Timb113
For me, this is easy in almost every aspect of life, but i found that part of my problem when I got to the longer distances of running was my brain got in the way. I has always gone the same route through my neighborhood, and after doing the 20-minute run, I knew where i finished the run portion. Later, when the time increased, once I got to that spot where I finished the 20-minute run my brain thought I should be done. I was on vacation for the next week, and was able to run easily past 20 minutes, came back home and had the same problem when I hit 20 minutes. I've started adjusting my route so that my brain does not know where I'm supposed to start walking. It may just be me, but it's made a huge difference now that I'm going farther distances. Hopefully it will help someone else out there.
jvincent78
That is interesting. Our yard backs right up to the forest preserve trails so I can jump right on and go. I probably should vary my route more, but it just so happens that there's a loop that is 6.2 miles round trip from where I jump on. So now that I've been doing the 10K trainer, I tend to go that direction all the time. When I ran my first 5K, I forgot my headphones and couldn't hear the MapMyRun on my phone, so I had no clue how far along I was. For me, mentally that's a killer! KellyAnn
That's great. You are an inspiration. Our house also backs up to forest service and I can't hike now because of snakes, but now that the weather is getting cooler, I can. Yay. I love it. Great mountain trails. Uphill, downhill. Love it
Guest Emily
Also try cul de sacs if your neighborhood has any... That has helped my brain mentally get past the block... I have 3 at varying lengths so I try to mix it up.
