I just downloaded the c25k app by recommendation of a friend but, oh boy, I am nervous! I've never liked running and I am significantly over weight right now (about 80pounds). Any tips/advice/motivation anyone has is greatly appreciated!

Have any of you been in a similar starting point? If so, how did you do it?

Hi There Samisosa,

You can do it.  Start slow, if you cannot run when it tells you too, then don't.  You know your body, if you walk, you walk, no big deal, if you want to repeat days, then do.  You are taking the first step, one in front of the other.  Do not be nervous, Just do it!  We are all here cheering you on!  Keep us posted.

OH honey don't be nervous!  You're doing this for you and only you... no one else to impress, no one else's business unless you want it to be :)  The biggest thing that you need to remember is that you're not alone.  There are tons of us that have started C25K for various reasons and we're all in this together.  Like Kellyb said, Just do it!  I'm going to be honest with you I'm not a big fan of running.  The fact is I pretty much hate life while I'm running... but I have fallen in love with the feeling that I have afterwards, and I'm REALLY loving all of the people that are asking me if I'm losing weight!  Just ease yourself into it, don't be afraid to repeat weeks and push yourself.  You'll be surprised by what your body can do when your mind will let it.  Happy Running!

I was very nervous in the beginning. Especially running in front of others, it made me very insecure. I just finished week 7 day 2 yesterday & was able to push myself to run 30 min straight instead of 25 min. It felt great to be able to accomplish that when only a few short weeks ago I could barely finish a few min straight. I still get nervous every time just before I run. I have to say a little prayer for the strength to finish the run each time. You can do it! Just pace yourself, breathe & don't look at the time remaining. Just run until it tells u to walk. Slow down if u need to but keep running. Make sure to breathe deeply through your nose & out your mouth. If you don't get enough oxygen you won't be able to finish. Oh and one last thing, Stretch before & after. That's extremely important. Good luck!! (P.s. I used to be 90 lbs heavier than I am now, I lost that weight doing other exercises but it's possible just don't give up)

I just completed day 2 and feel very nervous as well. I'm too approxmately 80 pounds overweight. I felt great finishing and hope to stick to the program. I really crave to be able to complete a 5k running nonstop.

Not alone...best wishes!

Hi!

I'm a nervous beginner too, I finished my first week with c25k today and I monitored my results with runtastic: I made 2,8 km (156 kcal) in half an hour. I like the c25k program and, although I'm an overweight couch potato, I don't find it boring or tiring, but still I think my results a arenot as good as I was expecting. What should I improve? The speed maybe? All your suggestions are very welcomed! Thank you! Ju

OMG you guys are awesome!  It's such a wonderful feeling knowing that we're all in this together and seeing this support!  And Ju, don't worry too much yet about your results, right now it's just about getting your body used to moving again.  The distance will increase naturally as your stamina increases.  Sreca keep that positive attitude... it'll get you just as far as your body will!  Happy Running everyone!  :)

Oh don't be nervous! I know starting any new workout program is scary. But you have to try to remember that we all have to start somewhere and the only thing that matters is that you decided to get started! You took that first step that a lot of people are afraid to take and that is AWESOME! Keep going each day. There will be days you might not want to (I have my days!) just know you have a support system here and we will ALWAYS be here to encourage you and motivate you!

I just downloaded today. I've been working with a personal trainer for about 6 weeks and she suggested today that I start Cto5k. Nervous doesn't begin to cover it!! I've lost 15lbs so far but have a goal weight that is still 110lbs away (ouch). Hugs!

I have just downloaded the app. However due to a hip problem (trying to find out what is wrong Drs Drs Drs) I am not allowed to run. So I figure I will to the fast walk until I get the all clear then start the running process. I have never enjoyed running (even when I was really fit) and have been told there is a trick to the way you breath to make you successful. I currently have over 25kg to lose but along with fitness pal I am on my way.

Hi, I just started week 3 today . I was very nervous and actually shaking before I started! Was not looking forward to the jump to the 3 minute run but I managed it. Not sure how I'm going to cope next week or the week after but little steps. I never enjoyed running up until now. Now I enjoy the feeling of doing a little but better than I did last week . . I have lost weight over the last year (51 lb) and now I am finding it a little easier. Not easy, but easier..

Hi Suzy A, yes, fast walk if you need to instead, anny exercise is better thatn none, there are days I will do that too.

Hey Shelley, Great job on Week 3, don't be nervous, this is exciting, when you cannot do a Day, just do it over, you are doing awesome and I am so happy for you. It does become addicting, I sure am hooked. I was sick as a dog last week and was sidelined, so I am back to it this week, yay.

Great job everyone.

I too have had to push myself with every run. I am on week 5 now and have lost about 20 pounds using this app.and myfitnesspal. I am now 7 pounds away from my first goal and only 32 away from my final goal. I think what I love is its not just a number going down on the scale, all of my clothes are getting baggy and everyone is noticing!! Keep up the good work!!!
