Question about Week 5 day 3

Recommended Posts

trying to figure out how to get through this. I know I can run at least 8 min without stopping but I'm not even close to 20 minutes. Do I take the approach to just try running as long as I can or should I systematically run smaller increments? This going from 2 -8 min to 1- 20 minute is a big jump.

Yes it is and it is intimidating but thats what makes it great. You never know what your body can do until you push it to the limit. Give it a shot and if you have to walk before the twenty minutes its ok! At least you tried :) just see how long you can go.

Good luck! Keep your head up, your music rocking and go

I had the same issue-did W5d2 for a couple weeks before I ever attempted day 3. Decided to just try it on a whim and bam-I did it. I was slow as molasses but I did it! You'd be amazed what your body is capable of. And if it doesn't work out, who cares? Try again. You'll get there!

KellyAnn, thanks! It wasn't hard to accomplish. I've been surprised a bit, when it finished ;-) Now waiting for the next run(d3) ;-)

TiffOTR, Good luck! I'll try the same thing(d3) on friday ;-)

Just did it! ;-) I've also missed finishing command, so I've done 33minutes instead of 20 %-) I've stopped running almost near my home.. Now it sounds almost unbelievable, but it was really cool!

I'm am about to dive into week 5 as well. Everything so far has been time based. Just curious are Yall using the time

Method or are you going by the mileage? This app only tells you time and my Fitbit app tells mileage but what if you don't make it in the allotted time? Do you keep running or stop? I'm imagining I will be repeating this week but just curious how other people have done this time/miles thing.

Andy, I've never accidentally ran a 5k! That's awesome! Congrats!

What app is that you're using? I could use something with voice that tells how far I have gone. It's hard to look at my phone on my arm while running... Talk about accident. I'll run into a tree!!

Way to go Andy! @RDierks, I run time-based for now. I will work on increasing speed (and distance) after I've built up some endurance :-) A couple times, I've ran longer than the app said... But I'm trying really hard to pace myself and not develop any injuries. I don't want any set backs!!!

Original Poster here....Well I did it. After my 3rd attempt I ran for 20 minutes without stopping. It feels great. It took me 4 times to get past W1D1 back in May. If someone told me that on August 1st I could run for 20 minutes without stopping I would have thought they were crazy. One thing that I did today that worked for me was the first 15-16 minutes I listened to an audio book that I am really enjoying (10% Happier). It seemed to help me really focus on that and the last few minutes had to play some Dubstep. Just keep trying and you will get there. Now on to week 6!

I will be attempting this in the next day or 2. I don't know, it seems like quite a jump but I will try. I keep telling myself "I just lapped that guy sitting on the couch" haha. Whatever it takes, right?!
