Breathing techniques

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but I listen to music while I run. I try to sing along with it, It makes me forget that I'm struggling with breathing. Also, the sound of the music covers up the sound of my gasping for air, LOL. Also, the Breathe Right strips across the nose helped a lot.

I'm not sure if you're looking for something this simple, but I breath in for two foot falls through my nose and breath out for 2 footfalls through my mouth.  Works well for me.

I read an article my UP24 flagged for me on breathing techniques. It noted that when your foot strikes on an exhale more pressure is experienced, so it recommended breathing so that your exhale foot alternates. I breathe in for two footfalls & out for 3. That way it alternates which foot hits on the exhale. Ihope that helps.

I have recently quit smoking and getting control of my breath and working on steady, rhythmic breathing has been a challenge for me but I have found that if I breathe through my nose deeply, in 3 foot falls and out 3 foot falls really works well for me and I feel that my lungs are opening up and I am not getting as tired as quickly.  Also, breathe from your belly.  As a chubby girl it is natural for me to try to suck in my gut and I'm in such a habit of breathing from my chest that this has actually been the most difficult thing to acclimate to.  But when you're breathing so that your belly moves in and out instead of your chest you are breathing more deeply and increasing lung function and volume.  I find that I have to concentrate on my breathing while I walk or run but I'm sure that after a while it will become something that I just do.  I hope this helps and the best wishes to you!

I struggled with breathing too when I started and I found breathing in and out through my nose was best, and in through my nose and out through my mouth was second best. I ran a 5K at the end of July and was fine. My second run post 5K, my legs gave out, so I had to take a bit more than a week off. Now I'm running again and my body is fine but I can't keep my breath, I start breathing through my mouth and then I get tired way faster and have to stop and walk to catch my breath. I think I need to go backwards for a bit and get my lungs back up to strength before I try more long runs.

At firat I was doing nose breathing. But that proved nit to be sufficient for muscle recovery. So I use both nose and mouth to inhale and exhale. Works pretty good. I can go further. I'm now in week 4.

Try slowing down. Get your breathing right and go as fast as your breath takes you! A heart rate monitor is a good tool to use. That way you can see if you are working to hard!

I like to sing the alphabet. I can't remember whether you start with inhale it exhale but it seems to work either way. For example on inhale sing A B C D then exhale E F G inhale H I J K exhale L M N O P etc

I've been focusing on breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth, but also using the diaprhagm instead the shoulders (IE, push your belly out when inhaling). I've found that when I do that consistently, I can go 4 miles without huffing and puffing. My legs and hips might feel like they're going to fall off, but I can breathe!!
