tnl69953
I am 48, fat and needless to say, out of shape! My daughter just made a serious drum corps and has to run a 5k every Sunday. She challenged me to run a 5k in May and laughed when I took her up on it. I started the C25K program this week but will only run at night when nobody is watching. I have recruited my youngest daughter who is in middle school to run with me. I am so worried I will blow out a knee. I've had my knee scoped 2 years ago and definitely "feel" that this is stressing it. BUT -my plan is to finish that 5K. I won't finish first, but I plan to finish. Guest TrishE
Welcome welcome! Congrats on starting your new journey and setting such a great goal for yourself. About your knee, if things start to feel worse about it I suggest seeing your doctor and asking for advice on how best to exercise on it. It would be awful if you pushed it and injure it to the point where you cant run on it at all! Listen to your body and good luck!!
TheRoseWithin~Shannon
Tnl69953, I promise you, as you stay with this, your fear that folks may be watching you, will wane. You will be less concerned with who is watching you or what others might be thinking, and instead enjoy the fact that you are experiencing, (your daughter will notice too) life-affirming change within and without - in the broadest of senses - physically, mentally and emotionally. About your knee, I'm experiencing issues with my knees as well. You know your body best. Trust your instincts. I love your pratical and determined declaration: "I won't finish first, but I plan to finish!" Right on!!! I cannot wait to hear more ... please keep us posted in regards to your knee and runs! With you from far away, yet so near in heart! Cheers!
tnl69953
Thanks guys - just did week 1, day 3 - have to go slow because of all the ice and snow here. I think I will throw an extra day of a week 1 workout in before moving on to week 2. Shins don't hurt as bad as they did earlier this week!!
