Qceus
I am 45 and a new runner, 30 lbs over weight and really out of shape. On week 1 day 2, after my run, I battled to stay awake all day. A few days later I ended up sick - sore throat, cough, laryngitis so I thought I was tired because I was getting sick. I kept going and while often tired did not experience that level of fatigue again until today. I have done fairly well. Week 2 went well although I was definitely struggling at the end of each run. I did an extra day of week two because I was still battling being sick and didn't think I should move up yet. I started week 3 on Tuesday and did it - but those 3 minute runs were killer. I did day 2 today and it was pretty much the same. But by lunchtime (I run at 6:45) I was done. I slept most of the afternoon and have been a zombie all evening. I just want to sleep. I am eating fine. I eat half a banana before I run and then finish it after. I am drinking plenty of water. I did some research on-line and have seen that sometimes over training can lead to after run fatigue. Could this be the problem? Should I have stayed with week 2 longer? Anyone else have this problem? I love running and am excited that I am making this a habit now but I can't afford to sleep away my workday and my kids need me to be awake. :-) Any thoughts appreciated! Anne Lang
are you getting up earlier to fit the run in. Are you eating enough carbs and protiens. Have you had your iron levels tested. Some times after a long walk or a hard run this happens to me. It depends where i am in my cycle and how well i slept the night befor
Rob129
You should consider seeing a doctor & getting checked out. My experience has been different during the first several weeks. I run at 4 to 5 in the morning, shower, walk the dog & get the kids to daycare. Even on those days I felt absolutely awake and with better mental clarity than when I was a couch potato. It could be over training or something else. Anne Lang

Azatol
I really don't care for the idea of people giving advice in this kind of area until you've spoken to your general practitioner(Thus I will not). Make sure you don't have a real health issue before we look at basic stuff like diet and sleep. Running is a contact sport and really needs your doctors support to know you can semi safely do it. Papillon
I have experienced the same thing. I think afternoon fatigue is common especiallyif you work hard earlier in the day (or in the evening) . I hate it though. You have to get in touch with your body and learn when to post pone running for more recovery and when not to. Generally eating well will also minimise it as well as just getting fitter. . I know you're trying to lose weight but I don't believe it's right to avoid carbs if you want to do cardio/ get fit. But there are lots of different ideas about diet so you'll have to figure that out. Half a banana isn't enough.
