can't seem to find it online anywhere to purchase. I recently learned that Old Navy has maternity active wear, so I'll be looking into their compression pants, but I'd love to know what has been your go-to maternity running gear...especially as my belly grows in the coming weeks! TIA
  10. I love your enthusiasm! If you Google "Triathlon training programs," you'll get some great results back to help you plan for it over the next few months. Strength and endurance training are probly going to be your best friends. Good luck training for it and please keep us posted on your progress!
  11. LOL I've done something similar before Glad you got it figured out!
  12. Welcome Jasmine! Best of luck to you in your first 5K! I ran my first one this summer and now I'm signed up for a 10K in January. It's addicting, especially getting those pretty bling-y medals! Keep us posted on your progress over the next couple weeks.
  13. I'm big chested myself, and I always have to make sure the bra indicates that it's for high intensity workouts. I've had good luck with Old Navy sports bras and Champion. I'm cheap, so I don't like to pay a lot of $ for stuff lol I was surprised at how well ON sports bras held the girls in without suffocating me.
  14. Great comments by everyone, and so supportive! Rachel, you are definitely not the only one! We've all got to start somewhere Before you know it, there will be no stopping you on your runs!
  15. We'll be getting a jogger in the Spring, and all we keep hearing about is how AWESOME the BOB jogging stroller is! They're pricey, but you can find them on Craigslist all the time.
  16. I've had excellent results drinking Shakeology! In less than a year, my overall cholesterol dropped 90 points and my energy level went thru the roof! I can definitely feel a huge difference when I don't have it for a day or so, and I'm now going on my third year having it for breakfast or lunch usually. Be sure to check with your coach if you don't like the taste at first. A lot of time, it's a matter of finding the right recipe and/or flavor. And best of luck to you with the 21 Day Fix! It's an awesome program that really gets results A little disclaimer about the cholesterol drop: this was not simply because I was drinking Shakeology everyday. I was also working out 6 days/week and switched to a truly clean diet. I believe it was the combination of these 3 things that attributed to my results. Also, Shakeology is not intended as a weight loss shake nor is it merely a protein shake. I'm sure if you reach out to your coach, he/she will be more than willing to answer any questions you have and help you get started right Cheers!
  17. One trick that *might* help is to just put on your workout clothes, including your shoes. Then see how you feel. If you're still not feeling it, that's okay - you tried. But sometimes, all it takes is putting on those running shoes and you're out the door before you realize you weren't motivated to do anything And LoneBabyWIldebeest - you really should consider starting a blog
  18. See if you can find a good shoe store that specializes in running. They usually have the technology to evaluate your gait and recommend the best shoe for you (and it's free, or at least it should be). In my area that store is Roadrunner Sports (I'm in San Diego). Until I met my runner husband and started learning about running (I've never been a runner, more of a strength training and group X kinda person), I didn't realize there were shoes designed specifically for running. So when I finally bought a good pair of running shoes, I actually started to enjoy running more than when I ran with my trainers.

    help?

Do you wear arch supports? If you haven't already, you may consider going to a running shoe store and have your running style/feet/gait/etc evaluated (it's free most places) to see what kind of shoe (and possibly custom inserts) would be best for you. Proper stretching after every run is also important, as mentioned above. Listen to your body. If you experience sharp pain, stop and get it checked out by a dr. If it's simply muscle soreness, stretching and staying properly hydrated are your best allies.
  20. Welcome back to running! Are you training for a specific event or just getting back into the swing of things?
  21. I'm sdbeachgirl9 (Laticia) I haven't used this app FOREVER but if I have new friends, it might motivate me to start using it again...cuz I need it right now! My nutrition has been way off for a few months now.

Kim - SO AM I! (A health nut who hates running) I just ran my first 5K and the only reason I did it was because it was through Disneyland...and now I'm kinda hooked lol Something that has helped me run with my husband who loves to run is break it up into intervals. Running is extremely boring to me, so doing intervals makes it more fun, and I also found a great music app that helps too - Rock My Run is a free app that's worth checking out if you love music and want something that can match your tempo. Rose of Sharon - WOW good for you! I'm very impressed - you are living proof that we are never too old to get in shape! Keep moving forward one step at a time...and if you ever feel like giving up, just tell your kids...sounds like you have a great support system, which is so important.
  23. Puke happens. Embrace it hee hee (okay maybe don't take it that far). but seriously, I've felt like puking in workouts occasionally; typically it's just your body working in overdrive, and it's normal as long as it's occasional...but if you do it every time, you might consider slowing down...a lot. Over training is definitely not good for you. And if it's consistent, check with your doc to make sure something else might not be going on. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Make sure you're hydrating enough throughout the day also. Safe running to ya!
  24. Looking in the mirror or needing a belt for your pants cuz they're way too loose!
