Guest Samantha
I tried running once a few weeks ago and some guys drove by and yelled really nasty things at me. I'm nervous that if I go to a gym, people would judge me for trying to get in shape. How do I get past this feeling?
Guest Julie
I was once the same but now more people encourage me , just remember they are jealous that you made the effort ,,,
farmgirl
Samantha I really hate to read that some guys yelled nastiness at you while you were running. Remember that just like the will to run, this self-consciousness is all in your head and you CAN control it. It's hard, I know because I've been there but you can do this! The hardest part is making the decision and the commitment to get in shape for you and the only opinion that matters is yours. God Bless you in your journey
Guest Samantha
Thank you both for your encouraging words! I'm excited to say I started running today at the gym. It was really awesome because I was literally the only one in there. I'm shocked how quickly the 30 minutes went by and how much I actually enjoyed it. I can't wait to get farther in this. :-)
justcallmemac
Great stuff! Keep it up! Don't worry what others say or think, you have no control over that. What you can control is you and it sounds like you are doing a great job of that, by taking these first steps:-) Melanie86 and Samantha
Guest Lucy020679
Don't let others put you off. I am obese and I did C25k 18 months ago for Race for Life. You will get the odd comment from stupid people but you get respect from other runners. I did the same route 3 times a week (it's flat

jvincent78
Don't let others put you off. I am obese and I did C25k 18 months ago for Race for Life. You will get the odd comment from stupid people but you get respect from other runners. I did the same route 3 times a week (it's flat) and I found the rude ones are not normally regular people on my route, but found other runners/jiggers saying hello, smiling or just nodding their head in acknowledgment! Persevere and have fun. I want to start again and I will! I've noticed this same thing about runners...they generally tend to be encouraging. I'm blessed to have a forest preserve right behind my house and I can jump right on the trails and it's generally pretty private.
