Guest TrishE
Interruptions are the worst. Its so terrifying the first time it happens because you don't want to lose all progress you made. Just concentrate on getting better and when you are just start where you left off. If its too much because your body is recovering don't worry just work your way back by repeating until you can. Don't be hard on yourself your body will bounce back and youll be right back on track. I hope you feel better soon!
Redrunner
Thank you for the best wishes, pdedwards. I will take your suggestion and start back at the level I was on and see what happens, It is all subjective how our body reacts to these interruptions, It is just as you stated you do not want to lose all the progress you made just this measly flu.Ha! KellyAnn
Oh RedRunner, I sooooo hate being sidelined with illness, injuries, etc... grrrrrrrr... Its annoying for sure. it will take you a few weeks after to get back up to speed, but it depends on if you have junk in your lungs too. Then it might take longer. I love love EmergenC, that is a miracle. Try that too. FEEL BETTER! HUGS! TheRoseWithin~Shannon
Timb113
Redrunner, You've worked hard for six weeks to get to the fitness level that you are, one week will not set you back as far as you think. I think you'll be surprised how quick you'll be able to bounce back!
Azatol
I'd say it also depends how long you're out of comission. Every time I get injured in the gym Im asraid of losing what little muscle I've built up. If it's under 2 weeks I usually do one set of lighter weights and am then able to go right where I left off. If you can manage to do 10 bodyweight squats and 10 lunges every day or two ( I know that sucks when you're sick ), that should go most of the way in preventing muscle atrophy in your legs. I'd also consider planks for your core. Maybe 3x15 or 30 seconds. Whatever you can do. Rest 1.5-2 mins between each one. I know those little exercises are miserable when you're under the weather but igf you want to protect what you've worked so hard for, you just need to push a tiny bit more. As always, this was NOT the advice of a personal trainer or medical professional. Just a guy at the age where he injures a lot in the gym and heals really slowly. Redrunner
Thanks guys,Keep them coming your comments are encouraging and supportive.it is so cold I wonder that if I would've gone out yesterday or today. It was so cold out it was in the feels like -eighties in last night.back to the topic of unfortunate interruptions to our goal of running. After having a car accident and completely displacing the left femoral head in the left hip.Have to had two surgeries due to complications. After five years of bing immobilized and complete muscle loss I started to make serious effort at least to get were I was before the accident. In the past six week I have heavy capital invested in running 5K,pain,effort and sweat.when I got this cold it totally devastated me in regards how far it will set me back it brought back the struggles I had with myself biggest one was the urge to stop running due to effort, pain, breathing, distance, speed and the energy, after all the struggle I was able to run for twenty minutes.it was great and I cold see myself doing the 5k eventually.but with this cold that feeling is not there.instead I had fear how big of setback it will be,if I would be able to pick up where I left off. I know how we deal with setbacks is very subjective and personal. But I will do some breathing exercise and planks and drink lots of fluids.I hope to start where I left off. I think I ramble too much but maybe it will be of assistance to someone.

TheRoseWithin~Shannon
I concur with Trish, Redrunner, look what you have achieved so far - one minute counts as a success ... you ran 20 minutes - in spite of the pain, sweat, cold, difficulty in breathing, distance and speed! Your energy exerted will continue to expand your lungs and strengthen your body in the broadest of senses (I hope your hip especially). Good on you! Focus on the 'great feelings' you have afterwards! Let those feelings carry you on! If I may encourage you - celebrate each and every minute you continue to achieve - inside or outside, walking or running with absolute passion. No one is telling you that you have to run a 5k in 8weeks - not even the C25K app does that - it is a tool only; a guideline. USE IT! "Progress not perfection". Each time you experience a discouraged state of mind, do your best to practice having the exact opposite thought (less self-judgment, more self-discernment). And by all means, please jump in here and let us know. I for one look forward to hearing how everything you have invested ends up transforming your body, heart, mind and spirit - in spite of and because of a debilitating accident. Redrunner, this may or may not be helpful, it is the same kind of encouragement I give to myself, hope it helps! With you from afar, yet near in heart! You can do this! One step; one breath at a time.
