Running in heat

Recommended Posts

So I live where it easily gets to 100 degrees and I've been wanting to run in the daytime because my neighborhood is kind of sketchy, but it gets too hot and I can't run for long. I need to keep going because I am training for a 5k that is during the summer. Anyone have any tips for me?

Hi there to you and Welcome,

Can you go early in the morning before it gets tooo hot??????? If your neighborhood is sketchy, is it scary to run outdoors??? Can you go to a gym or YMCA to run??? Or on a treadmill indoors??? Anything to help you achieve your goals, we are here for you. Good luck.

The hottest I've run in is 95 with a heat index of 107 with humidity. The only time i could run was 2-3pm when my toddler napped. My advice give up on increasing your time. Go slow! Keep a water bottle either with you or somewhere you can circle back to it. Where a hat, light loose clothing, wear sunscreen and dont be afraid to douse yourself in water haha it may look silly but it feels great.

Thank you! I did think about going in the morning but I don't like to wake up that early because by 8:00 it is already in the 90s. I never even thought about placing a water bottle somewhere I can loop back to that's a great idea and I will use it and I have been using sunscreen every day too.
