Women's Issue: Help, ladies!

If any of you experience heavy periods, do you find that it affects your training? I get back pain so bad that sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out. And I tend to believe pretty heavily for about seven days. That's way too long to just skip training all together. But I'm concerned that if I'm running on a heavy day that I might get really woozy and even pass out. Does anyone else to deal with this? If so, how do you handle it?

I too, have a heavy flow and very bad menstrual pain.  I just started the C25K program two weeks ago, got injured, need to rest my knee for 2 weeks and get back on it!

I was under the impression that working out will help reduce menstrual pain and perhaps even lighten periods (which is a reason why I just started this).

When I do get my period, I was planning on taking some sort of pain medication before running.  I would also take a breather if I felt light headed and stay close to home.  Haven't had to deal with it yet..but I hope this plan works!

Wish you the best of luck!!!

I'm quite heavy as well and get really bad cramps, and I'm definitely a believer in how exercise does help reduce the cramping. BUT, with your back pain being the reason of you feeling like you are going to pass out, I don't think I would push working out during. If it was just cramping, I would say yes, but with back pain so severe, I'm thinking the extra strain may make your back feel worse.

I know I'm late to the party, but if you're getting woozy during your period, have you ever considered taking an iron supplement? Ask your doctor, of course. Also, I recently learned that raspberry leaf tea is supposed to help with the symptoms of periods. Of course, if it were me I'd just skip the whole week, but then, that's my dedication for you.

it is better not to run if you tend to bleed a lot,  please talk to your doctor first if your flow is normal, i would suggest restorative yoga, mild stretches during the week of periods, this will stretch you out, relax you and give you more energy for the following week. Ideally in yogic science doing anything heavy duty during periods is taboo as it puts too much pressure on the uterus!

thanks
