What Not to Eat on the Day of a Run

Recommended Posts

I'm very disappointed in the lack of help on this forum...

I'm new as well but i've started eating an energy bar in the morning before my run, then after my shower I have a high protein breakfast or protein bar if i'm in a hurry.

I read in one of the many running books I am reading and have read to try 1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese and 1/2 cup of berries. It worked for me. All the best to you. :)

I eat 30 minutes before my run... Actually it's 30 minutes before I stretch for my run. I usually have a carb source, a protein source cooked with coconut oil, and a banana. The banana helps tremendously with shin pains. And of course, I drink water. I haven't read anything on what not to eat, I'm sure empty carbs or "bad fats" would be on that list due to the lack of nutritional value. But you need carbs for long term energy (whole wheat bread, oatmeal, quinoa) and protein to build/repair muscle. You need fat for short term fuel and that energy for your workout (hence the coconut oil, but yogurt works or olive oil). It's worked great for me thus far - I can advance week to week, I don't run out of steam, I don't cramp up. I recover with a whey protein shake after my cool down.

Banana with peanut or almond butter about 1hr before workout- or you could do an apple w/pnut butter

While I was doing the 5K trainer, I tended to not have anything except some water before hand. Then a smoothie after showering.

Now that I've started the 10K trainer, I've taken to downing a can of V8 Fusion Energy when I get up. Then getting ready and stretching usually allows me enough time for it to kick in.

I think the most important thing to remember is that your body is unique. Try what others are doing, but find and stick with what works best for you.

Hey , there is help here.  Before  I run, I eat something in the way if a protein.  SMall for sure, otherwise I get ill...  I like a boiled egg, string cheese, half of a protein bar.   THen a shake after my run.    I cannot run on an empty stomach.
