Week 5 day 3

On my first week, I found it hard to run for 1 whole min continuously, I could do it but it was tough for me - even just one min. I looked ahead through what I would have to do each week and saw that in week 5 day 3 I should run for 20 mins continuously. I almost gave up right there knowing that would be impossible, but I decided to just see how far I could go. So each week I got a little better and then yesterday I laced up my shoes and actually felt really nervous because I knew that part of me was actually hoping I could do it, and was dreading how disappointed I was going to feel.

Ok well I didn't manage to run continuously for 20 mins, BUT I did run for 13 mins before I looked down and saw on my HRM that my bmp was too high, and so I walked for 30 seconds, then started running again, I did need another 30 second walk before I finished, but by the end I had run 2.1 miles in 23mins and I did not feel disappointed.

In fact I am amazed!!

Outstanding! I am only on week two. Like you, I scrolled ahead because day 1 that 1 min was not pretty. Today, I struggled a 5mi/hr 90 sec run BUT I did it and even wanted to run more! I went to TJMaxx last night and got new running shoes and cold weather running attaire. I am also doing T25 workouts and am through 6 weeks there. What a transformation. I love it. I now feel like I can say I run. Keep it up and keep us posted. My 5k is 12/14 so I am accelerating the workouts but still taking a day for rest.

I started the 20 min run yesterday got 1/2 way done and stopped not because I could not keep going physically but mentally. So I kept walking and by the time the cool down ended I had some great self talk and stared over and finished the 20 minute run. I am pretty sure my neighbor laughed at me as I ran home smiling and jumping up and down. I was so proud of myself! First time I can remember running 20 minutes without stopping!

Congrats to everyone, it is awesome to hear from others who are doing this too!

Quick update: Yesterday I did Week 6 Day 3, the one that says to run for 22 mins. I ran it more slowly to be careful to keep my heart rate and breathing under control because I wanted to see if I could do the whole 22 mins without having to walk at all this time.  I RAN the whole 22 mins without walking once, and when I got to 22 mins I saw that I wasn't quite up to 2 miles yet so I carried on for 2 more mins and hit my 2 mile mark. My breathing was the hardest part, my throat hurt and it felt hard to get breaths deep enough to fill my lungs, that is why I chose to run slowly, but it got a lot better after the first 10 mins my throat stopped hurting, not sure why, but I will be doing some reading up on that.

I'm not planning to try to run any further than 3k, but I want to work on upping my speed gradually as I get stronger, and I plan to keep running 3k every other day pretty much for the rest of my life, or as long as I can.

If anyone had told me 6 weeks ago that I would run 2 miles without any walking I would have thought they were just being ridiculous, but I did it. I am 49 and have not run since I was at high school. Bring on week 7!!!

just completed week 5 day 3. Was planning on skipping it, but after reading all the comments here I attempted it today. It's truly all in your mind. Once I got into my rhythm I was able to keep going. It's not as daunting as it seems. Go ahead and try it!!

Amanda, you gave me goosebumbs!!!   You are an exemplar of pressing on - in spite of and because of!!

Honestly, I had to giggle while reading as I could so relate to what you were feeling - been there done that, and still do that on occasion. LOL  In the past especially, I would fret and worry about step 10 long before accomplishing step 1 OR I'd worry about how I would feel AFTER, before even beginning or completing.   LOL  So silly of me.   In your case, you were worried about how you would feel (dissapointment) before you had even begun or finished.  Nevertheless, you persevered - in spite of and because of your fear of what you 'might' experience - and achieved success!  I sure feel good about what YOU achieved and have continued to achieve!  Definitely!  Thank you Amanda!  WayHAY to go siSTAR!   :D

Congrats to everyone else too!   Energized after reading these posts!  CHEERS!
