Teena
Wow...its been about 5 1/2 years since I last attempted to run. I wanted to die at about minute 16 and every time the girls voice came on and said "start running" I wanted to scream...but I DID IT. The last minute was about torture and my 11 year old son ran with me cheering me on. It was a great accomplishment. My body is pretty sore but otherwise I feel good. But heres a little about myself: I am 32 years old and a single mother. I was in the Air Force for 8 years and would run about 14 miles a week...I always did much better with long distance running versus running fast so I struggled with the pt test. I've been out of the Air Force for 5 years, went to college, became a paralegal and gained probably over 50 pounds. I was 160 when I left the Air Force and the last time I got on a scale 6 months ago I was 220. This past Monday, my son said that he wanted to go for a run, he is 11 and a baseball player and he wants to start running as he gets back into the season. So he ran...I walked and watched him and I decided that I wanted to start running again too. So I went home and downloaded the C25KFree App and did my first day last night. I am praying that I continue through this program because my son and I now committed each other to running a 5K together in 3 months or so. Good luck! I hope we can all encourage each other on this journey. Happy Running!! TheRoseWithin~Shannon
KellyAnn
Oh wow. First Welcome here. Second, YOU DID IT!!! Yes you did. I am totally impressed. Doesn't it feel great? I think it's awesome that your son wanted to run and then you downloaded to app to run too. I love it. You made my day today when I saw this. Third - Thank you for serving our country. My Dad and Hubby are retired AF, and my son is a Marine. I can't wait to watch your Journey with your son. We have an Accountability 2015 Board you can make your Journal and post their too if you would like. Everyone is so supportive here and so encouraging. We are all here cheering you on. So proud of you, keep it up. Yay. TheRoseWithin~Shannon and Teena

TheRoseWithin~Shannon
Ditto - thank you so much for your service! Ditto again - loved reading how your son motivated and inspired you! And thank you for trusting perfect strangers with sharing deeply personal information about weight. I have seen many share here about weight. Now, perhaps it is only me, yet in my opinion that requires a great deal of courage for women (and possibly some men). Bravo! Lastly, C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s on day 1 Teena! WayHAY to go siSTAR! I am looking forward to learning more about you and hearing about your C25K progress! You can do this! First for yourself, and definitely because your son inspires you to be your best you!!! CHEERS! KellyAnn
Teena
Aww thank you all so much for the warm welcome. I am very inspired to make this work and to get back into the habit of making running part of my life again. I know that loosing weight will help my running feel more natural but I am so scared to get on a scale to see what exactly my number is. Guest TrishE
I dont go any where near the scale if I dont have to. Some people feel that weighing yourself helps others dont. For me its just discouraging. I dont want to sound cheesy but I think people are so much more than that number. The important thing is a healthy body not a skinny one. I get that that is easy said than thought haha I struggle with that daily. Which leads back to the point of why I shun the scale like its diseased haha as long as I can ignore the number I can remember Im healthy. Teena
No worries TrishE! I have a love/hate relationship with the scale...currently we hate each other but I think that it will change once I get my groove back and start running again for enjoyment. I really hope that happens soon. However, I also need to get my eating back in check in order to start seeing any gains in my overall health. I'm a big mess...but I am here so thats a good thing. KellyAnn
Never be sorry TrishE. Love how everyone helps each other in here. It's great. Teena. Put away that scale. Only weight once or twice a month. Everyday our weight fluctuates. When my clothes are really loose, the I will weigh myself. Try the Paleo way. Best way to eat ever. This morning will be poached eggs and ham. And maybe. A grapefruit. You can do it. TheRoseWithin~Shannon
Teena
I dont even own a scale Kelly...its amazing. I will probably hop on one this weekend to just get a starting point but after that I wont be a frequent checker. It is too hard to deal with the let downs. I am ok with once monthly. I dont know anything about Paleo...but I will check into it for sure. Right now my plan is to stay out of the drive thru, cook meals at home and drink loads and loads of water. But I will certainly be looking into other options. Thanks everyone!!!
Guest TrishE
Good plan. The best idea is keep it simple in the beginning then when youre comfortable try out other things. Im pretty sure I ate the same things for like three months when I first started being healthy. Fruits Veggies grilled chicken brown rice and eggs. Plus tons of water, Pretty sure I drink over a gallon total a day i havent counted in awhile
KellyAnn
Oh ha ha Teena. I swear I saw that someone bought a scale. Oops I love love the Paleo way. Great books out there. To me it's just eating healthy. I throw in carbs here and there. Quinoa and brown rice, whole wheat pasta, wheat bread. Very minimal though. Good luck. Azatol
Heh. I weight myself every single day. I have a FitBit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale. It measures my weight, body fat % and BMI and uploads it to my Fitbit dashboard(same one my steps and stats go to). I'm a nerd so I love having all that data. The trick I had to learn is to ignore my weight on the scale. I view it on a graph over time and measure trends ( Is the line going up or down ). Teena
Maybe later on down the line I will weigh myself more frequently but for now I'm not in a rush to see my number on a scale. I have heard great things about the Fit Bit and Jawbone...I would love one just to track my steps throughout the day that would be fun and to be able to connect with other people for "competitions". I did Week 1 Day 2 last night and that was brutal...I don't know if it was because I just ate dinner but my calves were killing me the entire time I was running. I am probably going to repeat this week before moving on to week 2...I'm feeling very confident but don't want to go to quickly. Oh...currently I do my runs around the lake at my apartment complex...its a soft dirt trail for the most part but there are a few twisty turns that have some bumps and tree roots that I have to dodge. I think these things may be slowing me down or distracting me along the way. Should I try just doing my runs on the road instead of around the trail??? bekkstar666
I got a garmin band for christmas which is really good...it has a digital display which shows steps, goal, milage and calories. It also has time and date on. The thing i like about it though is the red lines that show how inactive i have been!!! Certainly gets me up and moving!
