Road block - despite 200% effort

I have tried this countless times and I always fail. I can't ever get through week 5. I'm there again, and I'm stuck. I really really want this, and am giving 200%, but am failing. Week 4 is a huge challenge, and then the steep jump in week 5 does me in. I'm open to all help, ideas, suggestions. I want so bad to successfully complete a 5k, for so many reasons.

Hi There DogNurse,       YOU ARE absolutely not failing out there.  Ya made it to Week 5 and that is AWESOME!!!   Super cool!   Is this the 5k app?  I think that is the week that a few get stuck on...  Keep at it, maybe do some interval training, speed work, strength training.  I am curious to see what anyone else does and posts...  HUgs to you, YOU CAN DO IT!

What a lot of people do when they feel they are struggling is to repeat the last week until they feel they can conquer it. It might help you to redo week 4 once or even twice until it's no longer such a challenge. Then move on to week 5. Also, KellyAnn's suggestion to cross train is a great idea. You need to get those other muscles at top form in order for the whole body to work well together.

 

Good luck and keep up the enthusiasm! If you want it bad enough you will find a way to do it :)

I agree with Azatol. I just turned the music up and even tried to sing along and forget I was running! My added piece of advice - go slow. It doesn't matter how far you go it's about getting to the end. I was running at little more than a jiggley walk the first time. But when I got to the end I grew in confidence. You can do this, just do it at what ever pace it takes. Part way through I had to talk to myself. I would be saying lift your legs, breathe, you can do it, breathe. Sometimes I would listen to my breath and say Oooh on the way in and aah on the way out. Then go back to my music. You can do it!!!

Maybe your running too fast. Try going slow. Don't give up. You can do this. You need to tell yourself that while your doing it. Maybe run until your about to die and even if the app hasn't said start walking walk anyway. Then complete week 5 and do it again walk only when you have to repeat week 5 until you run all the prompts. Just don't give up.
