Training with baby

Recommended Posts

So I had a baby in March and I have been doing all I can to get in shape. Last weekend I did a 5k mud run that had I believe it was 25 obstacles. I am proud of myself for finishing and dping almost everyone of them, but I was not happy with the fact that I had to walk almost all of it from the start.I decided to start using this app again because I remember how much it helped me before. This time though I am pushing my babies stroller while training. It has proven to be quite challenging. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about this. I'm wondering if this would actually make me run better when I do the next 5k since I won't have to be pushing anything along the way.

Today was week 1 day 1 and I did better than I expected to, but I was winded very quickly. Excited about the future and all the other 5ks I will attempt to do.

Running with a stroller is definitely harder. I was jogging on a different program of trying to get to 5k in just 30 days. I got to 8 minutes of jogging before hurting myself from pushing too hard. Now starting all over with this app... I can tell it's harder cause when my husband runs with me I'll make him push the stroller and I feel like I could jog forever without it! But it'll make you stronger in the long run for sure!! My husband regularly does 5ks but he gets exhausted when using the stroller... so when I get to the point of doing 5ks... I'll be stronger than him! ;)

Thanks for the responses everyone. Honestly it seems to be getting a bit easier as time goes on. Since I've been doing it each week and also slimming back down everything seems easier. Maybe I won't be saying that when i get to week 7, but I am halfway to the final now since I'm on week 4. I have always been a sprinter and would always want to do long distance, but just didn't have the endurance for it. Now my breathing seems to be getting better and the lbs are coming off as well. It sure is exciting to be able to do it while looking at my little girl. Sometimes she plays while I jog and that makes me want to do even better. Once she starts being able to run around I will need to be able to keep up.

Good for you! I've never run a 5K, but there are so many fun themed ones now that I want to join in and look and feel the part! I just completed W1D1 pushing both my babies in a double stroller (non-jogger). It was hard, but I won't let myself quit in front of them - hello accountability! Plus, I got back 15 minutes ago and am still pouring sweat, so I know it was an amazing workout! Good luck to you, sounds like you'll do great!

dont they make jogging strollers dont know if that would make a difference but you go girl u sound amazing. After my first and second it was all i could do to just get to work and back let alone excersize

hahah, yes they do and that is what I'm using. They are much easier to push than regular stroller and go along with bumps instead of feeling like you will fall each bump you hit. Today starts week 5, but I don't know if I can handle it. I will do my best of course!

how is it going where are you on the running how is the baby

Thanks for asking! Things are great! Tomorrow is the last day of week 7!! so exciting and nerve-wracking to only have one final week. I have become stronger in pushing the stroller. I can now do it much longer in each position (both hands, one hand at a time). My little normally goes to sleep when I run so that also helps a ton. I did a 5k last weekend, but I only walked it because it was too packed to even try to jog. Also the mud was pretty intense. I was actually running in a school parking lot because it's easy to circle around and was nice at night since it was very lit up. Also the cleaning crew was always there so I felt pretty safe. I started going earlier due to the time change and realized that I have to change my route due to all the school traffic. So I changed to going up and down a couple of streets by my home. It has proven to be quite effective because I now how far I got the previous time I did it and I want to beat that, so it's been a big plus.

I also want to say that it has become much easier for me to run. I never could have imagined jogging for 25 minutes straight. The only thing I'm a little worried about next week is when I get to the final run. Normally after 35 minutes I have to go to the restroom even if I go right before the workout. I have one kidney and so that is a small concern of mine. I don't like stopping to use the restroom, so I hope I can make it.

I don't know what to do after I complete the 5k training. Do I keep doing the week 8 day 3 run and keep improving? or should I try to move on and try the 10k?

Its really up to you :) if you wanna improve your time just stay on w8d3 but if youre just shooting for distance give the 10k app a try!

I just started today. Running with a 19mo old and a jogging stroller. Totally excited to lose some pounds, have more energy, and just feel better! Good luck to you all!

Welcome! It's definitely a bit of a challenge at first, but it gets better.

I think I will go ahead and do the 10k, my ultimate goal is a triathlon so I have a ways to go.
