  1. As I always tell my son - he is the boss of his brain and not the other way around :-). Looks like I am going to have to walk the walk.

  2. Hello everybody my name is Peter I started C25k five weeks ago after going for health checkup and being told my blood pressure was high and I was 6 1/2 stone overweight. My gammy leg is from cerebral palsy with makes me uncoordinated and weaker on my right side. I avoided sports at school I was hopeless at everything and got teased relentlessly so just avoided it. I'm 47 1/2 years old. My blood pressure was 170/120 Week one, sixty seconds of running? Day 1 couldn't do it. Day two and day 3 could just do it with occasional few seconds of walking. Week two, 90 seconds of running. Yes I could. Week three, 3 whole minutes of running no way I will be able to do that. Well yes I could if I ran very very slowly. I'm thinking if I'm moving I'm improving. Week four, day one today. No way no way no way will I manage 5 mins of running with only short breaks. I put it off for a couple of hours and went out feeling I was about to fail... Well I did it very very very slowly but I definitely kept moving and didn't walk any of the runs.so I'm pleased. Looking forward to the rest of the runs this week. I'm posting here to keep a diary for myself and also to encourage others. If I can , you can.

  3. I've had to take breaks, but I'm still at it. Breathing is better knees are better but need to space out the runs more than every other day. some hip pain yesterday but I can see getting through week one in the near future. I found knee exercises on this website: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/knee-exercises.aspx Turning off the brain that wants to quit is the main key for me. 1 foot in front of the other, listening to your body and enjoy the view works best.

If you want to check your GPS, use this site to map out your run and compare. The lines follow the road curves and make for very accurate routes(and will do an out and back). I use it to plan my runs. No promises it works outside of US roads. never tried. http://onthegomap.com/#/create

  6. As expected, since I planned my shoe shopping for yesterday - it didn't happen... life got in the way again... @Sean - I have heard great things about asics but am goings to take Azatol's advice on this and go by how the shoes feel on my feet. Anyway - I ran W5D2 today - and it was as easy as pie. Week 5 seems to be much easier for me than week 4 was. It was a bit of a chaotic run because I went running with my running friend and her 10 year old son who joined us at the end of the first 8 minutes, so instead of the walk being a brisk walk, it was more of a dawdle than anything else...then one of the neighbors' dogs joined us and the app stopped working just after it announced one more minute. Once we were done I was neither tired nor satisfied so I did another 8 minute run or so (I am assuming it was 8 minutes because it was the same distance as the other two runs...) I could have kept going but didn't want to push my luck... I am only slightly concerned about the 20 minute run - and hope I will be as pleasantly surprised as I was today.

  7. Well, I went for it and didn't QUITE make it but tried to make up for it... I set up for W9D1 (4x10-minute jogs, 1-minute walks). Too many things barking at me in the 4th interval so I took a break, walked a few minutes and resumed. Altogether I did about 6km in the intervals, totalling 7.7km with the warmup, cooldown and the extra break in the middle. I know everything I did wrong. Ran too early after eating a sandwich (was trying, successfully, to beat the incoming rain), didn't drink enough water during the day and wasn't exactly eating the right things. I was running out of gas, getting a cramp in my side and feeling a little nauseous. I'll be far better prepared on my next attempt Sunday.

As someone who just ran a half marathon when his long run was only up to 8 miles, I've got no business telling you not to do it LOL. Here are the things I considered in running my race..... Am I willing to risk having to walk part of it or stop? Will that ruin the experience of my first half marathon? Am I willing to risk the fact that I'm pushing myself beyond my trained limits and willing to accept the possibility of getting an overuse injury that curtails my running for several weeks? Am I willing to listen to my body and know when to stop if I feel I'm pushing myself to unsafe limits. Willing to accept all the risks? Is the payoff worth the risks? I know for me, without another opportunity to try a half marathon until spring, I felt it was worth the risk. If you are willing to accept those and feel it's worth the risk, DO IT! I wont say do or do not

  9. Find a sports bra that individually cups, but also compresses your girls. I tried the old navy ones and all they offer is compression. I am currently in love with the Norwalk Tank from Fabletics which not o my offers removable cups, but also had mega compression and is disguised as a tank top-awesome for running!!
