owl reacted to Crabapple in Just starting out!
I've been working on this for at least 8 weeks, but as far as the app goes I'm still fighting with week 4. That week has you run 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes. I run, probably, about a minute and a half, with comparable breaks. Some of where I run is uphill, so my flat or downhill runs are a little bit longer.
But I am making headway. A few days ago I corrected my form, and I think I'm going to make better progress.

owl reacted to CleBkPkr in 5K on St. Patrick’s Day 2019
What a fun time this was! So my plan was to improve on my time from my first 5K on Thanksgiving 2018. That one I finished according to my bib time 1:00:08.74 (19:24/M). Today I finished 52:59.8 (17:05/M) I would say that was a pretty good job. I'll count it as a success. I also started my fitbit tracker about 18 seconds before I actually crossed the starting line. My tracker had me completing the race at 54:49 (I had to wait to stop it until I was past the crowd) with a pace of 16:43/M so I dunno lol
I really didn't run much. I did "sprint" at times and honestly once I got going I felt pretty good. According to fitbit my last mile was on track for a pace of 16:01/M.
The weather was down right cold! It was in the 20s at the start but the sun was shinging and it made for a beautiful day. At the half way point I ditched my gloves and headband. I was plenty warm Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement! This race was just what I needed to motivate me to keep working on this. I'll be scanning the websites for more races to sign up for this year. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Good Luck! You can do this. I really like the idea of a back back for layers. Or, my cousin the marathon runner says, "wear old clothes as outer layers and don't worry about getting them back."

owl got a reaction from Crabapple in C25K on my elliptical
Kamille,
Good for you! I did 5 mins on the elliptical stair stepper this week and I thought I was going to die!! I don't know why but the elliptical machines feel so much harder to me than walking, so you have my respect doing it that way. Keep it up. We can do this!!

Well when I completed the 5k courses It was still at least 1/3 walking. but I came in the second time 5 minutes faster than my first so I am very proud of that. I did 2 11 minute miles then I got tired and finished with a 16 minute mile and a sprint at the end for the camera lol! I found that a cheering crowd and a big timer staring at me motivates me to dig for that last bit of energy at the end. The tee shirt is also a bit of proof you can wear afterward to show the world what you've accomplished. I highly recommend signing up for at least one official road race as you finish your training program. It's like the show to all of your rehearsals.

Dear MellowYellow,,
Welcome! I also joined up to drop some weight. I was doing great 6 years ago and had completed 2 5ks but life stuff happened and I ended up gaining all my former weight back. I think also that it was a bit of "resting on my laurels" because I had accomplished my goal of a 5k race. So now I am back with a bigger goal, a 10k. And again life is interfering a bit with back and medication issues, but I really think the key is to dust yourself off and keep going toward your goals. You can do it!!! and when you do, immediately start thinking about your next goal so your focus is on the journey forward always heading for that next bigger goal.

Silver Pie
That's what I'm hoping too. She actually took me off of the diuretic because I was so dizzy I had to leave work one day. I am down about 10 lbs already (helped by drastic water loss but I'll still take it) and I can feel improvements in my flexibility and my stamina. I will argue my case for getting off the pills again at the 25lbs lost mark.

I think they recommend that you can start about that week since you've already run a lot. If you do that week and it's too easy, then just skip forward again. If it's a little bit hard then you could just go back a week.

I’m so excited for you! I remember the first time (5 years ago) I learned that I could run. It was amazing to me! Congratulations on giving it a try!
I am also planning to run in a 5k at the end of April. This will be my 5th time doing this race but I wouldn’t really consider myself a runner. I use the race as motivation to get back outside and do some walk/jog laps. So, here I am again trying to jumpstart myself to get back out there. This is my first time using the c25k program. I just started this week so I’m ready today for w1d2. It’s a cold 23 outside right now. Time to layer up!

I forgot to mention that the c25k app I'm using is a godsend. It is really helping me do what I wasn't sure I could do.

I've never been a runner, but recently it occurred to me that if I can walk three or four miles I could probably learn to run it. So I decided to shoot for a 5K run that is in my local area near the end of April. I may become a runner yet.

Week 1 day 2
Yesterday I did day 2 of week 1 on my elliptical. First I didn't want to do it because I'm not a very sportive person but I am glad that I did it. I want to finish this program on my elliptical. Maybe when I lose some weight and my body is in better shape I will going to like sport but for now it's still difficult. I feel like I have no energy. But I will finish it. And I'm trying to eat as healthy as possible.
Well tomorrow I will do day 3.
Kamille.

I read the last part and just started cracking up! I can just see me stripping off layers as I near the finish LOL
I decided on a thin base layer, long sleeve t shirt and my north face. Bottoms are my leggings. And kilt of course lol

Just completed Week 10 day 1. I move fairly slowly but am amazed that combining the Running with the walking and warm-ups, I did 5 miles. Whoever thought that I could do 5 miles.

I've joined up to lose some weight, I've put on around 40lbs since my wedding in 2017 and need to sort myself out to get in better shape, I've done casual runni g before but never kept it up, hopefully c25k can keep me on track. I'm sound 207lbs now and looking to get down to 160ish and get some regular park runs in over summer.
I'm a bit of a yoyoer so really going to give this my best shot.
