Never run on pavement

Welcome welcome! Congrats on all your healthy choices and weightloss. Those are great steps in a healthy lifestyle.

The only advice I would have on switching from treadmill to road is to take it slow at first. Your body is going to have to get used to the change because it is a big difference. Also make sure you have a good pair of shoes that can cushion your feet because pavement is very unforgiving.

Good luck on your switch over and I hope you keep us posted on your progress!

Trish, thank you so much for responding! I started today and I had an awesome start. My husband and my 2 kids committed to training with me and we all ran with our Westie this morn! It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be to run on pavement. Actually it felt great! I'm having a little knee pain which I'm icing and can't wait to do day 2. Woohoo!

Hey PRQueen, welcome here on our forums. Happy you are beginning. So many people here cheering you on. Yes!!!!! I live down a 3 mile dirt road am di don't kniw why you would run in dirt or grass first??? I've never heard of that. Hmmm. I'd like to know the background of that???? It is softer. But...... Fill me in.

Anyways. Good luck you two. You can do it. Go for it.

Prqueen I actually have friends that run cross country for school, and they actually told me that running on pavement is better for your ankles. If you don't have grip on the grass or gravel/dirt, you have a better chance of rolling your ankles and getting hurt. This is the whole reason why I run on pavement, and it works for me, but find what works best for you

Hi all! I just wanted to update you on my progress on pavement. I'm on week 6 day 2 and I feel great! I'm loving the running on pavement with my hubby at 5:00 in the morning. We registered for a 5k on April 18th. I'm so eager to reach my goal! I have an old knee injury that acts up every now and again. I Ice it and get my day of rest and it's been fine. I've lost 10 lbs and have a healthy BMI. Feeling like a million bucks. Thanks for all your support
