diamond808
I am blessed that I found this site! I've always wanted to become a runner but I had a hard time getting myself to just "DO IT". I will be starting my Week 1 on Monday. I have been going to the gym for about a couple of months now. But did not have a plan, just working out on the Elliptical for 30 mins then the treadmill for another 30 minutes 3x a week. But my ultimate goal is to start running and the do a 5K...yay. Slow and at a pace that I can handle for now, but ecxited to start on Monday!!! Any comments greatly appreciated!!
sdbeachgirl
Welcome to the community! Great group of very supportive and encouraging folks Best of luck to you on your first day Monday! Consider some strength training on your non-running days Even if it's something simple like doing some pushups, etc. It will help you get stronger and work your other muscles that you don't necessarily use for running. diamond808
ALOHA!! i have started off and I am still on week 2. For me it's the "BREATHING" I cant seem to get it where I am not gasping for air. I am praying I can move forward with this plan. any suggestions on my breathing?? Yes, I am on the beautiful island of Oahu. There are many places for me to run, but right now I am trying it out on the treadmill first. I am excited that I am at least up to week 2. Aloha for now and mahalo for your comments! :-)
KellyAnn
Hi there Diamond. Have you tried some breathing exercises??? I set an alarm in my phone for 3 times a day and try and breathe in and out deeply. Most of us don't fill our lungs to capacity. Also, just checking , but sometimes people hold their breath while working out and not knowing it and then breathe fast. Make sure you do breathe in and out and deeply. Keep me posted. Hugs. Aloha!! Augy
Aloha Diamond. I have fond memories of running in different places on oahu. (30+ years ago). I've set a goal to treat myself to come back to visit, and run a 10K race, when I reach that point in my training.. It'll be a while, as I'm on week 2 of the 5k, but that is one of the carrots I'm dangling for myself. Welcome aboard from another newbie.... we GOT THIS! Guest TrishE
Breathing exercises are a great way to strengthen your lungs, like kelly said! Try also timing your breaths with your footfalls. You should sound like a running beat, everything in time and even. That way itll become second nature to you soon. Good luck! Im sure Oahu is beautiful. I am running in the cold and windy not so scenic mid west small town haha its where my running started though so I cant complain.
