CatLover74
Just stumbled on this the other day. I'm supremely unfit, and thought there was no way I could jog for anywhere near a minute without passing out or spontaneously combusting. I decided to give it a go anyway, because I'll be 41 next Tuesday, and if I don't do something soon, it won't be long before I reached the point that I couldn't even walk around after my 15 month old daughter.Headed out Monday morning for the first time, and somehow I got through it. I tried to go as slow as I could while still continuing to move. My breathing was fine, but I had to stop for a minute 2 or 3 times to rest because my calves and shins were so sore. I got the workout completed in the end though.Onwards and upwards from here. Went out and got professionally fitted for some road running shoes yesterday; so hopefully that and stretching more will help the calf and shin issue. Guest TrishE
Welcome! Running is tough on the body. Dont be afraid to enjoy a hot bath with epsom salts once in awhile. Ibuprofen and icy hot were my best friends when I started. Good luck
CatLover74
I would do, but we don't have a bath in our small flat, only a shower. I recovered pretty quickly after a brief rest stop each time the pain started; and didn't seem to have any after effects when I finished the workout or the next day. Heading out for Day 2 this morning (Wednesday here in Australia).
Natcatvet
How is your journey going? I've just started and I'm older and unfitter than you. I'm also in Australia . Give me an indication of how much harder it gets ! (Just finished week 1 day 3)
KellyAnn
You all got this!!! Love hearing from you!
Jeshi
CatLover74, did the shoes help with your calf and shin pain? I find rolling them out helps (although I'll admit it's difficult to do being big). Make sure to stretch AFTER you warm up. I tried doing that cold and ended up in pain before realizing what I was doing.
KellyAnn
Hey Jeshi, Nice to see you here and helping too. YEAH, YOU NEVER EVER EVER stretch COLD muscles. Bad idea! Popping muscles is so no fun, been there, done that!!!
