Is this progress?

I realize that one of the ten commandments of running is that you should never compare yourself to other runners.  However... I feel compelled to seek advice.  I just today completed Week 1 Day 3 (WOOT!!) and made it 2.2 miles in 30 minutes.  I am pretty psyched about this since just a couple of weeks ago before starting C25K I could barely walk a mile.  I'm a big girl and recently quit smoking so no matter what anyone says, I will not lose my excitement about my progress but I would love to hear from others about where you started?  I will be repeating week 1 this week because I just don't feel that I'm ready to move up but I think that it would be very motivating to hear from others who have been in the same boat.  Happy Running!

Congratulations to you for your accomplishment!  :) You have every right to be proud of yourself.  I just completed my first 5K this past weekend.  I started my training back in Jun.  Several times I repeated a week.  Nothing wrong with that at all in my book.  Just keep training and I know you will get there!

The fact that you are starting the program and sticking with it is an accomplishment. Your distance and speed at this point doesn't matter. You have the rest of your life to get faster. Keep working your doing great

Congratulations to you!!   :) I understand what you are saying about not comparing yourself to other runners..  I "run" very slowly and feel my speed should be so much better.  However, my husband continually tells me - "at least you are doing it; doesn't matter the speed!".  Keep up the good work and don't feel bad about repeating a week if you have to!  I started week 5 yesterday and probably will be on this one for a while to build up my endurance.

Thank you Momof4 and congrats on starting Week 5!  I love how much support there is in this forum.  It's so easy to be afraid of a hurdle and it's supportive people such as yourself that really help others to see that it is possible :)

And my husband keeps telling me that I'm running circles around everyone that's on their couch!

If you go to the parkrun website (use Google) they have a link to an age related calculator. You can also compare yourself to the 70k) It's a free 5k (3m) timed run that happens every Saturday at 9am - started in the UK, but there are worldwide park runs
